keep in mind tho, that the anniversary of her death was a couple weeks ago, so that might have some to do with the love-in.

Twelve years.

so I'm near ready to pull the trigger on getting "Ultimate Aaliyah," a comp released in the UK. It seems like it has everything you need, cept "Age Ain't Nuthin' But a number," which I would understand if there was a desire to not emphasize. This copy is $35, 2 discs, and no DVD, which I'm not interested in.

Is this what I should go for if I want her shit in one place? That "I care for you" thing is cheaper, but it doesn't have "we need a resolution" or "rock the boat."

I've never bought a CD produced for the Euro market: are there still issues w/ regional coding?

and in case anyone sez "schmuck, you can d/l any song you want": I want to have a physical representation for songs I hold in such high esteem.

CDs have never been region coded

Number None, Wednesday, 29 January 2014 16:19 (ten years ago) link

For $35 you could buy used or maybe even new copies of all three of her studio albums. That would seem the better investment to me. The only thing you'd be missing then is some of the soundtrack contributions, which that compilation does collect nicely, but are easy enough to download at a buck a pop. Feels like at that price point you really could legally own almost her entire discography, not just a selective two disc sampler.

just buy the albums tbh

listening to the self-titled for the first time in many years and it's. . .oh, let's just say a hundred times better than i remembered it. and i remember thinking at the time, "she died after making her best album." untimely death or no, what an amazing album.

I love Aaliyah, but the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this thread get bumped was "Ah! Leah!" by Donnie Iris.

It's her mom & brother - here's a long article about the recent developments. (Hope they get an accounting from the uncle and whatever $ they're entitled to, but this is very welcome news overall.)
