Despite all the bashing here on ILM, looks like the new Daft Punk is getting some serious play

it looks like that is mostly from the vitalic and basement jaxx remixes though.

the leglo (the leglo), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:04 (eighteen years ago) link

Radiohead finally toppled from most popular band.

Charts are depressing atm

Goldfrapp top the ILXor group charts now.

I was surprised to see the New Pornographers dominating the tracks chart so thoroughly.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 00:31 (eighteen years ago) link

Chalk it up to the links to the entire album in downloadable format that popped up a week ago.

We'll listen to anything if it's free...

(Not a snipe at the New Pornographers, just saying.)

do you have to do something with the plug-in here besides download it? like "plug" it into the itunes application folder??? - an idiot.

or maybe it takes awhile for your songs to show up?

Si.C@rter (SiC@rter), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 22:49 (eighteen years ago) link

You have to set it as a start-up item in your user account settings. I'm assuming you're on OS X?

My audioscrobbler currently not updated because my PC is broke and I'm on my (hated) iBook and can't be faffed with that.

fandango (fandango), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:02 (eighteen years ago) link

i'm on a pc. don't you have to tell itunes application to use the plug in somehow? its hard being dumb.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:16 (eighteen years ago) link

hmmm... I've only used it with winamp, but if can you open/click on the plug in .exe?(I'm assuming it's a standalone program, not a script (not on PC anyway) what do you get?

Maybe you need to put your details in there (username/password) before it can register your tunes at the other end?

I couldn't find any faq's on their website, so maybe theres a text file which explains some of this (there is on mac) about, is it a .zip file?

fandango (fandango), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:23 (eighteen years ago) link

oh i think i figured it out. i failed to install somehow (in other words i didnt' realize i had to install anything).

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:25 (eighteen years ago) link

here's mine: http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/tunecave/

i love how nothing is there (yet). i feel very pure.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Oddly, despite saying it doesn't, it *does* register CD's played sometimes - hence weird things like "Mr C & Omid 16 B" appearing in my list so high (a free V/A Mix CD from some music mag... everything on it registered as them).

fandango (fandango), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:33 (eighteen years ago) link

well fuck it. its doesn't fucking work for me. i have the right plug-in but nothing. i'm listening to "short-haired woman's blues" right now and no one knows! i feel ignored.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 7 July 2005 16:25 (eighteen years ago) link

Have you tried searching the Audioscrobbler forums?
Heres the itunes for MAC forum
http://www.audioscrobbler.com/forum/24

Im sure a search there might find something.

FranklinT, Thursday, 7 July 2005 16:33 (eighteen years ago) link

ugh-problem solving. yeah you're probably right. i was just hoping it'd work instantaneously-like magic.

It'll be boring as hell for a while- I listen to most of my music on my CD player, since my laptop's speakers are miserable, and I have few mp3s at the moment since I'm still piecing my soulseek/shared files folder back together after a hd crash.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Friday, 8 July 2005 01:11 (eighteen years ago) link

I just joined but I screwed up and accidentally switched iTunes to repeat instead of shuffle and then I stepped away from my computer for a while. So right now it looks like I really like Hypnotic Tango.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:35 (eighteen years ago) link

Uh, I haven't been able to notice anything on audioscrob for quite a few days now...

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Monday, 8 August 2005 14:35 (eighteen years ago) link

home page says:

new site
Tuesday 9th August.

Are they just telling us today's date or does this mean it will relaunch today?

I wish they would lose those STUPID, UNFUNNY appropriated slogans already. Of all the things to retain for the holding page...

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 11:44 (eighteen years ago) link

It said that yesterday too, so I think its relaunching today.

Ark Hopping (avoid80), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 11:57 (eighteen years ago) link

So yesterday they said it was tuesday? I AM CONFUSED. ;-)

nathalie sans denouement (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 12:04 (eighteen years ago) link

Yes, that is correct. I think. What I mean is, yesterday, which was Monday 8th August, the site said "Tuesday 9th August". Or something.

Ark Hopping (avoid80), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 12:07 (eighteen years ago) link

I listened to 'Everything Counts' from '101' about seven times last week which was exciting until I realised it hadn't been tagged, ha.

Dominique (dleone), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 18:52 (eighteen years ago) link

i'm sure they're just working out the kinks to make it faster.

it displays my top 294 albums! that's pretty hot.

the leglo (the leglo), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 19:12 (eighteen years ago) link

It's so slow because everyone's checking out the new site i guess. I'm sure the load must be pretty high.

Oh, http://www.last.fm/user/veneman is my page...

Hans Veneman (veneman), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 19:54 (eighteen years ago) link

very slow now, but my musical neighbors are a bit closer to my taste at least.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 22:10 (eighteen years ago) link

(btw: most popular #1: Coldplay, with 21 users having listened to it the week of March 13; least popular #1: Broadcast, "I Found the F," with only 9 users last week)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 22:14 (eighteen years ago) link

This chart could be easily sabotaged if 20 of the non Annie/Vitalic/Coldplay listening ILXors conspired to all listen to a certain track one week.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 22:31 (eighteen years ago) link

Well, yes.
