i contemplate pantha du prince, efdemin, lawrence and redshape on saturday in ldn fields

lex pretend, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 11:43 (eleven years ago) link

roman flugel is there too! tempting but those big name lineups just scream 'roadblock' to me (lol old). i'm thinking about factory floor/peter gordon at the ICA on the same night, and/or juju & jordash at corsica on friday.

jabba hands, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 11:53 (eleven years ago) link

If I was still in London there would be NO question about that Dial night. That lineup could be in the 9th ring of Hell and it would still be amazing.

I went to the Komische night. We stayed for Roedelius but could have done with some beanbags to lounge around on during the performance! After he finished we opted to leave for some house music so went across to Nomad. Never been there before, sound system not brilliant and odd crowd. There was a couple heaving petting in the middle of the dancefloor for at least an hour. It emptied out by 3 for Audio Werner who was really very good.

mmmm, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 12:19 (eleven years ago) link

heavy not heaving!

i have tickets for the dial thing (a fiver back in july) but i'm mega-skint paying for a diploma at the moment, so i might pass, even the price of a drink or two is beyond my meagre budget.

it is an unbelievable lineup tho, and i could walk there in about 10 mins.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 12:38 (eleven years ago) link

how was the dial night?

J&J live were good but it was a fairly sparse crowd and the atmosphere was a little flat. tama sumo livened things up afterwards. factory floor & peter gordon the next night were really, really great.

jabba hands, Sunday, 16 September 2012 16:12 (eleven years ago) link

dial was good imo, the venue was decent, v v hot. tunes were good in fits and starts, half hour here and there, but overall a good vibe. flugel was v odd, he played what sounded like 05ish minimal stuff. efdemin played some great bits at times, and i think it was lawrence in the main room who was good.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Sunday, 16 September 2012 16:25 (eleven years ago) link

venue was good but waaay too hot and overofficious security running around like FBI men gone wild (running to close a window someone just opened?)

efdemin/roman flugel played different kinds of things, no particular coherent theme but was good in places
pantha du prince was actually not too bad, better than i thought he would be

lawrence was easily the best tho, tapered a bit towards the end but great otherwise

suare, Sunday, 16 September 2012 17:31 (eleven years ago) link

i felt guilty for bailing after being up for it but looks like it wasn't such a bad decision

lex pretend, Sunday, 16 September 2012 17:37 (eleven years ago) link

Corsica still continuing to oversell their nights

Is that just a programming issue, with a relatively empty Room 2 as often happens at Corsica; plain over-crowding; or are you talking about having to wait with pre-bought tickets because it's overcapacity?

Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 16 September 2012 17:53 (eleven years ago) link

sometimes lopsided line ups with empty second room, and sometimes just plain overcrowding - not had any problems with waiting to actually get in though

suare, Sunday, 16 September 2012 19:40 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, last time i was there the second room was like a pretty busy normal club while the main room was jam packed beyond any possibility of dancing.

tubular, mondo, gnabry (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 16 September 2012 19:54 (eleven years ago) link

You just need to go to the nights no one wants to go to, like me. :D

Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 16 September 2012 23:19 (eleven years ago) link

So, I'm going to catch some rather deep techno this Saturday. Bleep 43 have Svreca playing at The Waiting Room in Stoke Newington.

O_O footage of the police raid on 93 Feet East

Albert Crampus (NickB), Monday, 10 December 2012 15:38 (eleven years ago) link

It's all a bit keystone cops with the sped-up footage.

Seems like total overkill to me.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 10 December 2012 19:28 (eleven years ago) link

Svreca was absolutely brilliant a couple of months back, very highly recommended.

Cheeky plug, I’m going to be playing some records with a couple of friends in that Dalston at a venue called Power Lunches on Sunday 17th. Hopefully there will be dancing.

Crackle Box, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 13:38 (eleven years ago) link

It’ll be downstairs.

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 14:23 (eleven years ago) link

…and the day before I will be catching the every excellent Mick Wills in The Waiting Room, Stoke Newington. Highly recommended.

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 12 February 2013 11:45 (eleven years ago) link

er, very excellent.

how's the summer looking for people? i don't have much but i am looking forward to sweating myself into oblivion at beauty and the beat tonight.

Fanois och Alexander (Merdeyeux), Saturday, 13 July 2013 18:16 (ten years ago) link

oh, i was planning to go to that but failed to get a crew together - hope you have an excellent night!

this summer definitely deserves more dancing.

Anyone happen to be going to Eastern Electrics festival in Knebworth? Not technically London, but easy to get to.

Pingu Unchained (dog latin), Sunday, 14 July 2013 08:44 (ten years ago) link

Probably going to UR/Mills/Hood on August bank holiday.

Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 14 July 2013 12:23 (ten years ago) link

pretty cool that BATB have their full sets online now - http://www.houseparty.org.uk/#e1e/custom_plain - giving the most recent one a re-listen gave me the very important reminder of the ridiculous last ninety minutes or so, which included this in its entirety:

Interesting, althought the pictures look a little tame? I know that’s not a good judge of music, so I will give the mixes a spin.

I am definitely UR/Mills/Hooding though if anyone fancies meeting.

Just a little bit of spam, but I will be dancing and also DJing at a night I run with friends in Dalston tonight from 9-3. We have Neville Watson guest DJing for us who is absolutely going to smash it, the space is very intimate, and we are also putting it on for FREE simply because we like to throw a good party, so no excuses really. https://www.facebook.com/events/257377207746381/?fref=ts

Hadn't really been out dancing in a while until this weekend. I think my tolerance for London nights is waning. It's the same problems of the last few years really - crap temporary venues, lack of organisation, but most of all the people. Why charge around the dance floor back and forth pushing people? Why get so out of it you can't stand up so fall into other dancers? If your friend does this you have a duty to help them. I had a good night at Netil House on Saturday but that was really due to being with good friends and Sonja Moonear's set. Fantastic DJ. Would definitely go out more often if there weren't these issues.

mmmm, Monday, 3 February 2014 14:05 (ten years ago) link

Come and try our night on the 22nd in Dalston. We only have a tiny sweatbox venue which holds 50, and only an OK soundsystem, but we keep it free, have a great atmosphere, friendly crowd (mostly mates, word of mouth and some posts in select places) and most importantly great tunes. OK, that last part can be subjective, so here’s a mix by another of the residents: https://soundcloud.com/frank_mitchell/demented-but-determined.

Event page here, https://www.facebook.com/events/1408677899370795/?fref=ts . Yes I am going to hell for spamming ILX.

oh you poor thread :(

anybody doing anything on Aug 1 or 2?

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 16 July 2014 19:43 (nine years ago) link

was thinking fur coat & no artificial colours might be good but i've never been to the nest

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 16 July 2014 19:45 (nine years ago) link

The Nest is a bit of a hellhole tbh. Started off kinda interesting but then they went all out with their trashy Dalstonite aesthetic.

The Hydra's schedule for the rest of the year is pretty impressive - http://the-hydra.net/#events - though tbh I think I've lost the taste for big name events.

Merdeyeux, Wednesday, 16 July 2014 20:34 (nine years ago) link

Hehe, my friend DJs at The Nest, I’ve never been though. We have Mark Forshaw playing for us in the basement of Olive, N16 7PL, near the 24 hour bagel place. 9-3am Free Entry. I’m going to be playing a very slow warm-up set from 9.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 16 July 2014 21:14 (nine years ago) link

^ Er that’s this Saturday I should have mentioned.
