I guess I could plan a trip myself, someday, instead of sending Mr. Green

You have no need for worry - I do not travel. Ever.

Brony 4 Life (Latham Green), Thursday, 6 September 2012 18:38 (eleven years ago) link

Montreal all is probably not that far from you!

err no "all"

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 6 September 2012 18:39 (eleven years ago) link

Montreal-all is what we call the city as a whole

Lamp, Thursday, 6 September 2012 18:41 (eleven years ago) link

ipconfig -all

Brony 4 Life (Latham Green), Thursday, 6 September 2012 18:43 (eleven years ago) link

your naïve bacon (mh), Thursday, 6 September 2012 18:44 (eleven years ago) link

"Actors Dirk Benedict (as fighter pilot Starbuck) and Bobby Van (as Hector, the android), traveled to Montreal for these scenes. Benedict has been quoted as saying it was an uncomfortable experience - not all that surprising in that the scenes were shot in winter in buildings that had not been heated in years."

plus he was with an Eggplant man

Brony 4 Life (Latham Green), Thursday, 6 September 2012 18:47 (eleven years ago) link

yeah perhaps in order to post itt, one has to at least have an intention of visiting Montreal in the near future, give or take a year. we will soon grow tired of yr wistfulness for what we got. we all know that all this eggplant talk is but a thin veneer.

Did anyone ever see that Altman movie shot in some place related to Expo 67 -- maybe Habitat, maybe something else... was it called Quintet? That looked COLD

#1 Thwartstop Prospect (Will M.), Thursday, 6 September 2012 18:52 (eleven years ago) link

Is that why6 the baseball team was called the expos? Tim Raines> ( NOt Gaines)

Brony 4 Life (Latham Green), Thursday, 6 September 2012 18:59 (eleven years ago) link

i had to watch Quintet in an undergrad film class for a section about auteurs
it's a pretty boring movie! or at least it was to 20-yr-old me

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 6 September 2012 19:02 (eleven years ago) link

You are wiser now - and taking it all in - the sights, the sounds...you still remember your earlier trembling moments. Now you are the Regis. Meanwhile, I am still the fool, fallin gover in tide pools

Brony 4 Life (Latham Green), Thursday, 6 September 2012 19:05 (eleven years ago) link

yep, expos named after the 67 expo. i don't think i finished watched quintet afaik. pretty cool buildings tho.

#1 Thwartstop Prospect (Will M.), Thursday, 6 September 2012 19:09 (eleven years ago) link

man i was jsut thinknig about mile end brunches and realized i probably havent had a nice civil mile end sunday brunch in like a year, only st-henri janko brunches at greenspot etc.

i think senzala closed? i kinda remember sparrow's brunch being good. does lawrence or lemeac or one of those places that start with an L have a brunch?

#1 Thwartstop Prospect (Will M.), Thursday, 6 September 2012 19:12 (eleven years ago) link

#1 Thwartstop Prospect (Will M.), Thursday, 6 September 2012 19:12 (eleven years ago) link

Will M please love yoruself despite yoru failings.

anyway if a movie is boring just skip ahead - thta's what I do when I watch Dark SHadows - I love it but its the most boring show ever

cafe cherrier on cherrier/st-denis is p great brunch spot

flopson, Thursday, 6 September 2012 19:42 (eleven years ago) link

ah, brunch... i used to eschew it but i'm getting over that. i guess it depends on what you're looking for - i tend to go middle-of-the-road, not a straight-up diner but not a gourmet place either. and i like a certain comfy and not-too-loud environment. that said, i don't go out for brunch very often, so...
in mile-end-ish:

i like
cafe souvenir on bernard, esp because terrasse
velo cafe on beaubien
boite gourmand on laurier

and screw it, i will plug the site i write for: http://www.tourisme-montreal.org/blog/where-to-eat/the-mile-ends-best-brunches/

lamp i recommend:

lawrence (a bit $$ but hella worth it... also usually a bit of a wait... BUT WORTH IT)
lemeac (same except for the wait)
vieux velo (cheaper, chiller, dece eggs benny...not crazy great but nice)
beautys (classic)

i keep forgetting to bump this thread but a couple of things made me think of it:

have you all seen the first issue of CULT, which afaik is the autonomously published new magazine by ex-Mirror staff?

& also, ty for the recommendations for Montreal stuff to do. Jean Talon was rad, & I came back with vegetables in colourways I hadn't seen before, & the falafel at green dragon is real nice. I could do without the gherkin but yeah real good.

ha yes. thanks. no it was good, i got it to take out & was worried as soon as i remembered all other instances in which i've tried to eat something coated in tahini sauce while on the move, but it was v neat. i wish that more places did the thing where they smash the falafel up a bit before including - this is a falafel sandwich protip imo - but yeah i dug it, i should try their other stuff. i have to try the crazy cheap downtown place w/$2 falafel & soup next.

the weather is so so nice at the moment.

i'm trying to get to dam funk on wednesday, i have no idea how free-pop-mtl-shows work though, like with things like this i assume i will intend to go & then that the event will be populated by just everyone who had their shit more together than i did.

yeah. but wait that godard thing is like a zillion hours long, & hilariously is a double feature. i think shoah will be my marathon thing, provided i can squeeze it in. CDP programming so good so far.

I saw you from across the room at pop opening party but was in conversation and missed you. Tell cold to go away so you can at least come late-night dancing.
