Recently upgraded system sounded sweet the last time I went to Corsica.

tief are really bringing it atm. just saw legowelt last weekend and jus-ed a while before that. both were great although the crowd's reluctance to dance during the ed night nearly ruined it. had to close my eyes and shut them out.

Some great electro-y techno gear here:

The very short bits of the track I heard while skimming didn't necessarily grab me; that said:
AHHHHHHHH BOSTON TERRIER!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Massive Innervisions vibe there.

On that note, can we talk about the total ace-ness that is Howling (+ Ame Remix).

The subtle bowl-you-over effect of Ame in their usual excellence. I remember being pretty indifferent to it when I first heard it, but hearing dixon play it a few nights later I (not recognizing it) Shazamed it four times just to find out what it was (rarely will I try more than twice).

Anyways, it's grown on me even more since, and yeah, it's gorgeous.

Has this been mentioned up in here? Just saw it on Ada's RA chart...reaaaaly nice stuff:

And a quick ILX search suggests that he used to post on here?

Studio Barnhus putting out some good things.

new tom middleton (i know) is sounding amazing, had heard it in a few mixes.

samples here, http://www.juno.co.uk/products/penrose-steps/467138-01/ a1 is the track i'm talking about.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 20:46 (eleven years ago) link

still not feeling that frank wiedemann track. it's got this―to put it harshly―gay indie vocal that I had grown tired of.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 13 September 2012 00:50 (eleven years ago) link

'gay' as pejorative, really dude? (i don't like that vocal either)

jabba hands, Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:09 (eleven years ago) link

pejorative? no, not really. it's like when people call disco or house gay.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:41 (eleven years ago) link

dunno whether lauer belongs here or one of the disco threads but this remix is great http://soundcloud.com/kitsune-maison/maybe-you-lauer-remix

Steevio's new EP captures the vibe of his amazing Freerotation sets really well:

That Tom Middleton above. I've been meaning to make a track with a "barber-pole" effect for about 15 years but never got around to it.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 09:39 (eleven years ago) link

That Middleton track, is there a minimal revival happening already, or did Ovum never leave?

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 09:42 (eleven years ago) link

is that really minimal? sounds like house to me

plus ovum was always kinda housier, rather than minimal.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 19 September 2012 10:53 (eleven years ago) link

i got a lot of my old vinyl from my parent's house recently, this one, on ovum, still sounds really good to me.

It's a beefier Middleton'd take, but the use of a gimmicky non-melodic hook and looping quasi-techno backing is exactly the kind of minimal tech-house crossover I got so bored of, just before the more deeper sounds in house started to gain traction again a few years back.

Quite amazed no-one has put this on Youtube yet as it's been out since January, but one my favourite house drops of the year is in this track:

i think you're totally wrong on this, it's nothing like that sound at all to me.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Friday, 21 September 2012 11:38 (eleven years ago) link

Just listened to the Penrose Steps sample and... you might have heard those plock-plock noises in a minimal set but not any other element of the track. I think of Middleton as a straight-up maximalist really.

Matt DC, Friday, 21 September 2012 11:43 (eleven years ago) link

it sounds amazing in this gerd panorama bar mix: http://soundcloud.com/gerd/gerd-dj-set-panorama-bar

and not at all out of place next to all the classic stuff.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Friday, 21 September 2012 11:50 (eleven years ago) link

"Penrose Steps" reminds me of Claude Von Stroke more than archetypal minimal.

Tim F, Friday, 21 September 2012 11:53 (eleven years ago) link

reminds me of i dunno, ian pooley or someone pre all of that

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Friday, 21 September 2012 11:56 (eleven years ago) link

We could do with some of you beatific dreamers over on the House Music ID thread

suare, Friday, 21 September 2012 11:59 (eleven years ago) link

We're going to have to disagree, Penrose Steps track song still sounding like part of a second-tier Minus DJ-set from mid-00s to me.

Here's a treat, Magic Mountain High live set from Panorama Bar:

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 13:34 (eleven years ago) link

Comparing things to the bits of minimal we didn't like is the new comparing them to big beat.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 13:36 (eleven years ago) link

OK, let's just say I'm not a fan of that track then.

Skimming through there is some great stuff in that Gerd mix, but someone needs to tell him that keeping the mixer in the red the whole time isn't ideal, where is Penrose Steps in it though, I couldn't find it.

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 13:42 (eleven years ago) link

But, take a listen to a mix like this for example and skim through, can you really not hear a similarity? http://soundcloud.com/nightclubber-ro/magda-2005-12-17-live-at-magnetronik-utrecht

Very little in the world of house has tickled me lately but the opener to the mungolian jetset album has made my year
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWXhSw1JZfY

I also made bez dance to it on a beach in wales last week

Loving this new Legowelt:

http://soundcloud.com/legowelt-official/elements-of-houz-music

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 18:04 (eleven years ago) link

that toccata is amazing, it was mentioned elsewhere, somewhere.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 21:26 (eleven years ago) link

Can't believe I've neglected Mungolian Jetset so far. This one sounds like a lost Orb track from '92!

hot slag (lukas), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 23:14 (eleven years ago) link

it's at 1.33 in the Gerd mix, chew, maybe I've got the wrong side of the Tom Middleton as one side I wasn't feeling at all, it could be that Penrose Steps is that one.

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 09:23 (eleven years ago) link

or that we disagree. (i can't bring myself to play a magda set, didn't like the tunes she plays then, doubt i'll like them now!)

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 09:24 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, you were talking about Hawkes Groove, which is very Middleton, and very nice: http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF467138-01-02-01.mp3

This is Penrose Steps, which is just a very high-concept idea of using the "barper-pole" effect: http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF467138-01-01-01.mp3

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 10:46 (eleven years ago) link

Is that a Reich sample in that Jaga Jazzist track?

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 10:53 (eleven years ago) link

ah sorry, my bad on that, yeah i just turned off the other one after 5 seconds, rubbish, i agree. nice to name it after kenny hawkes too. i think the WAS clip i linked to earlier might have been mislabelled.
