Yeah, that's Kelly, and was on yesterday afternoon. I watched the first segment of it and was boggled by Claire Sombert's muscles.

Minnelli's great when he's on, but he's not the ONLY awesome musical director out there.
prefer Hermione Baddeley to Hermione Gingold, eh? xp

(I believe that's Stephin Merritt's choice for #1 and he's seen plenty)
That's a great movie. Watch it if you haven't seen it.
(I like Hermione Gingold tons in The Music Man.)

I believe there are 4 'stars' of this group of films who are still alive.

it’s with great honor that I report to you that an hour’s worth of rare silent-era animation from my collection will be airing on Turner Classic Movies, *tonight*, at 12am eastern/9pm pacific. For this very special and long overdue broadcast event, we’ve curated several rare, once-thought-lost, historically significant or just downright funny cartoons produced in New York City between 1907 and 1926. That’s not all, though--TCM host Robert Osborne, with Jerry Beck co-hosting, are also presenting both Fleischer features, a block of UPA cartoons, and The Adventures of Prince Achmed in addition to the early NYC shorts. It’s not to be missed! I hope some or many of you can tune in or set your DVR in time. Star of the month: Stanwyck, some funky early 30s yesterday, sorry I couldn't pull myself away long enough to alert. Today's not her, but survivors of Nuclear War (she shoulda done one of those; imagine being in a suburban fallout shelter w 50s her). Tonight: Crumb one of my fav docs ever, 1:00 a.m. CST, followed by Gaudi, feat Gaudi himself, from 1966.
― dow, Friday, 21 December 2012 16:53 (eleven years ago) link
Cool! I guess that'll be the first time the words "did you know he masturbates to his own work" are spoken on TCM. Speaking of Zwigoff, I watched Louie Bluie a few weeks ago and it is really really good.
― WilliamC, Friday, 21 December 2012 17:05 (eleven years ago) link
Yes. I'd begun to wonder what it might be like for someone his age in the early 70s, when the more fun aspects of the 60s surfaced and spread through the Deep South (maaan, lemme tell ya). And Louie's ready with an answer or five.
― dow, Friday, 21 December 2012 17:55 (eleven years ago) link
Wonder what Crumb and Bluie might have thought, watching each's Zwigoff docs? They had a number of shared interests...

― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 21 December 2012 22:37 (eleven years ago) link
I more or less learned to read by reading my dad's underground comix so Crumb is a touchstone as much as Dr. Seuss or Big Bird really. I remember liking the doc but i last saw it when it was first released; probably due for a rescreening.
