I was sure a single first place vote would guarantee a spot here - I guess if the present lover got 1 1st place and two other votes on top of that there's tougher competition than I thought.

Expected this one to fare much better considering it did good on the best 2011 tracks poll.

Cool! really looking forward to checking out stuff on this thread, i can allready tell there is going to be a lot of "why didn't i vote for that" moments for me. along with finding cool stuff that i missed first time around. And the graphics look great! thanks for making it happen.

Caught up on all the youtubes now - from the ones that I wasn't familiar with before, I think Invisible Conga People - Cable Dazed is my favorite so far. Really the Killers & M83 tunes are the only ones that I'm not too keen on, so a pretty good start.
Heading to bed now, will rejoin the fray after work tomorrow. Thanks again to Moka for the work on this.

"Transition" should be much higher imo. but i didn't even vote for it as i thought it was pre 2000. it just feels like an all time classic.

The gap between voting and now has made this more interesting, I think, as I'd forgotten which things got ruled out in my late cuts from 100 or so down to 50. Things I voted for that have ranked so far:

Solitary Flight was my number 9. Love this track, I only discovered it a couple of years ago. Such a great sample flip, I have probably listened to the Bladerunner OST hundreds of times and yet, when i heard Theo's take on it though instantly familiar i could not place the source. maybe because everyone samples like "these moments lost in time" or "tell me the first thing that cames into your head when i mention your mother" random SFX or even techier parts of the score, but in theos hands "memories of Green" takes on these like weary gospel vibes or something. rather than what i associate with bladerunner vibes.

whoa, i'm so excited! here's an idea, moka: how about you do a search for each track on ILM and quote one or two interesting comments about the track? your graphics are great and all but without words it can feel dry. in fact, i'll do that myself if you give me the full results.

but it's a bit hard to feel anything about Moka's presentation is lacking when she's rescued the poll altogether and is blowing up the jpg game

I liked Rocker a lot at the time but it feels kinda clunky now.

never liked 'rocker' at all. made up 'over the ice' made it, even if relatively low, thought it may suffer from an axl vote-split.

i liked the 00s in dance music but this was probably to a large extent because i was 19-26 during the decade and, you know, dancing on a beach in barcelona or in the sub club full of MDMA half the time

Yeah I know, I barely experienced electronic music in the 90’s, I started in 1997 when I was 13 with the popular alternative labels like warp or ninjatune. Internet was nowhere as fast and easy back then in my country so it was until much later that I actually discovered all the great electronic music from the 90’s and it was as banging and beautiful as it was in the 00’s. But as I said, I’m just wearing my nostalgia goggles. I was 15 in 1999 so it was until the 00’s that I actually started experiencing electronic music in a wider, social context so I’m specially fond of the tracks of that decade. Someone 10 years younger than me would probably tell me the 2010s was his ideal era for electronic music.

In my experience the 90's was more magical, in the 00's underground matured. Of course I also stopped taking e right in 2001. But that b*nger thread (heh) got me thinking about the party I went to in the mid-00's, a Sunset Party on the rooftop of the SF MOMA iirc. It wasn't bad but wasn't one of the more magic Sunset gatherings I've been to. Anyway as I was riding the elevator to leave the party, and I wasn't even that old at the time, there were some late teen/early 20's kids griping about the 'old people' at the party. It was kind of a defining moment for me.

Otoh at one of the last Sunset Parties I went to I was with a DJ pal who kind of in the 'inner circle'. I was feeling the buzz and talking about how magical the parties were and he took that and ran with it, babbling about the 'magic' for weeks. I love the guy. In retrospect it's clear that 'magic' was mostly the result of heavy cocaine use from what I saw although I was never inducted into the inner circle. The 90's magic was definitely more straight MDMA which is a BLAST for the experience of communal bliss through dancing to hypnotic grooves.

have you all ever noticed that going back to the old school, doing it how we used to do it, getting back to the roots, etc is an evergreen trope in dance music? there are tracks from like 1990 talking about going back to the old school!

Also the advent of smartphones, FB, etc drastically changed the scene starting in the early 00's. Just as the internet completely reshaped the music industry. Can you imagine getting rich off of one 12"?
