I doubt he was aware the poll existed

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 24 January 2009 16:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Just in case anyone is wondering I don't have the stats for record labels for the whole poll. I had to do the 50 manually by just running down the top 50 where I actually had posted the record label name.

Yeah Jeff do a poll for rap.

I thought deej or Hoos would have done a rap poll actually. Could have been a useful way for the non-autogoon's to find out about good stuff.

To say something I'll probably regret - if someone can be arsed sorting out rules and such, I'll count votes and whatnot for a rap poll. Someone may also have to tell me how to post images.

I think most if not all of the 2nd press colours are still available from Robotic Empire.
Pic disk version was shops only.

― a hoy hoy,

If you ask musically she might share her secrets with you. Though she will be busy for 2 weeks doing the big ilx poll results.
Also you should ask on the autogoon thread to see if anyone will help.

Posting images is easy. Just click the link to show formatting help below where you type out a post.

Good luck!

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 24 January 2009 19:26 (fifteen years ago) link

What I did was I started a nominations thread.
Keep it open for a week. Then compile all the nominations then do a thread with the list on it, with details on how to vote and supply an email address for ballots to be sent to (I set up a specific gmail for it)
Once voting ends you count it all up.

Then I got stuck on how to tabulate and thankfully got help with that!
But if you know how to work excel, you should be ok!

Get album covers from Amazon or somewhere (don't use rateyourmusic, they don't show up)
And use the tag to post

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 24 January 2009 19:45 (fifteen years ago) link

Oh and some of them would rather have a rap trax poll, so you might have to do both.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 24 January 2009 19:50 (fifteen years ago) link

I'm thinking about it, if I do move it'll be tomorrow. cheers for the info though. (Tomorrow I'm also going to pick one of the albums on this list I like the cover of to listen to.)

Glad to be of help. Good luck with it all. Just keep bumping the nominations and voting threads. Check out the metal noms and voting threads for some tips on how to run it.

Torche should appeal to all pop fans. The band themselves label it "stoner pop" or "sludge pop".

I cant find any pics of the deluxe versions of Earth or Colour Haze. Which is a shame as they're really nice.

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 24 January 2009 22:25 (fifteen years ago) link

The Colour Haze gatefold was a sleeve like a hard backed book, inside it was like a photo book. Really really nice. I don't have a cam or I would take photos. Same with the Earth vinyl.

"Colour Haze’s “All” lives up to its name. It seems to capture practically “All” of Colour Haze’s reach and breadth in one single amazing disc. Each album they have released has been, to me, a cause of celebration. But this one is a revelation—never before have they ever packed so much range into an album, and such a superb blend of studio precision and free flowing abandon. This album adds even more psychedelia (was that possible?) to the mix, along with the most effective set of shorter songs they’ve ever released."

EARTH - "THE BEES MADE HONEY IN THE LION'S SKULL"
sunn90 CD&2XLP

Earth's latest incarnation will be available FEBRUARY 2008. After refaceting some old gems for greater illumination on "Hibernaculum". The band returns once again to it's continuing evolution. Where "Hex" reveled in dark satanic twang and austere american beauty, "The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull" finds Dylan Carlson and the band growing into a harder, more rock, american Gospel and impovisitory direction framed by truly psychedelic production and blazing guitar sounds.

Earth shows it's affinity with a nod to the best elements of the more adventurous San Francisco bands of the late 60's and 70's, and the more spiritually aware and exciting forms of Jazz-Rock from the same era. This is no nostalgia trip but a thoroughly inspired and original metamorphosis. Earth is also very honored to be joined on this record for three songs by legendary and virtuoso guitarist BILL FRISELL (doing some of his most fuzzed out playing in years!) .

Bill Frisell adds a brilliant texture and counterpoint to the scintillating and inspired riffs of Dylan Carlson and the band. Adrienne Davies joins again on drums lending a classic and steady feel to the proceedings. Steve Moore also returns adding heavy hammond organ and his intense jazz inspired piano playing. Live Bassist Don McGreevy also makes his full length Earth debut on this record.

Earth will begin touring throughout the world when the album is released, Australia, Europe and a full US campaign and on from there. The new songs are equally compelling live where EARTH takes the vehicles and expand and explore them for further musical and meditative exploration. Enjoy "The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull".

"From Strength, sweetness. From darkness, Light, The bees made honey in the Lion's Skull"

I had no idea Frisell played on an Earth album TBH. Will get for certain.

Everything I have downloaded so far is really good. Why did I never hear Caina before? And Torche indeed seems as good as "Foo Fighters in Southern Lord jeans" made them sound. (Actually, they remind me of Sunny Day Real Estate at times.)

(Had Opeth and Meshuggah before, liked both but thought both bands had done better, as my question upthread might have suggested.)

Sundar, Sunday, 25 January 2009 01:56 (fifteen years ago) link

But, in the case of Meshuggah, it might be that I just really like "I".

Also, I asked on autogoon about the rap list and i dunno...

I think Scott feels your pain. Didn't he say he couldn't keep up with new music as he had lots of old but great stuff to catch up on?
