I was going to try Mario Galaxy, but we couldn't find the disc at my buddy's house.

having now had the opportunity to play portal, i have to say it was robbed.

I am amused that a digital format of the New York Times Crossword Puzzle outranks Halo 3.

It has over 1000 puzzles and is awesome.

Not arguing! Just amused.
I want a "BELIEVE" commercial for the NYT Crossword DS...

I still haven't played Mario Galaxy, I should get around to that.

Holy holy what a good year for games. I still haven't played Mario Galaxy or even seen it played. Or in fact any game on Wii besides the minigames games.

Decade poll is a great idea if someone wants to do the work

decade poll makes no sense imo-- if you are going to take a massive xsection i would rather see "generation" poll-- ie. best of the ps2/xbox/gamecube era or something. Decades are arbitrary enough for movies, films, etc but for games it makes NO sense.

I would totally vote in best of platform awards.

also, with this much work, i really wanna get at least fifty voters so it feels like this has the weight of groupthink behind it. Same amount of work if it's twenty or fifty!

How would cross-platform games work however? Should it just be an all-encompassing sixth-generation home console best-of (DC, GC, PS2, XBOX)? Or is that too much of a clusterfuck? I think individual ones still makes the most sense, it's crazy when you think about how many games back then were on one console or the other vs. now where almost everything is on both!

I think going system-by-system would make the most sense; sometimes multi-platform games are better on one system than any others (Killer 7 & Beyond Good and Evil on GC come to mind) and would receive the most appropriate number of votes that way.

I would recommend breaking up the work so you have one person collating votes, organizing the entries and putting them on ilx (i might be willing to do this part; one person pulling ilx commentary, one person pulling youtubes, one person pulling links and one person pulling photos.

ooh system-by-system would be really fun! though the ps2 is still getting releases...
