two months pass...

my other bizarre-o 6-team league went totally bonkers just before the trade deadline - the net results of the 4 trades i was involved in:

got:
Chase Utley
Hanley Ramirez
Brian McCann
Cole Hamels
Joe Saunders

for:
Ian Kinsler
Michael Young
Brain Roberts
Carlos Zambrano
Kevin Gregg
Joe Saunders (i got him and then traded him immediately!)

that's some crazy shit, no?!

Lee, I hope to God you did NOT trade CC.

CC is still a whatever-the-hell-my-team-name-is, but only because I haven't touched that league since Papi first got hurt.

i am in a 12 team work h2h league with $250 on the table that is a total joke.
min innings were set to 10, which i took full advantage of on draft day. it also caused a minor revolt six weeks in when people realized what was happening.

punting wins and Ks, two elite closers, two strong closers. edwin jackson and latos off the wire as backup innings eaters.

here's my lol offense:

Pos Edit Batters draft actual

Anybody think Jimmy Rollins is going to be healthy this year?

Grisly Addams (WmC), Saturday, 22 May 2010 19:11 (thirteen years ago) link

Recommendation: Hill doesn't have a multi-hit game since May 9 and is now batting .156 on the season. He was definitely due to regress this season, but this is getting ridiculous. With a 25:20 K:BB ratio, he remains a strong buy-low target.

Andy K, Tuesday, 25 May 2010 10:20 (thirteen years ago) link

so in my other league i proposed a trade to a SP starved team, buchholz (from me) for denard span (from him) -- my outfield right now is a bunch of guys who are gonna hit .275 w/ homers & rbi (ethier, heyward, hawpe, marlon byrd, victorino) & i'm looking for a solid average outfielder -- i feel like this is a pretty even trade, but my friend was telling me that span was pretty worthless

mr. milquetoast (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 May 2010 21:29 (thirteen years ago) link

Apart from early and late April, he has been solid AVG-wise.

denard span is the real but must suffer from some shin-soo choo disease as no one appreciates him.
to bring it back to ilxor people were all NO WAY about the Jones/Capps trade which i thought was odd. then a week later found out Jones was a first half all-star last year which sort of explains it.

i was more incredulous at Prado/Span as the former is an infield switchblade due for some serious regression while Span could be Uptonesque soon.

to be fair, prado has had two steady seasons w/ about the same numbers -- obv he's not gonna hit .340 but it's not out of the question for him to hit .320+

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 26 May 2010 01:43 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't know Prado's always looked like Angel Pagan to me with infield elgibility. not that that shouldn't be discounted.
two weeks ago i was watching a braves game and he was announced as the third baseman, i was like no he's a 1B,2B,3B.

The thing I really love about my other league is that the other managers don't seem to give a shit, or they have a life or something. The guy who has Strasburg didn't bother starting him tonight.

^^ looking back at the box score Venable K'ed twice but I still took the league by the skin of my teeth.

Was thinking about starting an auction league one-off for ilxors and/or friends. Never done an auction before and thought it might be fun, but I don't want to distract from Therm's ILB roto league.

What's a good set up for a minimum maintenance league? Didn't Ade run one? I was thinking roto style auction, with no trades, no free agents, and no faab. Sort of like a set it and the fun would be in the auction itself and how it plays out months later. Would people get bummed about injuries not being able to replace? And how would one set up pitching scoring so active managers with an eye on their starters wouldn't have an advantage? No bench?

Any interest out there?

sanskrit, Monday, 14 February 2011 15:36 (thirteen years ago) link

i've always wanted to try an auction - but i already run a 2nd league with my friends/coworkers here and for me a 3rd would be too much.

yeah i hear you, in the same boat. been meaning to do this for a couple years then saw this today:
http://www.insidethebook.com/ee/index.php/site/comments/yahoo_saber_league/

i'd just join that except:

1) won't join another Sunday afternoon draft when beautiful warm spring is here
2) not really feeling setting pitchers or keeping an eye on the waiver wire

The stat service I use for the five money leagues I run (Fanball) is shutting down. Which means I have to pick another service and re-enter ~1800 players and their contracts. And thus far it looks like Fanball was the only one with a semi-modern front end (type in part of a name and it fills in the rest or gives you the nearest options), all the others require a lot of scrolling.

auction always seems novel but I think I would give myself a panic attack or something trying to figure it all out and not end up with the worlds shittiest team and like, pujols.

strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Tuesday, 15 February 2011 00:47 (thirteen years ago) link

That's what makes it so awesome! The risk of drafting poorly is sooooo much higher.

reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Tuesday, 15 February 2011 00:59 (thirteen years ago) link

so how does that work anyways? are you bidding against other teams - or is there a set price for players or what?
or what.

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Tuesday, 15 February 2011 01:02 (thirteen years ago) link

You are bidding against other teams. Poly is correct about the risk, but there's additional tension as it's a little like monopoly or eBay -- you want to deplete other team's resources. If I hate Jeter but my projections say he's worth $10 and he's about to go for $4 then I price enforce with an $8 bid.. and I might be stuck holding the bag.

The main problem is that these drafts can last 4+ hours, really more of an in person thing.

sanskrit, Tuesday, 15 February 2011 01:43 (thirteen years ago) link

ten or eleven years of additions makes it pretty overwhelming to describe at first, but week-to-week it's pretty easy because you just try to have good players locked in for the week (no in-week changes). and we had pretty stable managership for a few years so everyone was pretty up to date on it.

, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 01:40 (two years ago) link

I think there’s two sets of keepers - one for majors and one for minors?

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 6 October 2021 03:22 (two years ago) link

yes exactly! sorry i didn't see this

the "minors slots" are keepable in perpetuity for free, but once you start them, they are no longer a "minors player" -- and must be kept with a "keeper slot."

Kompakt Total Landscaping (Will M.), Wednesday, 6 October 2021 21:18 (two years ago) link

to enter the minor slot they must A) be in the irl minors, and B) never been started by any team (so like, if a 30 year old spends a rehab stint in the minors, you can't put him there). once they're there, you can keep them there forever, even if they get called up, but they aren't earning you points. luckily we haven't had to make a rule about how long they're there yet because nobody's abused it. i came close by keeping buxton in my minors for like 3 years of his major league career (i was waiting for him to get good)
