this thread can also double as the one where we prognosticate which of these songs is gonna end up in whiney's voice column. i'm going with "reppin my city"

J0rdan S., Saturday, 29 March 2008 05:52 (sixteen years ago) link

so why are dudes like briehan clowning this like it's a paul barman album even though they liked the first one? i mean the beats are all really good but he gets a bunch of great hooks out in his own right, and i mean the rapping isn't great (duh) but he gets in a few good lines and he sounds pretty good in general.

i mean it seems like the party line on this is like "omg this is so depressing all this awful materialism corporate machinery" from dudes who jizz bombed american gangster and it doesn't make much sense to me, its just a totally listenable rap album imo

yeah "We Shinin'" is unsurprisingly the one song I really fuck with. haven't even gotten through the whole album yet, though. what I said above about his voice making me feel like I need a lozenge still stands.

"Paper Planes" freestyle: "What's funny about that record, I was up one night eating a Hot Pocket," he remembered. "Like 4 in the morning, watching one of them video shows. The [M.I.A.] video came on. This was two or three weeks ago. I had never heard the record. I was like, 'What's this? It's dope, whatever it is.'

I want a re-evaluation of "The Boss"

I remember a lot of hate/ambivalence toward this song when it came out. BUT (and I know you all value my opinion so much) it's one of the hottest rap tracks of the year, best T-Pain guest ft. on a single of 08 and one of THE BEST beats of the year! there i said it

A! (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Wednesday, 31 December 2008 05:55 (fifteen years ago) link

it kinda falls into the cat. of what i was tlaking about on the other thread like "what am i supposed to do with this" ie: not exactly made for the club, nor crossover attempt. but still i'll JR Rotem over both the Runners and Cool & Dre cuz he killed that beat.

A! (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Wednesday, 31 December 2008 05:58 (fifteen years ago) link

Ok correction, hottest rap singles not tracks

Speaking jr "that's gangsta turned out to be really dope too after a getting over initial disappointment but that may be even harder to defend

one year passes...

http://www.vulture.com/2014/01/rick-ross-sues-lmfao-over-catchphrase.html

this strikes me as funny because:

a) i was talking to my brother in Wisconsin last week about the snow, and he said "everyday I'm shufflin'" and i was like "ahhh, nice Rick Ross reference" and he went "that's Rick Ross? i thought it was LMFAO" and it turned out he's never heard "Hustlin'"

b) is the "every day I'm hustlin'" loop actual Ross's voice? it always sounded like someone else to me and The Runners always seemed to sample those slowed-down vocal loops from other songs so i kinda assumed it was from some obscure song i hadn't heard before.
