Some controversy around their Phoenix gig.

Last time I heard, you still have a dick, asshole (GPO, that is.)

Rockist Scientist, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 11:06 (sixteen years ago) link

uh? what makes him an asshole in this instance>?

chaki, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 17:29 (sixteen years ago) link

I too, will defend Genesis. Does anyone else here appreciate the song from the new Psychic TV album called "Lies And Then"? That is the only song I really particularly like off that album. It's a beautiful burst of pure alternating pop/punk vitriol, in my opinion.

That is an interesting article, joost. Thanks for posting it.

what is much more interesting to ME than the issue of where GPO can pee or not is that it appears from the above picture that he's taking his fashion tips from paul wall:

Yeah I was surprised when I saw her/him on stage that she/he actually had those same gold teeth as in that picture. Or at least s/he was determined to keep fake ones!

Does anyone know something about the ideology behind the thransgender esthetics of Genesis.

joost666, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 10:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Well I've always heard that the whole point is to surgically make Gen & Lady Jaye the same person. I haven't been able to find much "ideology" about it beyond that, but I'll dig out my magazine again from a couple of years ago and see if I can find anything I missed. I don't believe that Gen has taken hormones, which is why I believe people in-the-know might hesitate to directly call him/her transgendered. Although it's obvious that socially, s/he must bear the brunt of anything a transgendered person would.

All I can find on the Gen website is a paragraph or two on hermaphrodites, which is really another subject entirely than either transgendered people or whatever Gen is.

Bimble, Saturday, 1 September 2007 09:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Actually, if you go to here and wait until part two of the video interview, s/he talks about the ideology in more depth.

Lady Jaye died suddenly on Tuesday 9th October 2007 at home in Brooklyn, New York from a previously undiagnosed heart condition which is thought to have been connected with her long-term battle with stomach cancer. Lady Jaye collapsed and died in the arms of her heartbroken "other half" Genesis Breyer P-Orridge.

YES! Been waiting for this. "The Orchids" might be my favourite song, at least sometimes.

Mule, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 18:13 (eleven years ago) link

shame they didn't add the 12" that came with the original release. "catalan" from that features one of the best uses of the chapman stick bass ever recorded. maybe they stuck it on the bonus cd?

stirmonster, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 18:56 (eleven years ago) link

they did, along with the superb "The Full Pack" and other stuff, CD-R though...

Jordi Vals is one of my favorite peripheral Psychic TV figures -- he made an entire LP out of two attack dog samples he recorded for "The Full Pack"

Best PTV album by a country mile. Love that bit with the Holophonics where if you listen on headphones in the dark it sounds as if you're being buried alive.

i think i'd have to toss a coin to decide whether this or "force the hand..." was better. it also has some holophonic delights on it too.

"Dreams Less Sweet" was an important album to me when I was 16/17. I didn't know anything about them, I got a cassette copy of it from a friend, and it wasn't like any other music I listened to at the time. This was right when I had gotten my driver's license, and I liked to drive around country roads at night with that tape on, imagining some kind of pagan horrors in the cornfields.

Their contributions pop up periodically until the end of that clip, incidentally.

I'm more amazed than outraged to see masters being sold on ebay. How did they end up in the hands of someone who would sell them their?

I know, right? I mean, I guess if you have a high-quality backed up digital transfer you could live without it, but still!

I was sort of relieved that David Tibet got shot of that scene sharpish since I see him round town quite often and I'd rather it stay an "oh look there goes David Tibet" thing than a there goes that abusive cunt thing

Sorry that was a bit flippant, the stuff from Cosey was bad enough, just a lot of it was a bit vague. I don't have anything invested in Psychic TV or TOPY so I should probably stfu til I read it properly
