title track, oreo, green burrito, scumpipe, mouthhole, and scraps are all totally awes
its got that burbling teeming drony pastoralism that most of the BD stuff after beaches and canyons has had, which i love
― 69, Friday, 17 August 2007 19:08 (sixteen years ago) link
Anyone else have the Load Blown promo? I'm really enjoying this, though I'm only otherwise familiar with Beaches and Canyons.

― willem, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 13:58 (fifteen years ago) link

― Beatrix Kiddo, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 14:49 (fifteen years ago) link
o yeah read about it somewhere recently. what does it sound like (eg in comparison to previous albums)
― willem, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 14:51 (fifteen years ago) link

I love how this is gonna be out just in time for my birthday
― Plaxico (I know, right?), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 21:01 (fifteen years ago) link
this sounds cool. i think im more excited for the art booklet than the music.
― mizzell, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 21:06 (fifteen years ago) link
Sounds really like Copeland's solo stuff, esp the last one.
― Plaxico (I know, right?), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 21:07 (fifteen years ago) link
this is a good thing
haha, I'm getting a little bit of an earthbound vibe from that:
― original bgm, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 21:08 (fifteen years ago) link
totally - the solo work has spilled over into the main project, and def for the better. the dice just seem more open, looser, etc while still seeming a bit inhuman, too. it's hard to explain, i've only listened twice so far.
― Beatrix Kiddo, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 21:08 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah, its like their balearic album maybe! i was startin' to get a bit sick of their overtly dancey stuff
― Plaxico (I know, right?), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 21:09 (fifteen years ago) link
thats how i felt about roll up/drool. very very burbly, which i looooove.
― 69, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 21:20 (fifteen years ago) link
This might be their Merriweather Post Pavilion. Ha. No but really-just "located" this. It's great.
― OldHamSweat, Friday, 6 February 2009 20:27 (fifteen years ago) link
It's already leaked?
This might be the first album in years I wait for the physical.
― Plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 6 February 2009 20:43 (fifteen years ago) link
Spent all day listening to the Smiling off remixes.
i think Earthbound and balearic are off the mark, but feel it's kin to MPP, but in their own inscrutable way. if anything, Repo sorta makes Dice come full circle and i find it to be really punk. it's also bursting at the seams, messy as fuck, and i'm just glad that they've sorta reinvigorated themselves with this one. it also coheres with their visual aesthetic (not that Load Blown didn't).seeing as how it comes with a 20 page book of art, the physical (rather than the leak) will be sweet meat indeed.
― beta blog, Friday, 6 February 2009 21:11 (fifteen years ago) link
where can this be found? all of my usual tricks are failing me atm
― jammed hymen (k3vin k.), Friday, 6 February 2009 21:14 (fifteen years ago) link
I was sent it via e-mail from a connected buddy. Much like Ducktails (stupid, ignored thread I started) this shit is good with some shit. If you know what ah mean.
― OldHamSweat, Friday, 6 February 2009 21:22 (fifteen years ago) link
I'm sure it will be floating around soon
Well you're definitely right about it being more rough and ready (I'm basing all of this on Glazin btw) but its also looser, stretched at the seams, blissed out, but not in a boredoms psych-ey beaches and canyons but in a trashier VIBEZZ kinda way. Like something washed up at Ibiza maybe.

So, Repo is "out". Personally, I think it's their best yet. Well, at least their gooiest. I like goo ya know? I'm on my third listen. Awesome stuff. Anyone else heard?
― OldHamSweat, Wednesday, 11 February 2009 18:46 (fifteen years ago) link
Listening now
― Boring Sign In Name (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 11 February 2009 18:51 (fifteen years ago) link
really liking repo. it's extremely chewable and funky.
― m the g, Wednesday, 11 February 2009 18:55 (fifteen years ago) link
Is it just me or do parts of this sound like the more fucked up, sonically abstract elements of Ween? Like their early shit. Ween that is.
― OldHamSweat, Wednesday, 11 February 2009 20:20 (fifteen years ago) link
I've told you I'm not gonna listen to this until it actually comes out.
― Plaxico (I know, right?), Thursday, 12 February 2009 16:53 (fifteen years ago) link
I gave up on them shortly after Broken Ear Record - couldn't get into that one and didn't bother to listen to the next one that came out properly. How does this compare?
― the next grozart, Thursday, 12 February 2009 16:59 (fifteen years ago) link
i gave it a listen, its awful
― eman, Thursday, 12 February 2009 17:00 (fifteen years ago) link
didn't listen too closely but super roots 6 came to mind.
― original bgm, Thursday, 12 February 2009 17:34 (fifteen years ago) link
Rarely listen to Broken Ear Record, but yanked it out since someone mentioned it. It was better than I remember, Street Dude kinda knocked me square.

Just finally picked up the Cold Hands EP the other day. Have yet to listen, but I've not been able to find that one until now. I think this may complete my Black Dice 2" or so of shelf space...!

hold hands is my 2nd or 3rd faveourite. its kinda the crucial bridge between the early singles and b+c
― plax (ico), Thursday, 25 February 2010 18:19 (fourteen years ago) link
haha, it'd be awesome if they had a record called hold hands.
― mizzell, Thursday, 25 February 2010 18:21 (fourteen years ago) link
lol yah ooops

lots of noise people don't know "basic music stuff" or whatever
very true. it's one of the things that make it a kinda folk/populist genre and allows for diversity, as opposed to other "rock"-related genres that have certain educational requirements that serve as barriers to entry
― sarahell, Saturday, 30 March 2019 16:35 (five years ago) link
i laughed at the thank you to M1ke S1monett1, who was notorious for not paying bands on his label back in the day
― sarahell, Saturday, 30 March 2019 16:37 (five years ago) link
xp exactly
― brimstead, Saturday, 30 March 2019 16:43 (five years ago) link
he's quoted in the piece too, talking about how he never thought about or was concerned with whether or not a release would make money
― Paul Ponzi, Saturday, 30 March 2019 16:56 (five years ago) link
that's the case with a lot of labels tbrr, but most of them don't actively rip off bands and then bully them online when they ask for their contractual share of sales
― sarahell, Saturday, 30 March 2019 16:59 (five years ago) link
it's not just bands, some people have said he bought expensive records from them on eBay and then falsely claimed the records never arrived
― brimstead, Saturday, 30 March 2019 18:45 (five years ago) link
now that's punk rock
― Vapor waif (uptown churl), Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:18 (five years ago) link

Flaccid Mojo, which is Bjorn Copeland and Aaron Warren from Black Dice, just put out a really good debut album: https://flaccidmojo.bandcamp.com/album/fmA little like Mod Prog Sic but looser/weirder
