American spirit light green menthols?

calstars, Saturday, 11 September 2021 03:49 (two years ago) link

Weird that you ask, I just had one of those two days ago. It was wonderful! Not a smoker, but if I were it would be menthols.

I grew up breathing my dad's second hand smoke, then smoked for real for another dozen years, then I quit 35 years ago. I know well which of these feels best. Nicotine is highly underrated as a recreational or self-medicating drug, but the price is filthy lungs, a foul mouth, a weakened immune system, hacking up sputum on the regular, and an old age with a surplus of misery, and that's too high a price.

it is to laugh, like so, ha! (Aimless), Saturday, 11 September 2021 03:57 (two years ago) link

Xp yeah, I bought them without knowing they’re menthols. Not complaining

I waited til 40 to start and I only do it when I’m drinking but I can burn down a while pack over a long weekend

I've all but quit. It's fucking hard though and it's coincided with a tough time in my life. The hardest is when I'm out drinking. I'm so used to being able to, you know, leave the room and take a "breather" outside. So I've caved a few times, but on the whole I'm not smoking

I still smoke one a day, maybe two if I drink moderately.

I don't know how people maintain a one a day habit without getting nicotine cravings. I did manage it for a couple of months and regretted starting again and then switched to vaping.

I haven't had a traditional fire & tobacco cigarette since 2018 after having a pretty heavy habit for 26 years, but only because I switched to vaping. That started off being cheaper, but now it costs about the same. At least I'm not hacking up a lung anymore and I don't smell like shit all the time.

it’s weird I never crave them when I’m sober. honestly find them kind of disgusting. but after four drinks I will chain-smoke half a pack

caddy lac brougham? (will), Sunday, 12 September 2021 16:51 (two years ago) link

Same. I can't chain smoke, but neither can I smoke a cig sober.

Fell off the wagon for six weeks and was creeping close to a pack a day again, got back on via Juul, now to ditch the Juul.

I think someone posted on the vaping thread that one of the downsides of it is that the less harsh on your lungs delivery system makes it very easy to become a major nicotine fiend. If I was trying for same amount of nicotine I've became accustomed to from vaping it would probably take about 25/30 cigarettes a day to match it.

calzino, Sunday, 12 September 2021 17:52 (two years ago) link

I was only a smoker when I drank but like some people have said, I could smoke a packet of tobacco in a weekend if the opportunity presented itself. I properly quit about 10 years ago now and have only been back a couple of times. Last time I had a roll-up after a few beers, I threw up in a pub car park, then again when I got back to my wife's parents' - in the mother-in-law's water feature. That was a definitive end to that.

in the mother-in-law's water feature

not a euphemism.

I smoked from 17-34, with some notable breaks. Was never more than a pack/day, usually more like half a pack.

And so here is where I say that even after surviving stage IIIb cancer, I will occasionally buy myself a loose Newport from the corner store and delight in it. Probably once every few months.
