I assume some combination of butterfly and breast stroke... If not, more simply, doggy paddle.

I want to rescue one in 2K13

No but my dog's 3rd birthday is today! She celebrated by sleeping all day.

passion it person (La Lechera), Sunday, 23 December 2012 21:41 (eleven years ago) link

i have a few friends (all cyclists, for some reason) that rescued greyhounds---from what they've told me, rescue greyhounds can be skittish at first, and need to be exercised (though one of them is lazy, i guess)

that's all i got

well if it isn't old 11 cameras simon (gbx), Sunday, 23 December 2012 22:15 (eleven years ago) link

so i just remembered that doggy doors existed, and that having one could totally make it feasible for me to actually own a dog (that, or a heated doghouse)

my ish with having a pupster is that my schedule can involve insanely long workdays and that i live alone. but with a doggy door and/or doghouse, i could totes be away for a long-time and not worry about potty problems or exercise or w/e. would probably need two dogs, though, for loneliness...or do some dogs really not mind chilling by themselves all day?

You'd probably want to through a rescue (as opposed to a shelter), where the dogs are fostered, so they have a better idea of the dog's personality - you don't want to end up with one that has severe separation anxiety.

just1n3, Sunday, 23 December 2012 22:48 (eleven years ago) link

xpost dogs are social animals and generally do not do much better than you would if left alone for long periods with not much to do. which is crushing to me since i'm pretty much in yr sitch and also want all the dogs.

also a dog might need weeks/months before they're totally good w/ using a doggie door for 100% of their business

does anyone have experience w/greyhounds

I want to rescue one in 2K13

I used to have a greyhound, but I left her with my ex-boyfriend and she ran away (really fast).

Greyhounds are notoriously low-energy, very chill, and extremely good apartment dogs. Mine was a post-race rescue. She was shy, but very sweet. They need clothing for wintertime. The adoption agency told me that they strongly recommended crating them while you're out of the house, and they will happily spend a whole work-day in their crates. They said that the crate gives them a sense of security b/c breed's preferences plus how they were raised as race dogs.

Their low energy and minimal exercise needs are a surprise to a lot of people b/c when most people think of greyhounds, they think of them zooming around a track. They do like an occasional sprint, but the rest of the time they nap. The adoption people told me that having a greyhound is like having a cat that you can take outside for a walk.
