ha i saw them on thursday, chris thompson seemed kind of uncomfortable

― congratulations (n/a), Monday, May 21, 2012 9:22 AM (2 months ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Saw them again a week or so ago and they were great, though w/r/t to Thomson he seemed distracted and unapproachable before they played and the second they got done he was totally normal, easy to talk, etc.

They forgot to bring any merch though so I didn't get a single

the standard quality of the recording here betrays how awesome this band were last night: http://marychrist.bandcamp.com/album/mary-christ

they're on a US tour, go see em.

also, agreed with Izzy re the new Nu Sensae.

in the new MRR, they give it a totally substandard review, and i totally almost want to write a damn letter. eugh.

MRR gave a substandard review, how unusual

Went to Power of The Riff yesterday. Finally got to see this AWESOME San Francisco band called COPS. Members of XBXRX, Death Sentence: Panda!, and Total Shutdown among others. Gnarly as all hell hardcore with the occasional synth thrown in. You can find links to their songs by clicking on the pictures on their tumblr. http://nobodylikescops.tumblr.com/ . The other bands that played were really good too. Retox killed, Bio Crisis were really cool post-crust from Mexico, and I had never seen Noothgrush live, and they were WAY more awesome and energetic than I expected.

finally saw Hasps (2/3rds of Gay Beast), and they are amazing

Black Pus is online only right now by the looks? I would spring for a CD(R) cos he packages em nicely

I like that he tweets as http://twitter.com/AhaFan88

I would buy most of these records based on the band names alone

nate woolls, Thursday, 16 August 2012 09:53 (eleven years ago) link

lightning bolt's about to go on the road and have a new record coming out at the end of sept, so no physical copies of the new black pus, think he's just blowing off steam tbh

but he's got others in varying states of availability including one on load. that new one's pretty stupefying tho - "play god"!

vincent black shadow giallo (Edward III), Thursday, 16 August 2012 19:27 (eleven years ago) link

also, all recorded on a tascam cassette 4 trk

vincent black shadow giallo (Edward III), Thursday, 16 August 2012 19:32 (eleven years ago) link

it is bafflingly tricky to buy Load releases in the UK atm - they don't deal with any bedroom distros that I know of but they don't turn up in eg my local store either (and they used to)

there's probably some big online place that has em idk

it's-a me, irl (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 16 August 2012 19:55 (eleven years ago) link

are you in london? I know they switched distro's a while ago. amazon maybe? plus I think they take international orders on their website if you wanna order direct.

tomorrow? hasn't it been out for a while? i bought a copy off them live earlier in the summer, it's good but not as good as the debut

flopson, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 01:43 (eleven years ago) link

iirc it's getting released by a Euro label around now so maybe that's it? I did mean to buy it when that happened

it's-a me, irl (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 07:25 (eleven years ago) link

i'm in the band. the tour copies were 110 test presses that were done for tour because it wasn't ready in time.
these are the final copies.

it's out in europe on Hardware as of a few weeks ago.

child abuse killed it in pvd a couple weeks ago, hope they play a show w/ divorce if they come to the US, the flyer will look like a social services ad

great Nu Sensae show on friday at a squat in Oakland. Peace from Vancouver also played, killed it. their records sound kind of like Sonic Youth: http://peacevancouver.bandcamp.com/ . also, Straight Crimes (Erin from High Castle/Sister Fucker/Child Pornography with Brad from Huff Stuff Magazine) played and they're probably the best new Oakland band of 2012.

Any of you guys have/hear the new Guinea Worms? I loved the 2xlp from CDR last time, but am seriously curious how they have gotten since then.

Any love for Drunk In Hell here? Have knocked me sideways both times I've seen them, they might just be my favourite band in Britain.

yeah that's a nice little drunks with guns/flipper fixation they got there

space dokken (Edward III), Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:03 (eleven years ago) link

Looking at their gig history, they've played very few times outside of the North East. I think they're in Glasgow at the weekend?

passive-aggressive display name (aldo), Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:28 (eleven years ago) link

me and other ppl had some cloud talk going at the weekend about setting up a UK tour w/ them and other bands (specifically, ones featuring the participants) but idk if it would be that practical. they seem to genuinely not care about getting more widely known and have had a debut album planned for at least two years, plus a split single w/ Kilslug. but yeah they completely floor me

it's the Suede/Denim secret police/they have come for your 90s niece (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 25 October 2012 18:19 (eleven years ago) link

nu-kilslug still an unbelievable thing to me. played a show with them last year and they went 90 minutes, basically doing every song they knew because the crowd wouldn't let them stop. they also put out a pretty demented record this year, 11" red vinyl that plays from the inside out, in a hardcover leather sleeve embossed w/ gold lettering. the label's selling them at a loss, total labor of satanic love.

RIP pat dzieweczynski of TVBC, legendary underground band here in minneapolis, he was in the original 80s lineup alongside paul metzger and freddy votel (votel was later in the cows, now in skoal kodiak)....but they were amazing, still play sometimes w/different lineup...but definitely flew the flag for weirdo punk funk jazz post punk improv in the 80s

you can listen to their classic album Ex-Cathedra here:

I feel like a weasel asking this every year instead of keeping up with this thread, but are there any consensus best punk/emo/noise-rock/hardcore/post-hardcore albums I should be checking out this year before making my EOY list? I feel so out of the loop, and the recommendations I get here are always so good

hank wood & the hammerheads, fnu ronnies, and white load are probably my top 3 of the year
