nah the shed album is really good

he basically pulls this each time anyway - people who had been all over wax and eqd had the same reaction to the traveller, people who had been all over soloaction had the same reaction to shedding the past

i think as usual the production is amazing and the sound is super creative

* "with a close up of a speaker" as the album cover

Can't find a decent youtube, or a long enough sample but System of Survival's X-Pert (feat. Anna Gi) is a proper summer anthem.

where's that sample from? I forget.

It's someone singing a Whitney line, and I know which I'd rather hear on the dancefloor.

I prefer the underground mix.

no doubt

Several weeks on but I've only just realised that that record that seemingly every DJ was playing in Croatia was Julio Bashmore's Au Seve. First Bashmore I've really liked.

Amir is a talent, loads of great stuff on soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/amir-alexander

Good call on the underground mix above.

It's like a soothing acid bath, followed by a snooze in an acid blanket.

sounding good!! lol @ 'track david would play'

jabba hands, Thursday, 9 August 2012 11:48 (eleven years ago) link

So this Christian Loffler album is essentially a Pantha du Prince facsimile? At least is the impression I get 33% in, and, y'know looking at the cover/title/song titles. Not that I'm complaining, though!

so true. it actually reminds me of some of aphex twin's more low-key, melodic acid stuff.

^^ this popped to my head on a first listen too. especially that early stuff from 'classics' or 'SAW 85-92' where there was still a clear acid influence on some his tracks.

I think we had that one upthread, although it was cunningly hidden under a different name (rave/evar). Worth posting again though. My fave tune of the year so far.

neilasimpson, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 13:39 (eleven years ago) link

the Strip Steve album is pretty good, I was expecting a bunch of bangers like "Calcium" but it's more like funky disco loops

actually one drawback is that there's nothing that bangs as hard as "Calcium." but I like the album.

any thoughts about the controversial theo parrish's new track?

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 17 August 2012 06:07 (eleven years ago) link

Which one? The Running Back release? What's controversial about it (I'm not questioning you, I just haven't heard it)?

formerly EDB (ed.b), Friday, 17 August 2012 07:19 (eleven years ago) link

this?

mmmm, Friday, 17 August 2012 07:28 (eleven years ago) link

yes, that's the one. by controversial I mean most people seem to hate it.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 17 August 2012 07:38 (eleven years ago) link

Thoughts? It's a track based on Kung Fu movie samples. I think it's something that TP could get away with in a set, I can't imagine hearing anyone else playing it out. I guess it will sell because it's got his name on it.

mmmm, Friday, 17 August 2012 07:42 (eleven years ago) link

Okay, so here he is explaining it, go to 14 mins.

Would sound great on a big system in the right hands IMO.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 17 August 2012 09:25 (eleven years ago) link

So Nick Hoppner's Panoramabar mix is pretty excellent. If you've been waiting for another sequel to Daniel Bell's Button Down Mind mixes look no further.

formerly EDB (ed.b), Friday, 17 August 2012 14:51 (eleven years ago) link

a sequel to that sounds v good

coal, Friday, 17 August 2012 15:29 (eleven years ago) link

last track aside i dont know any of these records either!

coal, Friday, 17 August 2012 15:30 (eleven years ago) link

YouTube embeds on my iPad never show me the track name, but I like the dog barking one.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 17 August 2012 18:56 (eleven years ago) link

ah yes, I really enjoy panorama bar 04, too. really my kind of mix, no obvious peaks, just grooves along steadily from start to finish.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 17 August 2012 23:30 (eleven years ago) link

Recently upgraded system sounded sweet the last time I went to Corsica.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 29 August 2012 15:53 (eleven years ago) link

tief are really bringing it atm. just saw legowelt last weekend and jus-ed a while before that. both were great although the crowd's reluctance to dance during the ed night nearly ruined it. had to close my eyes and shut them out.

The very short bits of the track I heard while skimming didn't necessarily grab me; that said:
