WTF with Marc Maron (it's a podcast)

i really don't like glen wool but i have respect for his faith no more t-shirt

can someone explain to me why the Stewart Lee is rated so highly by Maron? I'm like 10 minutes from the end and it's mostly shoptalk (I've never seen Stewart Lee's act btw, is he any good?)

Lee is great, has a very unique delivery & pacing...youtube him, you won't be disappointed.

Maron made him "his guy" because of what he says about his change in philosophy when he quit & came back, the way he became empathetic to people who hated his comedy. Maron got a huge kick out of hearing that.

Also he is just a very easy example of something Maron just doesn't know anything about, in this case British comedy.

Maron has been doing a live show at the Steve Allen theater for a couple weeks in a row and I caught the last one tonight. I believe these shows were all to road test new material but his live act now - especially seeing it live - reminds me a lot of Jean Shepherd's style in how he changes his voice, references earlier bits of the show when you aren't expecting it, etc. Maybe Shepherd + Bogosian.

Jesus though, he can call up a stream of derisive contempt like a jet afterburner.

The Tony Millionaire interview was fantastic. I loved hearing him talk about Berlin in the 80s

Tenacious D interview was surprisingly great. I mean, I love those 2 anyway but they were cool

I loved when they were like, "name one song, Marc! one song! We'll play your favorite!"

I liked that KG was open about struggling with being the 'other guy'

Definitely humanized Jack too. Good all around.

that James Adominan interview was pretty disappointing. He's one of the funniest people to appear on the show yet, but Maron seemed disinterested until nearly the end.

I listened to it, but it's the first WTF ep I've listened to in a few weeks. I had to take a short break from Maron, but I thought it was an okay episode to come back to. I really don't know Adominan all that well, so every part of the interview was new information for me.

I fell off the WTF wagon for about a year and I'm in the process of catching up chronologically. Since I just listened to it, I wanted to mention that Steve Almond was pretty clearly someone who solicited Marc for an interview and who I started to actively dislike pretty quickly but that the discussion eventually turned around and became surprisingly interesting and involving. Just for those of you who (understandably) wrote that episode off without listening to the whole thing.

This Andrew W.K. episode is bad. And not good bad, but buncha shit bad.

ugh i tried to listen to an episode of this for the first time in a long time last week and immediately got pissed at maron again. it was the andy daly episode and he was doing the same thing of trying to force someone into a box (in this case, being a nerd) that they didn't really belong in and continually hammering at it despite the interviewee's protestations.

This Andrew W.K. episode is bad. And not good bad, but buncha shit bad.

I haven't started it yet, but the youtube teaser where they talk about "Bridge Over Troubled Water" had me nodding my head.

There are moments, and Andrew does his best, but Marc and musicians don't really mix.

OTM but the musician things seem more and more frequent now. I do have to kinda lol at Maron's timing with his recordings and how he always just seems to miss big events to talk about. Like interviewing Russell Brand just before the divorce and Aaron Freeman just before the whole Ween breaking up thing.

The Andy Daly interview was not great - I felt bad for Daly in that one

Maron needs to get over his hangups about nerds.

I thought the WK interview was pretty interesting--especially when he talking about the weird pranks he would pull

thought the Carrie Brownstein ep was terrible - hearing him talk about "lesbian punk" bands and bringing up the sexuality of S-K members in 2012 was pretty o_0

Would really like to hear the story from the viewpoint of the other Soul Coughing dudes, Doughty comes across as a huge douche and intensely unlikable dude.

Nah, the short of it: she made gobs of money via kickstarter for her most recent album ($1.2M) and now she's going on tour, but she'd rather recruit talented fans at each stop to comprise her band rather than pay professionals to tour with her. Also, there's quite a bit of discrepancy about how all the money she DID make via donations was actually spent.

Key & Peele were really funny. I've only watched that show once, but maybe I'll make a habit of it.
