Good to know; I keep wondering where to start with the post-Panzerfaust stuff

Clarke B., Saturday, 28 July 2012 02:52 (eleven years ago) link

also plaguewielder has the reputation as being the worst darkthrone record and i can see why b/c the production is clean as hell and the riffs are kind of distant and uninviting, but i don't know, i still think it's great!. "i, voidhanger"!

the underground resistance! "valkyrie"!

i'm sort of a dabbler with this band--i like transilvanian hunger and their last one, circle the wagons a bunch--but i'm really digging the new one! where should i go from here?

ta-nehisi goatse (fadanuf4erybody), Tuesday, 26 February 2013 04:42 (eleven years ago) link

Dark Thrones and Black Flags? A Blaze in the Northern Sky? Pretty much can't lose with the last couple and the first 3 black metal albums.

Oh shit, yeah, PANZERFAUST is really, really good.

Hope their next album's called The Drexciya btw.

Fenriz is typically super enthusiastic about UR in the new issue of Terrorizer fyi

"Darkthrone's one of those bands who routinely occupy that "this is the only band I want to listen to, everything else is bullshit" space."

except not routinely because I only just started listening to them. didn't expect I would like it so much tho

This time all the lyrics seem to be, again coincidentally, about Judgment, sans “Valkyrie,” which is a song to my woman.

i used to kinda hate listening to the frostland tapes (i mean, relative to their other stuff - it was still better than listening to, say, kokomo). these days it all i want to listen to, for some reason. i get really lost in it.

the correct answer to this q though is transilvanian hunger, though, obv, before anyone gets any ideas about what im saying here

Underground Resistance is such a fucking killer album. Fuck yes Darkthrone

wtf Under a Funeral Moon 0 votes

Dominique, Monday, 2 September 2013 01:54 (ten years ago) link

hate them & cult is alive got one apiece vs. 0 for the one that rivals transilvanian hunger so yes wtf/lol. I suspect those two votes were "I like the name of this one best" votes tho

combination hair (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 2 September 2013 02:12 (ten years ago) link

hate them and cult is alive are fine, but i refuse to believe they are anybody's favorite darkthrone album

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Monday, 2 September 2013 19:28 (ten years ago) link

enjoying the love that panzerfaust got though. on the right days that's my favorite darkthrone album

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 2 September 2013 19:35 (ten years ago) link

I had always assumed Blaze... was considered to be THE classic, wrongly I suppose

Neil S, Monday, 2 September 2013 19:39 (ten years ago) link

"Underground Resistance" is awesome, we were driving around the other day and "Leave No Cross Unturned" made the drive into something epic

the tune was space, Monday, 2 September 2013 19:40 (ten years ago) link

blaze is 2nd imo

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Monday, 2 September 2013 19:46 (ten years ago) link

I think Under a Funeral Moon, Blaze, and Transylvanian are my favs. the latter being the first I heard

Neanderthal, Monday, 2 September 2013 20:08 (ten years ago) link

Those are the three I know best, getting hold of Panzerfaust RIGHT NOW though!

Neil S, Monday, 2 September 2013 20:21 (ten years ago) link

Leave No Cross Unturned better end up in EOY tracks

Pingu Unchained (dog latin), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 07:51 (ten years ago) link

under a funeral moon > transilvanian hunger > a blaze in the northern sky (tho they stand really close to each other)

'ravishing grimness' comes next. guess i need to listen to 'panzerfaust' again. never really cared that much about that one.

rusty_allen, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 13:36 (ten years ago) link

Transilvanian hunger is mesmerizing

Treeship, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 13:38 (ten years ago) link

Never would have thought to listen to it if not for the first post itt, so thx

Treeship, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 13:41 (ten years ago) link

the title "Panzerfaust" is nagl

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 19:35 (ten years ago) link

yeah you'd think they'd have given flirting with that kind of thing a miss

Neil S, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 19:47 (ten years ago) link

well, lyrics by varg, ya know

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 19:58 (ten years ago) link

Panzerfausts were badass.

did you just link us to the wikipedia entry for Panzerfausts, just checking

Siegbran, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 06:45 (ten years ago) link

But I'm also happy to point you to Peter Panzerfaust.

Hero of the underground resistance.

Siegbran, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 11:37 (ten years ago) link

dude, we know what they are.

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 4 September 2013 12:21 (ten years ago) link

Sorry, it just sounded like you took offense at a reference to a piece of military hardware by a Metal band.

Siegbran, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 12:59 (ten years ago) link

you are misreading basically every input you have here

Øystein, Wednesday, 4 September 2013 17:51 (ten years ago) link

(Sorry, that has nothing to do with anything. Except Sodom. And Sodom probably has everything to do with everything. I take back my apology.)

Looking at Darkthrone on Spotify today (more or less tr00 than CDs? I dunno!) and found that some of the albums had new covers! Plaguewielder and Ravishing Grimness at least. No more old man haunting the woods. Those are incidentally the last two DT albums I've heard -- I should get up to date some day. I do vaguely recall having heard something off FOAD.

Under a Funeral Moon 0

No way. I'm starting to think that Under a Funeral Moon is just my favourite black metal album period. Such infernally catchy songs on that album.

F.O.A.D. deserves a vote too, if just the one

CANONICAL artists, etc., etc. (contenderizer), Monday, 16 December 2013 00:42 (ten years ago) link

entering this phase of fandom where I start to obsess on a band's lesser albums is as good a time as any to say that Goatlord is amazing. like a nerdy, home-recorded art-metal thesis. Ruins meets Sabbath, Darkthrone finding their way from death to black metal.

Fenriz on FB:
Darkthrone news anyone? it seems we will go to the necrohell 2 studios to record something for the upcoming album already 9 days from now a.k.a next weekend.

what time are they going 2 break 4 lunch

j., Thursday, 6 August 2015 14:58 (eight years ago) link

a.k.a. next weekend LOL

I always read Fenriz updates in the style of Propellerhead instructional videos or Amsterdam hostel workers. Yes, I know he's not Dutch.

Might look into recording a soft pop album at necrohell 2

whenever they want, I think necrohell 2 is just Fenriz's home studio
