Some other recent LPs...

Kooley C and DJ KJ - Out Time Has Come <<< awesome!
Simply Saucer - Cyborgs Revisited <<< finally
METAL MOO COW compilation with tracks by Fearless Iranians from Hell, Meat Joy, Offenders, Heather Leather
H.P. Lovecraft - At the Mountains of the Madness (twofer)
Damnation, The Damnation of Adam Blessing <<< near mint original promos for $10
Neil Merryweather - Space Raiders <<< ALWAYS BE YOU
Scorpions - Fly to the Rainbow <<< cool, but not quite Lonesome Crow
Blackfoot - Striker <<<< Cub Koda harmonica action
Grifters - One Sock Missing

From the jumble sale:
Fyyralyyra s/t <<<< pretty crazy Finnish medieval/jazz/Oriental/folk fusion thing from 1977
Flipper - Blow'n Chunks
Carla Bozulich - Evangelista
Cramps - Good Guys Don't Always Wear White/Five Years Ahead of My Time 7"

And I bought the Zerfas album for £8 in Ray's Jazz in Foyles. They had a bunch of psych stuff and other oddities for half price. Some Guerssen reissues. A Godz LP. Emitt Rhodes' American Dream. Even a K. Salvatore LP. And the shop has now moved upstairs and now occupies a much bigger space. They have tonnes of cheap second hand jazz records, actually. Loads of Woody Herman. Do I need a Woody Herman LP?? Are the earlier big band records better? They had his Light My Fire LP. I'm always up for new covers of Light My Fire.

huh what's this? old hip hop?

i sold 'one sock missing' years ago and regret it to this day. not an awesome album but sounds great from the first scratchy track.

re: grusin, i'll give it a go, my favourite is the soundtrack to that de niro/streep love film (remake of brief encounter) i think called 'falling in love'. but it was never released as a soundtrack so you have to sit through the film to get the music...

digging the howard jones tonight...

Old hip hop, yeah. From Miami, maybe?? There's a great creepy/ominous track called 'I'd Like to Get To Know You Better'

http://www.koolkeith.co.uk/btf/kjkooley.jpg

Actually... wow. I don't know how many links are working, but the site that image is from looks like it might have been some kind of hiphop download goldmine.

numero group info i got today in the mail:

NUMEROPHON VINYL ONLY IMPRINT

And for Vinyl fiends, Numerophon is an LP-only imprint focused on the rediscovery of primitive American and ethnic recordings. Impeccably designed, housed in thick jackets, and pressed on durable 150 gram vinyl, you'll know a Numerophon album when you see it, the same way you knew Folkways after that first thrift store find.

Culled from a warped acetate cut at Variety Recording Service in 1962, Numerophon's vinyl only, Songs Of Leaving is the complete songbook of New York folkie Niela Miller. A Bleeker & MacDougal scenester, Miller picked up the guitar after an encounter with Eric Weissberg, lent her Martin to Pete Seeger, and even had Dave Van Ronk cover "Mean World Blues." Her real claim to fame, however, is writing "Baby Don't Go To Town," a song that boyfriend Billy Roberts would steal and "rewrite" as "Hey Joe." You've heard Hendrix, Love, the Byrds, the Creation, Wilson Pickett and hundreds others do it, now hear the original for the first time.

vangelis - heaven and hell
jon hassell - aka darbari java/magic realism
andreas vollenweider - caverna magica
phantom slasher - skullvolley ep

all but the phantom slasher i picked up for ridiculously cheap on the bottom racks of the new age section at amoeba, which i had for some reason never previously explored

hey dmr, how much were the black cock records at dope jams? the one time i went there, everything seemed very overpriced.

also the Group Bombino record is great.

mizzell, Friday, 23 January 2009 14:00 (fifteen years ago) link

dope jams wanted $25 for a copy of Dylan's "Desire." :( wish i knew more about house or techno though, there's probably great stuff there.

also, they sell salvia and witch craft supplies

ian, Friday, 23 January 2009 14:52 (fifteen years ago) link

stuff seemed a little expensive but in the realm of normal imo

bombino was 25, the black cock reissues (they had 4 of em, I bought 2) were 15 each ... yeah pretty pricey for a 12" but I've seen em on mail order sites for 14 pounds british. normal domestic 12s were mostly 8.99

2009 Vinyl & CD Subscription
2008-12-02

Another year down the toilet of time. Birthdays, vacations, 401K related heart attacks, uppers, downers, failed blog attempts, boating injuries, bad sequels, traffic, hot water heater exploding at 3AM and you wake up five hours later to find your record collection destroyed, the whole McCain fiasco, and elevated cholesterol. We’ll be the first to admit that 2008 hasn’t been a great year all around. Sure, you were delighted six times when Numero appeared in your mailbox, but of course it was accompanied by jury duty notice, divorce papers, electricity disconnection threats, and your mother’s Christmas letter where she calls you out as a “rootless dreamer.”

Times are tough, which is why Numero has dropped its subscription price for 2009 and is giving you a 15% discount on all of our products across the board for the year. That means you’ll be able to keep up with Asterisk, and Numerophon releases, box sets (there will be at least one, possibly two in 2009), 45s, 12”s, LPs, t-shirts, posters, and any chachkis we dream up without fear of having to even enter your neighborhood record emporium. Also, for the first time ever and by popular demand, Numero is offering a vinyl subscription. The world said it was impossible, we said, “Where’s the bar?”

We know, we know, it’s exciting times in your kitchen right now, and you want further details on how you can keep this warm feeling going all year. Read below to sort out which option is for you, and how this confusing process can work for you.

2009 Numero CD subscription

Six single disc Numero releases (though admittedly, 026 is a CD & DVD and you’ll be getting it), 15% off coupon, and a membership card for $100 ($115 if you live overseas)

2009 Numero Vinyl Subscription

The next five Numero 2LP sets, 15% of coupon, and a membership card for $100 (Offer available in U.S. ONLY!!!)

About the coupon: Every Numero record that arrives in your mailbox will be accompanied by a complete list of Numero products. Simply select what you want, total it up, take 15% off, and send it in with a check or money order. Or, you can call and we’ll take your card details over the phone. These coupons are good from January 1st – December 31st 2009.

pigeons - virgin spectacle (black dirt records)

i heard something off this (something about glass?, maybe?) on fmu forever ago and always meant to follow it up (white glass?, maybe that was it), but the record was too expensive. is it great?

schlump, Monday, 26 January 2009 01:12 (fifteen years ago) link

it is totally great. we've got it at ac@demy. i don't think it's super expensive. around $20 maybe. you can listen before you buy. it's all sung in french, and half of it is really gorgeous rustic indie stuff and the other half is noisier, more chaotic stuff.

ian, Monday, 26 January 2009 03:25 (fifteen years ago) link

I love that Pigeons LP too. really nice stuff.

Hey rolling vinyl fans, anyone want to give me some advice?

I've started volunteering at Cancer Research, going through all their media section and some records popped up that I'm pretty certain will be worth quite a bit more than the £3 or whatever they sell for in the shop. These are records that caught my eye:

The Beta Bad - Champions Versions EP
The Beta Band - The Patty Patty Sound EP (the last of the three EPs wasn't there)
Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible (Picture Disc Version)
Radiohead - My Iron Lung (it was specifically numbered as if it was part of a limited amount or something, I dunno if that means anything)
And two Super Furry Animals 7" - Moog Droog EP and what I wrote down as 'Llanfairpwllgwyngetc.'

Any of them worth anything? Worth sticking on ebay or something? I told the manager to at least leave them out back for while I ask around, it seems it would be a waste if they went for a couple quid if they are worth a tenner plus. All for charity, and so on.

a hoy hoy, Monday, 26 January 2009 16:49 (fifteen years ago) link

(All in pretty good condition from first look, obviously not sealed but no scratches, no problems with the covers etc.)

a hoy hoy, Monday, 26 January 2009 16:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Llanfair EP is on sale for a fiver at Discogs; that surprised me slightly but there were probably a fair amount pressed and SFA have never been especially collectible anyway

Beta Band "Champion versions" went for £50 or thereabouts recently (cf: Popsike)

Mark G, Monday, 26 January 2009 17:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Great! And also, where should I sell these things? Ebay? Somewhere else? It seems a bit complicated given that it isn't for me, so I'm gonna go back and talk to them first about it all after I've done a bit of research.

a hoy hoy, Monday, 26 January 2009 17:48 (fifteen years ago) link

My guess is that eBay would have the biggest potential amount of ppl looking at it but Popsike would more likely attract more collector-y types who'd be more likely to pay what the record is actually worth?

that sounds good. i think i heard the rustic stuff; i still have a one minute clip off boomkat or something that went round and round despite being the least fulfilling way of listening to shitty quality music ever. talking of acadamie, am i totally too late to get the zola jesus stuff anywhere? hearing her on fmu reminded me i meant to buy one of the singles (maybe if one had rester on it).

maybe will pop in if you're getting the two new mississippis sometime?

schlump, Monday, 26 January 2009 18:23 (fifteen years ago) link

i think both zola jesus singles are gone gone, but there's at least one LP forthcoming. I'll let you know when we get the MS records in, as per usual.

spiritual singers reissue, and http://www.goner-records.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=4282 that, a last kind words sequel apparently.

last kind words is the blind spot in my first-wave MS comps. i have it, but i dont jam it all the time. maybe woke one morning... will bring me around to it! the spiritual singers LP is right up my alley, though. psyched to death for that one.

The Stephen O'Malley 12" turned out to be kind of disappointing. Really not as good as I had anticipated.

How does everyone feel about the Group Bombino record on Sublime Frequencies? As good as Group Inerane?
