If you mean me, I'm sorry. I don't mean to hurt anyone - I just hate that because I've suffered from mental health problems in the past that I get swept in with a particular group of over sharing dramatic whiners. I didn't mean to deny they aren't real problems.

I mean, I think that "people with mental health issues" is a pretty serious area where people are trying to address prejudice right now. From my experience, there's still a lot of general prejudice against people with mental health problems. I've only personally experienced comparatively small mental health problems myself, but know and love people with serious problems. I know that most people on ilx are progressive enough to not be all like "depressed people are just weak", but I still try to take it seriously.

No quantity of facebook memes will make me immune to the seriousness of the issue.

Like pretty much every day this year since April I've wondered if my very mentally ill dad has killed himself yet, and that fucks up my ability to carry on with my attempts at a normal life, and then I see that meme once a week on FB, and I think "oh fuck you."

Okay, that went completely over my head. Apologies for not realising it was a reference. I've just heard *that* sentiment a hell of a lot more in real life than the ham-fisted but at least supportive jpg it was mocking.

I forgot about yr dad, FFM. I also have mentally-ill, potentially suicidal relatives. But I think it's important for normal people to be able somehow to relate to crazy people. I have mental health issues, but I consider myself relatively normal, but I have to deal with so many crazy people in my day-to-day. And it's tough. But I do the best I can. And part of what makes it so tough for me is the other normal people who have very intense reactions to the ones who are fucked up.
