"We found a great rhythm," Matthew tells OK! about the delivery of baby Levi. "Contractions started kicking in. I sat there with her, right between her legs. We got tribal on it, we danced to it! I was DJ-ing this Brazilian music."

The Texas-born actor says he cut the umbilical cord in "one snip" and got to hold his son for the first 15 minutes while doctors worked on Camila. Both he and the Brazilian beauty -- who waited to know the sex of their baby -- say they were not surprised to find out they had a boy.

"I said, 'Come here, little man. I saw the pecker and screamed that we'd been right all along about him being a boy. Then I brought him over to her [Camila],' Matthew said.

is it wrong that I am imagining McConaughey trying to beatmatch "Bucky Done Gun" to his wife's contractions

I watched The Lincoln Lawyer last week and realized goddamn how much I miss mid nineties Grisham flicks. He's terrific in it.

which means: mainstream "adult" cinema is impoverished that TLL looks like Anatomy of a Murder.

i remember when i saw ides of march last year, there was this vibe in the theater of everyone being just relieved to watch a movie for adults after the summer of pain

Black_vegeta (Hungry4Ass), Sunday, 8 July 2012 02:47 (eleven years ago) link

Mr. McConaughey is well aware that there is a perception that he was coasting in those interchangeable romcoms; he maintains it was harder work than people think. “I’ve done romantic comedies that were more difficult than ‘Killer Joe,’ ” he said. “The work is to keep them buoyant. If you dig deep, you try to go to the reality and to the humanity, it’s a 12-minute movie.”

i buy this btw

I won't overrate Grisham adaptations if you and Matt don't overrate his romcoms

The Onion AV Club does a "Random Roles" with Patton Oswalt today, and this happens:

Failure To Launch (2006)—“Techie”
PO: Again, one scene. Me and Sarah Jessica Parker. She was a delight. I remember doing the table read with Matthew McConaughey before she was cast, and his dad was not played by Terry Bradshaw. It was Paul Dooley. He was the best. I said, “You are my favorite movie dad.” He was in Sixteen Candles and Breaking Away. And I think the mom was played by Kathy Bates, who was also amazing at the table read. Then McConaughey shows up in bike shorts and no shirt for the table read. I was sitting across from him, and I could see his right testicle.

AVC: He literally was shirtless for a table read?

PO: Yes. If I looked like that, I’d be shirtless, too. I think he showed up on his bike, so he legitimately had been out biking.

^He's really terrific in a pretty formulaic underdog/disease movie. And the gay liberal hysteria over it is quite boring.

I'm a guy who likes movies about people at work, and this one shows him going from Austin Brockovich to James Bond too quickly.

Maybe I was in the wrong mood, or maybe it's that the trailer sets you up for a different movie, but White Boy Rick seemed quite pointless to me. On the bright side, it's the first time since King of New York I've heard Schoolly-D at the movies (albeit at least a year off on a timeline).

the synopsis for his new one (SERENITY) is uh....

SPOILERS

The film takes place on a fishing island. Fisherman Baker Dill receives strange visions. Businessman Reid Miller is chasing after Baker with urgent news. Baker’s ex-wife Karen suddenly appears and tasks Baker with killing Frank, her abusive husband. Baker appears to have a telepathic connection with Patrick, the son he had with Karen, and through that decides to put aside his goal of catching a large tuna called “Justice” to help Karen and Patrick.

When Reid finds Baker, he explains he works as a fishing equipment company sales rep, and wants to give him a complimentary fish tracker. However Reid inadvertently reveals to Baker that he is a character in a video game Patrick is playing. The real Baker died during a war, and his son has reprogrammed a fishing video game to live out a fantasy of killing his abusive step-father. The digital Baker is communicating with Patrick through the game’s code. Digital Baker decides to follow his son’s wishes and kill the abusive step-father.

It turns out the scenes of Patrick playing the game were not flashbacks, but concurrent. Just after digital Baker kills the digital stepfather, Patrick picks up a knife to finally confront the real-life abusive step-father who has been beating his mother in the next room for years.
