those Before Watchmen comics

Yes, I am glaring at them on the counter and on the shelves and pretending that, yes.

I only picked up MINUTEMEN because of Darwyn Cooke's art. And it's nice, and there's some nice moments in it, helping to flesh out the characters. But honestly, I'd rather be reading something else he did.

I didn't think any of them have been particularly bad, but then DC have been steadily lowering my standards and/or expectations for nearly a year now.

I have read four. Two of them are dull in a "who gives a shit?" kind of way, viz, "Comedian" and "Silk Spectre". "Nite Owl" and "Minutemen" are actually somewhat entertaining.

Oh wait, I am just repeating myself.

a) there is less than no creative reason for these to exist
b) they're scabwork by cunts

I think the blanket opposition to the Before Watchmen comics is maybe a bit precious... it's not like Watchmen itself was conjured up ex nihilo from entirely original characters.

On the other hand, the Before Watchmen comics are not actually that good.

yeah good point, these are all very loosely based on the Watchmen characters, with absolutely no actual drawing from any plot elements from Watchmen at all, and not a single character name, series name, or overall branding using any Watchmen character names or the word "Watchmen." well spotted.

I actually quite liked the Rorschach one (although the line as a whole is still pointless).
