hold tight the private caller (mwah), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 02:46 (nineteen years ago) link

He's probably going to be The Lizard. They've already been setting up that character in throwaway lines in the first two movies.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 03:33 (nineteen years ago) link

If The Lizard ain't Dylan Baker, then I don't wanna be there.

Make him ... THE VULTURE!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 03:38 (nineteen years ago) link

Sandman or Kraven's cool, too.

OH FUCK VENOM PLEASE. THC (heh) looks more like Eddie Brock than any of the other villains mentioned on here anyway. I will only be happy if it's venom. Fuck this ancient history stuff.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 06:39 (nineteen years ago) link

oh wait shit, I don't mean "fuck venom", I mean "OH FUCK! Venom, please!"

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 06:40 (nineteen years ago) link

They'd have to figure out a different origin story for the symbiote (Getting into secret wars is obv. not happening), but that wouldn't be too hard.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 06:42 (nineteen years ago) link

Ah shit, I know it's not happening, but I still think it'd be rad.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 06:43 (nineteen years ago) link

For reals though it's going to be Mysterio and that makes me sad.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 06:50 (nineteen years ago) link

theres already a Dr. Connor or whatever his name is in the movie. He's his teacher who gives him shit at the beginning of 2 and he's in part 1 as well.

Yeah, tell it to Billy Dee Williams.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 09:37 (nineteen years ago) link

N_RQ, Wednesday, 23 March 2005 09:40 (nineteen years ago) link

What would Gyllenhal play, the Spider-Clone, Ben Reilly?

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 13:16 (nineteen years ago) link

it doesn't matter. you'd probably get a real reaction out of KD tho.

I admit I like the new promo poster. (And as the page it was posted on says, "You may think you’re looking at a black and white photo. Look closely, Spider-Man wears a black suit in Spider-Man 3.")

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 12 March 2006 16:10 (eighteen years ago) link

Meanwhile in rather older news, Church is Flint Marko and Topher Grace is in the film. And here's Church:

tremendoid (tremendoid), Sunday, 12 March 2006 20:36 (eighteen years ago) link

his black suit didn't have the web 'trim' in the comic, but that looks quite cool.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Sunday, 12 March 2006 20:40 (eighteen years ago) link

so hows that symbiote thing going to come down?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 12 March 2006 23:28 (eighteen years ago) link

so his new enemy will be the sandman then -

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Monday, 13 March 2006 12:03 (eighteen years ago) link

I plan to be entertained by the way in which they incorporate the Venom symbiote into the storyline without sending our Tobey off to the Secret Wars.

TOMBOT, Monday, 13 March 2006 13:36 (eighteen years ago) link

Are they going to use this tagline for the film? They should.

This has had generally bad reviews in the UK. I didn't really understand why, or at least, looking back, I can't understand why there was so much gushing over Spider-Man 2 compared with this.

Yes, it was too long, sagged in the midddle, and things like the butler revelation were lazy, but it was so likable. Maybe I've just been watching 24 too much, but to have some kind of optimistically liberal, New Testament Christian superhero morality tale was quite refreshing, even if Sandman's whole motivation was a bit all over the place.

Neither Tobey Maguire or Kirsten Dunst seem to be able to do crying very well, and the series never manages really get emotional depth out of their darker times.

i just really appreciated the fact that sam raimi decided to make the venom story just a really weird, convoluted cocaine metaphor.

After I saw it, I tentatively mentioned this to my cinemagoing companion, apologising if it was a really obvious thing that everyone had been saying, but umm.. yeah. I totally read it that way and I'd be surprised (but sort of pleased, in some kind of life having a deeper pattern behind it kind of way) if it wasn't intentional.

Did no one else notice how it kept flipping back and forth between the way Peter thought women were reacting to him (*swoon*) and the way they were REALLY reacting to him ("Who is this nerdy dancing cunt? lol")?

I certainly noticed the mixed response, but I put it down to different people having different reactions to coke-esque confidence, but yeah, you're probably right in your reading.

Alba, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 23:16 (sixteen years ago) link

I saw it more like...the ones that were reacting badly to him were just too far away to get a whiff of his spidey pheromones!

RJG, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 23:22 (sixteen years ago) link

An interesting take!

Alba, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 23:27 (sixteen years ago) link

BTWFWIW, for my money Tobey + EVIL floppy hair = hotter, but then I fancy annoying coked-up girls.

whaddaprick. is this because ILM didn't do the effects?

latebloomer, Thursday, 10 May 2007 07:09 (sixteen years ago) link

heh never mind, now i see why:

"Lucas, who was behind the smash-hit Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, said he was not impressed by the new sequel, which surged ahead of the director's 2005 film Revenge of the Sith to take the record for the biggest weekend box-office record."

latebloomer, Thursday, 10 May 2007 07:12 (sixteen years ago) link

talk about the nerd pot calling the nerd kettle black!

latebloomer, Thursday, 10 May 2007 07:25 (sixteen years ago) link

Sith did not have musical jazz interludes. This is why it sucked.

Roz, Thursday, 10 May 2007 07:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Plus, the scene where we first see Sandman >>>>>>> anything in the Star Wars prequels OR any of the Spidey movies.

three months pass...

I just watched this and I really liked it, but after reading this thread I can't remember why at all. Maybe it was cause I saw it right after the new Fantastic Four and it seemed so much better in comparison. Also it was great to see Toby Maguire channeling Jim Carrey. Somehow I think Karl Jung would just eat this movie up.

I had this in mind the whole time I was reading the thread too. FUCK YOU INTERNET.
