Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 26 June 2012 02:16 (eleven years ago) link

I'm "Jeff" on facebook.

Jeff, Tuesday, 26 June 2012 11:24 (eleven years ago) link

well that's just confusing

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 26 June 2012 15:23 (eleven years ago) link

Just search for Jeff. I'm the first and best result.

I'm a clip show.

So I mute Facebook friends who post overtly racist and homophobic stuff. This includes most, but by no means all, of the really noisy Republican crowd -- Facebook seems to have decided that I just don't want to hear any right wing US politics at all. All sorts of friends ranted about the health care decision as the end of liberty, and none of it showed up unless I went to the profiles. I don't like this, and wonder if Tea Party types are similarly being put by Facebook into endless feedback loops.

"the"

of family bonds and individual triumph. Narrated by Tim Allen, (zachlyon), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 03:06 (eleven years ago) link

one month passes...

Getting mighty fed up with friends & even worse friends of friends tagging themselves and all their friends in pictures of their kids, that don't even have these people in the picture. My news feed is full of pictures of random children of people I don't even know. People are going to get suspicious about me.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 17 August 2012 08:06 (eleven years ago) link

lol mid 30s I guess

Colonel Poo, Friday, 17 August 2012 08:08 (eleven years ago) link

Ive never understood why people do that. They can see your feed! They will see the photo anyway!

Pureed Moods (Trayce), Friday, 17 August 2012 08:39 (eleven years ago) link

I don't get that either. I guess people and relatives get tagged in those baby pictures so that they're alerted to see it? It's still annoying.

I also really don't get people who have nothing but pictures of their children in their profile and none of themselves. Seems a bit

to me.

Sometimes I tag my Grandma and Aunt in pictures of my dog, but that's because they're not on FB daily/not great with computers. Grandma pretty much only comments on dog photos, she loves that guy.

PART OF THE PROBLEM

your native bacon (mh), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:18 (eleven years ago) link

what's the big deal? ilxers in inconsequential complaining shocker

Mordy, Friday, 17 August 2012 15:20 (eleven years ago) link

gonna tag MH in everything
why you wanna deny my Grandma cute dog pictures?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:21 (eleven years ago) link

worst behavior imaginable

mwahaha

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:26 (eleven years ago) link

if you want to insult your grandmother you could do something other than claim a dog is her on facebook

your native bacon (mh), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:31 (eleven years ago) link

Mine is more in the comments: Hey @Ruth etc. I just checked her photos to see if I have claimed she is a dog and it seems I've done it twice over the last two years. But I STILL give her less grief than the rest of our family, so I still win.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:33 (eleven years ago) link

oh, Finefinemusic, now I just know that not only will you keep responding to ridiculous trolling, you can be pushed to action by it

your native bacon (mh), Friday, 17 August 2012 15:41 (eleven years ago) link

Eh, I post a lot of pet photos & added you to tagging.xls ;)

how can you either a) prevent certain people from sending you facebook event invitations or b) stop getting notifications every time someone updates one of their stupid events?

fucking promoters are the worst

lex pretend, Saturday, 25 August 2012 10:58 (eleven years ago) link

I have been wondering this too.

Alba, Saturday, 25 August 2012 11:17 (eleven years ago) link

Block them, I guess?

frances boredom coconut (Trayce), Saturday, 25 August 2012 11:27 (eleven years ago) link

go to their page, click on the friends button, untick things

Crackle Box, Saturday, 25 August 2012 13:13 (eleven years ago) link

a) prevent certain people from sending you facebook event invitations

When you decline an invitation it gives you the option to block all event invites from the person.

b) stop getting notifications every time someone updates one of their stupid events?

If you respond to the invite - whether it's to accept, say maybe, or decline - you get an option to turn off notifications. It is annoying that you can't leave the invitation hanging before turning them off, but I guess if you're undecided you can always say maybe.

anyone else notice a sudden spike in the amount of posts from fan pages showing up in your feed?

i guess i need to start manicuring my feed :-\

○ (gr8080), Wednesday, 29 August 2012 23:48 (eleven years ago) link

I'm also getting a hell of a lot of sponsored page recommends showing up in my feed now, like "you should like this page!" shit about stuff I have no interest in, effectively like advertising smack in the middle of my feed. AND, now FB has started informing me of all the game apps my friends play, in a big wodge. That I cant hide. Despite having blocked and hidden every damn game app the site ever came out with.

frances boredom coconut (Trayce), Wednesday, 29 August 2012 23:55 (eleven years ago) link

big wodge?

○ (gr8080), Thursday, 30 August 2012 00:01 (eleven years ago) link

Mordy, Thursday, 30 August 2012 00:56 (eleven years ago) link

all the lol liking of stupid pages that went on a bit a while ago is now backfiring as those damn pages are appearing in the iPhone app all the time as sponsored links. "Your friends like this bank! Want to like it?"

stet, Thursday, 30 August 2012 08:34 (eleven years ago) link

otm.

i know the whole deal is that facebook gets to change their shit up once or twice a year whether ppl like it or not, but this is p jarring.

OTOH photo albums look great now, despite being a little glitchy while i was uploading last nite (a few photos ended up in the wrong order when i first uploaded)

○ (gr8080), Thursday, 30 August 2012 21:28 (eleven years ago) link

yeah photo albums is def improved

zachylon (zachlyon), Tuesday, 25 September 2012 00:36 (eleven years ago) link

It doesn't say whether his page/the comments were public... quite an important distinction in cases like this I would've thought?
