I'm starting to think the Ty Segall Band's "Slaughterhouse" is Segall's best album yet.

Agree? Disagree?

Unsure? Then hear it (thanks Whiney): http://www.spin.com/articles/hear-ty-segall-bands-gnarly-full-slaughterhouse

Shit shit shi; I really want to stream this, but every time I click on the link (or any link to Spin's website), I get redirected to the Spin homepage. Does anybody know how to work around this?

Evan R, Monday, 25 June 2012 18:52 (eleven years ago) link

After a few spins I think it is equal to his best albums which is high praise. Although Tell Me What's Inside Your Heart and Wave Goodbye sound like two of his best ever songs. I will probably have changed my mind by next week and consider it his best album!

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Monday, 25 June 2012 19:09 (eleven years ago) link

same thing happens to me but if you are using firefox apparently it works better on different browsers, also if you follow links within spin website rather than going straight fom external link you won't get constantly redirected i think

damn, slaughterhouse rocks! this dude is going to be huge, isn't he?

tylerw, Thursday, 28 June 2012 19:53 (eleven years ago) link

I don't think dudes get to be huge anymore.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 28 June 2012 19:55 (eleven years ago) link

my waistline begs to differ. slaughterhouse is amazing though.

contenderizer, Thursday, 28 June 2012 19:56 (eleven years ago) link

what i mean is: this dude is totally going to be selling out 300-seat venues soon, isn't he?!

tylerw, Thursday, 28 June 2012 19:57 (eleven years ago) link

somewhere between de stijl and white blood cells huge

contenderizer, Thursday, 28 June 2012 19:59 (eleven years ago) link

he's def not going to have to do his one man band shit anymore

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Thursday, 28 June 2012 20:00 (eleven years ago) link

think this dude could def be huge

carly rae (flopson), Thursday, 28 June 2012 20:06 (eleven years ago) link

he's going to save rock n roll

tylerw, Thursday, 28 June 2012 20:06 (eleven years ago) link

plus he cute

contenderizer, Thursday, 28 June 2012 20:07 (eleven years ago) link

really excited to hear the new one, "hair" was super dope

the late great, Thursday, 28 June 2012 20:34 (eleven years ago) link

I'm starting to think the Ty Segall Band's "Slaughterhouse" is Segall's best album yet.

still think "Melted" is the best but that was pretty awesome (just listened to the Spin stream)

I wanted to buy "Hair" yesterday but Other Music didn't have it

dmr, Thursday, 28 June 2012 21:22 (eleven years ago) link

I'd love to see this dude blow up, I think he should at least be able to get to Jay Reatard levels. Which isn't huge huge, but not too shabby for a garage rock dude.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 28 June 2012 21:43 (eleven years ago) link

kind of surprised he isn't there yet, tbh

contenderizer, Thursday, 28 June 2012 21:56 (eleven years ago) link

jay reatard levels?

the late great, Thursday, 28 June 2012 23:51 (eleven years ago) link

I would say he is currently at least as big as, or about to be. I don't remember Jay Reatard packing Webster Hall

dmr, Friday, 29 June 2012 00:20 (eleven years ago) link

let's hope he won't get huge, cause it will probably make his music worse as it almost always does.
plus, the "one man band" thing is one of the major reasons his records are good.
in short, things should stay as they are imo.

nostormo, Friday, 29 June 2012 18:35 (eleven years ago) link

ty segall is bigger than jay reatard ever was when he was alive

carly rae (flopson), Friday, 29 June 2012 18:41 (eleven years ago) link

and better

nostormo, Friday, 29 June 2012 18:41 (eleven years ago) link

rly? last couple times i saw jay, the audience was huge and super dedicated, including pretty broad cross-section of scenes and peoples. have only seen ty play smaller joints to a more homogenous group of hipster indie-punk types.

contenderizer, Friday, 29 June 2012 18:43 (eleven years ago) link

that would be a hard poll

re: popularity like stuff isn't challenging at all & his greatest pop moments are pretty easy to imagine being enjoyed by anyone who likes pop rock

carly rae (flopson), Friday, 29 June 2012 18:44 (eleven years ago) link

some narcissism of small difference in my last post, cuz the "pretty broad cross section" i'm talking about just means different stripes of punks and rockers

contenderizer, Friday, 29 June 2012 18:44 (eleven years ago) link

yeah obviously this anecdotal sample is not perfectly representative & are really dependent on time & locale. you said you haven't seen him in a while, he really blew up in the past year, the show here was at a modest sized-venue but it sold out and huge crowds were denied, played huge show in nyc, pitchfork best new music, etc

carly rae (flopson), Friday, 29 June 2012 18:49 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, i haven't seen ty recently, and his profile's obviously risen since i last did

contenderizer, Friday, 29 June 2012 18:53 (eleven years ago) link

facebook tells me ty segall is three times as famous as jay reatard

the late great, Saturday, 30 June 2012 01:34 (eleven years ago) link

this is comfortably not his best record, but it's still really good

carly rae (flopson), Friday, 6 July 2012 19:43 (eleven years ago) link

ok sorry this is insanely good

carly rae (flopson), Tuesday, 10 July 2012 16:24 (eleven years ago) link

drag city sent out a release today about his OTHER record "Twins" that's coming out. that is a lotta material.

really psyched for his tour with the Oh Sees in the fall. playing in September in NYC at the new Bushwick venue that my friend is working on (The Well).

dmr, Tuesday, 10 July 2012 17:08 (eleven years ago) link

That does sound like fun. Probably can't count on a Mid-MO show.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 10 July 2012 18:18 (eleven years ago) link

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 25 July 2012 20:39 (eleven years ago) link

I picked up "Slaughterhouse" and "Hair" (the one w/ White Fence) on the same day but haven't gotten around to "Hair" yet. So I've still got that to look forward to.

dmr, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 21:01 (eleven years ago) link

dig slaughterhouse, but there isn't much to it, imo. it's a 30 minute mini-album consisting of five real top-shelf keepers that run just over 16 minutes: "death", "bought my eyes", "the tongue", "inside your heart" and "oh mary". those are padded out with three serviceable but hardly memorable garage stompers and a couple of truly crappy covers, all of which take up another 13 minutes or so.

oh yeah, and a lifeless noise dirge that adds nothing but running time and gives the dirtbombs' "race to the bottom" a run for it's no money.

contenderizer, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 21:29 (eleven years ago) link

not to say that it's a bad record, just that it feels a little slight

contenderizer, Wednesday, 25 July 2012 21:30 (eleven years ago) link

is Wave Goodbye a cover? that's one of the best tracks on the album.

Diddy Wah Diddy and Fuzz War are the only weak spots imo.

dmr, Thursday, 26 July 2012 14:52 (eleven years ago) link

no, wave goodbye is an original. the other cover is "the bag i'm in".

contenderizer, Thursday, 26 July 2012 16:36 (eleven years ago) link

But "Wave Goodbye" is such a good tune!

Walter Galt, Thursday, 26 July 2012 16:58 (eleven years ago) link

yeah it's great. that's what confused me, lumping that one in as "serviceable but hardly memorable"

dmr, Thursday, 26 July 2012 17:05 (eleven years ago) link

i guess i just mean that it doesn't floor me. not at all bad, but a bit generic in relation to the five i mentioned earlier.

contenderizer, Thursday, 26 July 2012 17:10 (eleven years ago) link

and maybe i'm alone in being a bit indifferent to it
