I know! The title SPECIFICALLY says GIRLS.

what does it say abt me that i thought adam sounded nuts & controlling in this ep & that hannah wd be right to tell him 2 take a long walk / short pier

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 18:08 (eleven years ago) link

I don't think you're wrong. He has a point about her chasing him like he was the Beatles, but it's a huge 180 from the lonewolfishness that informed the bulk of their relationshiop early on, even if he's not that way so much now.

honestly I think she'd be cool with it if it was her idea, or if he hadn't said it out loud to her face in the moment. you know? I think it's just that she wants more control over the decision, somehow. shrug.

but honestly he's a cool guy, he's real with her and her hanging onto her normal way of life is kind of lol since that's really not working out that well for her anyway.

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 18:27 (eleven years ago) link

alllll of that being said, I get her too. I'd probably be similarly weirded out, even if part of me did want him to move in.

oy I'm overthinking now, I'll shut up.

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 18:28 (eleven years ago) link

loved this show. bring on s2.

Sisig Steve (stevie), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 22:16 (eleven years ago) link

finale was probably the funniest of the season for me, show definitely got better overall as it went on, although i'm not really fully on board.

here's my lumber, so jack me maybe (some dude), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 22:18 (eleven years ago) link

Adam is not very good at gently introducing concepts to people, this is on the same level as his tantrum over the play, and Hannah is not very good at assessing other people's lives and the impact of her self-regard upon them, they'll be fine if they talk to each other calmly the next day.

Cringed at Lena writing Hannah being told what a good person and great writer she is, but loved everything else this episode. Hope Chris O'Dowd can take accent classes before he shows up next season though.

the hat's filthy lesson (sic), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 00:53 (eleven years ago) link

yeah his American is p. uncanny

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 01:09 (eleven years ago) link

why didn't they just get him to do his own accent? there's no reason he couldn't be a high flying irish wall street broker or whatever the hell he's supposed to be,

jed_, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 01:34 (eleven years ago) link

something about the accent though makes his character more awkward and try-hard-y, like I don't know if I'd believe it as much if he had his natural accent because I like him so much irl?

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 01:45 (eleven years ago) link

I mean, it's a bad fake accent...but everything about him is kinda facepalm so it feels like it fits in a weird way

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 01:46 (eleven years ago) link

Cringed at Lena writing Hannah being told what a good person and great writer she is

seriously tho -- also hated the 1 billionth recent iteration of 'person standing in the street suddenly gets struck by vehicle,' even if they halfheartedly subverted it by it being only a minor injury.

but otherwise, good episode. loved bobby moynihan being surprisingly charming and getting the girl.

here's my lumber, so jack me maybe (some dude), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 01:47 (eleven years ago) link

the whole exchange while Marnie was eating the cake was really kinda cute as hell

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 01:48 (eleven years ago) link

yeah allowing her to have a moment like that was a great payoff for that character, especially after that other encounter with a dorky SNL guy that ended in feverish masturbation

here's my lumber, so jack me maybe (some dude), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 01:52 (eleven years ago) link

was this episode one big dream

༼◍ྀ ౪ ◍ི ༽ (cozen), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 16:42 (eleven years ago) link

you're one big dream.

jed_, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 16:44 (eleven years ago) link

xp maybe? i was thinking about why character continuity matters so much to me on some shows (Breaking Bad, Mad Men) and not on others (Justified, Louis, GIRLS) and I realized it has nothing to do with caring about the characters, it's more about the intent. GIRLS is an excuse for Dunham to explore/exploit her "world of young people" so if characters go drastically off book, I don't care as long as it stays interesting and funny.

my roommate thinks that adam will not be in s2! (or if so, not featured prominently/as hannah's love interest) i hadn't even considered this but his argument was pretty convincing, and now i kind of expect it, too. what do you think? is there any official word?

carly rae (flopson), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 16:48 (eleven years ago) link

marnie with face covered in cake was the hottest she's ever been.

(i think adam actor was talking about doing recording for season 2 in that interview upthread? maybe?)

Merdeyeux, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 16:52 (eleven years ago) link

yeh I was wondering about Adam for S2 too

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 16:53 (eleven years ago) link

also i don't think this all seemed nearly as implausible as many others seem to! jessa is spontaneous, big surprise, and marnie (perhaps a bit less likely) gets a bit caught up in jessa's exciting spontaneity. fine!

Merdeyeux, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 16:56 (eleven years ago) link

I buy Marnie sleeping with the "dork" way more than I buy Jessa marrying guy. Marnie was drunk and that guy made her laugh. Sometimes that's all it takes. That guy was such a complete tool in the threesome ep that I find it hard to believe that Jessa has fallen in love with him somehow since then. I don't doubt that she'd marry someone she barely knew. I just have a tough time believing it of him in particular.

it's all because of her misinterpretation of that talk about growing up and making something of your life weed dad's wife gave her!

carly rae (flopson), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:09 (eleven years ago) link

possibly also she plans to exploit his propensity for business travel to fund her nomadic lifestyle, there was some intimation of that in her vows

"the more I learned about your life of finance and travel…"

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:10 (eleven years ago) link

x-post - hmmmmmmmmm

Yeah, I did think about the money aspect. He was just SO unbearable the last time we saw him that it made it difficult for me to swallow.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:11 (eleven years ago) link

def saw it as a move on her part to try the high life for a few years, subconsciously or otherwise

paralleled by Elijah's "he's rich as fuck!" abt his boyfriend

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:14 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, yeah. Maybe it's just me. NO AMOUNT OF MONEY.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:15 (eleven years ago) link

well and there were a couple of beats where you could see her make an awkward pained face so she def is either playing some kind of long game with him or is just throwing her chips up in the air to, idk spite weed dad's wife or something equally silly

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:17 (eleven years ago) link

So she is smoteable.

x-post - Yeah, there were. There were a couple times where she pulled faces and I thought she was going to be like, "Just kidding!".

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:21 (eleven years ago) link

people marrying people they don't really like for their money is a pretty honest and forthright thing to say about new york and young people in new york, actually.

s.clover, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:22 (eleven years ago) link

It's not un-Jessa-like, it's just somewhat shoddy writing for her to go from the 'outta-here' threesome to marriage w/nothing in between.

Love Max Ophüls of us all (Michael White), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:22 (eleven years ago) link

Yes and with someone that awful. I practically had to watch him deliver his lines through my fingers in the threesome ep. For whatever reason I guess he just really rubbed me the wrong way.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:24 (eleven years ago) link

he is the worst!

carly rae (flopson), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:26 (eleven years ago) link

remember two months ago when we all thought adam was the worst?

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:26 (eleven years ago) link

I never really thought he was the worst at all.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:30 (eleven years ago) link

But I realize a lot of people did.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:31 (eleven years ago) link

heh I did, the sexual weirdness and especially stuff he said about her body in the first couple episodes made me really not like him

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:32 (eleven years ago) link

you can tell venture capitalist is really the worst though because of how badly he comes off in even the most banal moments; remember cringing while he like, cut the wedding cake

carly rae (flopson), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:34 (eleven years ago) link

lol yes

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:38 (eleven years ago) link

Their attempts to out self-absorb each other should be funny.

also he has two first names, ew, "Thomas John"

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:39 (eleven years ago) link

xp i still don't really like adam...

rayuela, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:42 (eleven years ago) link

I didn't like *any* of the guys in the show for the first 2 or 3 episodes. Now I'm like 'awww you guys <3!' lol

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 17:54 (eleven years ago) link

really liked the gawker recap again, just as a thing to read.
