jealous

Impetuous hybrid (Matt P), Saturday, 16 June 2012 20:51 (eleven years ago) link

i would totally be jealous if someone had come in my store and said look what i got at the library book sale! cuz its not usually that exciting. and me being me i can't help but think about what people DID buy before i got there. but maybe there were just no mod classical or jazz fans around cuz i can't believe they would have left some of these sitting there.

I know there's a couple others but they are not at my disposal just now. Still getting through this stuff.

No! I own nothing by them. But I'd figure they'd probably be up my alley too.

After two or three listens, though, that Curtiss A album is pretty much a snooze. I'll give it one more try.

Blotto seem like an EP-sized band to me (haven't listened yet), though I guess I should hear their bar-band and metal parodies someday.

Amazed that you, of all people, didn't already have Nashville! (Unless you got rid of it somewhere along the line, or you now have multiple copies.)

What's on Cash Cows? That sounds familiar.

xhuxk, Sunday, 14 October 2012 20:43 (eleven years ago) link

Never owned it--I used to pass up $1 copies in the early '80s (inexplicable, but I just didn't buy soundtracks), and I've often thought about how stupid that was. Cash Cows is Virgin stuff circa '80: XTC, Human League, Captain Beefheart, Flying Lizards, etc. The country compilation is the kind of traditional stuff I like: Ferlin Husky, Webb Pierce, Hank Locklin, Patsy Cline, etc.

clemenza, Sunday, 14 October 2012 20:50 (eleven years ago) link

I've already got a couple Grin LPs though (including 1+1, which has that song on it); it was Lofgren's early solo career I wanted to catch up with -- like his 1977 double-live album and 1979 self-titled LP quite a bit. As for Talley, I have a 2006 "30th Anniversary" CD reissue of Got No Bread, No Milk, No Money..., and to be honest it's never done much for me at all -- Never figured out why Christgau descibed it as "Western Swing"; just seemed mostly like drab folkie proto-alt-country or something. Hung onto it, though, figuring maybe I'd grow into it someday. Decided to take a shot on the other one by him Xgau liked, which I don't think I'd ever seen a copy of before yesterday.
