yeah it is fucking crazy out. whole state is on fire (in some places literally).

omg just remembered my 6 and 8 y/o are going to bandimere speedway dragstrip as a summer camp field trip today. wonder if it will be hot at high noon/104 deg/70 acres of blacktop. gonna have to pick them up using a spatula.

wow yeah, that is going to be intense today. hope they hydrate!

this thread is just turning into me plugging gigs, but ... bizarrely we're playing from 8-10 tonight at the Southwest Rink at Skyline Park. You know, the free ice skating rink on the 16th Street Mall. It is going to be weird!

this sunday! 1st show w/ my new band, forces at work. playing w/ a ridiculous bill - new bums (donovan quinn, ben chasny), and the mighty howling hex (poster to the contrary we go on first)! we pretty much started the band so that we could open for the hex, so we might break up after this.

surely by now denver's population has grown with more ilxors?

denver has become much more populated, tons of "PROGRESS', the dumpster pic above from 2005 was taken in a neighborhood that is now very trendy and hip, and is coincidentally a block away from my office.

The dry weather last week was the calm before the storm.

A lot of water is expected to fall from the sky over the weekend, especially over the Central USA.

Some areas could see feet of snow. Some could see flooding.

On edge as my sister and her family live in Lafayette ... seems like they're too far north to be in danger, but still, damn.

I assume/hope your sister's house survived, Eric (and your sister and her fam, obvs.) The fire came within half a mile of my mom's house (she lives in Louisville) before the wind died down and the snow started.

I am sorry I missed the show at Tyler's house. I could have stayed with my sister.

Hah, no, I was just feeling a little homesick today, even though I've been away for more than 30 years. I really am curious as to what happened with Eric's sister's house. I guess more than 1000 homes were lost in that fire. Prices in the Boulder exurbs are out of control.

yeah they really are — i definitely couldn't afford it these days, glad I got here when I did.

When I was in school at Boulder in the mid- to late 80s, Longmont was a cow town, where a few students chose to or had to live. It's been completely transformed.

Same for downtown Denver, although it's still got the feel of a small city.

checkin out prairiewolf. nice. a few blocks from the venue above is tennysons tap-- tyler did you ever check dead comets when they had their regular sessions there, pre covid? seems adjacent.

Oops, never did follow through there, but my sisters house made it fine. They were basically a block away from the evac zone, and houses as nearby as a mile did go up, but their house was safe, and they donated a bunch of clothes and toys to families who lost everything

a crazy / awful event — still seems kind of unreal. it's been a fairly mellow year out here (knocks on wood) so far in regards to wildfires.

haven't heard of dead comets! but they do seem adjacent ... there are some decent musical things going on in denver and the surrounding area.
