ep 2 was the best of the season by a lot imo
these last 2 eps have been bad
i think id prefer if it cared less abt character arcs & had less thru-plotlines

I usually don't do this but I'm gonna have to drop a "rong" on this

Didn't like the first 2 eps much tbh, and this last one was just OK. Rest has been good-to-great.

Simon H., Tuesday, 12 June 2012 01:31 (eleven years ago) link

eh im willing to concede it's more on me y i didnt like them but..

the rich dude freak out was really cloying
adam's street art apology thing @ the end was so rank

adam's getting the mayo was maybe a high pt in the latest ep cuz they let it be a subtle thing!

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 01:41 (eleven years ago) link

something about the editing & pacing of the roommate argument scene reminded me of this

"Adam getting the mayo from the fridge and saying not to disturbe him for ten minutes"

And the mayo still being on Hannah's nightstand when he was doing pushups!

I kind of hated the opening scene with the girl getting the book published. Something rlly backbitingly ugh, ny publishing, about the whole thing. Makes me never want to live in ny. So catty and gross

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 15:40 (eleven years ago) link

this episode felt a little schematic to me in terms of hannah, marnie and jessa all having classic twentysomething time to grow up moments, but the show is at least right about those moments. also exchange between hannah and jerky guy about the triviality of her work was note-perfect.

also christopher moltisanti!!!

i don't know; the part about being unable to help being a wench to someone whose professional success you envy rang true, not just to ny publishing. at least hannah copped to it later in the episode.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:12 (eleven years ago) link

thought this ep was a bit too transparently setting up conflicts to be resolved in the finale, not that it was poorly executed but imo it lacked lighter moments & felt a bit rushed or heavy

flopson, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:13 (eleven years ago) link

i feel like one of the things dunham is interested in is anatomizing "cattiness."

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:14 (eleven years ago) link

xp yeah there were definitely less laughs than average in this episode

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:14 (eleven years ago) link

my fav part of the episode was jessa's intrigue at weed dad's wife's description of her dreams in which she murders and eats her

I LOVE THAT GUY SO MUCH

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:17 (eleven years ago) link

he is a genius of getting under my skin. loved his trite monologue of worthy subjects for writing, culminating in death of course.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:18 (eleven years ago) link

ya that was amazing

flopson, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:18 (eleven years ago) link

have had a version of that conversation with a dude, more than once

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:19 (eleven years ago) link

I know this probably goes without saying but I think it's so important and amazing and brave of LD for showing herself as she is in nude scenes. Every single time that happens I'm surprised and hankful for her for doing this. In an ideal world that wouldn't be so remarkable but it is and it's awesome.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:19 (eleven years ago) link

x-post - I still haven't watched TF but I know he's in it a lot and I should really get on that because he cracks me up in every scene he's in.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:20 (eleven years ago) link

may have yelled at my tv during that scene

"racial profiling" THE FUCK DO YOU KNOW ABOUT IT, ASSHOLE

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:20 (eleven years ago) link

lena dunham's use of her body on this show and in tiny furniture is an amazing thing

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:21 (eleven years ago) link

Even if I didn't love this show for a whole host of other reasons it would still be important for that alone imo.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:22 (eleven years ago) link

lol that you associate this with ny, it's publishing

i thought this was a good ep fwiw, i just found myself grossed out at the entire thing, and the way the boyfriend's suicide was turned into a punchline, like i 'get' the idea of disliking someone you're envious of in anything but the show def treated her target w/ condescension instead of making her at least somewhat sympathetic, it was like, well yeah but her shit is garbage

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:42 (eleven years ago) link

oops i meant the 'entire thing at the beginning' not the entire thing like the entire episode

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:42 (eleven years ago) link

forks getting defensive on behalf of ny. thats a second city attitude lol

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:43 (eleven years ago) link

i feel like the boyfriend's death was only turned into a punchline to make hannah and jessa look like assholes for talking about it that way.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:43 (eleven years ago) link

yeah but isnt the writer kind of flippant about it too?

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:47 (eleven years ago) link

scene between her and hannah made me laugh in the way lucille one and lucille two on arrested development make me laugh, tbh

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:47 (eleven years ago) link

i guess b/c of the realism of the dialogue in this show it just pushed it too far into arrested devel. territory for me, like i wish theyd made her character not entirely negative

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:48 (eleven years ago) link

she doesn't joke about it and she kind of pauses when hannah blatantly brags about how her boyfriend is alive, but i guess she lacks the demeanor of a bereaved person. the show definitely does not fully characterize her, but i found her little dig at hannah's writing to ring pretty true.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:49 (eleven years ago) link

but Marnie said her stuff was good. Maybe that's another negative though

Number None, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:50 (eleven years ago) link

forks getting defensive on behalf of ny.

trust me when i tell you there's no need.

“Argh!” I cry. But I really don’t care. (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:51 (eleven years ago) link

def thought it was kind of inappropriate for professor christopher moltisanti to tell hannah that he didn't think the other girl was a good writer. i guess he's not her teacher anymore, but still.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:54 (eleven years ago) link

i forget, they were both students of his? that's a bit weird yeah

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 16:59 (eleven years ago) link

my understanding was that they were, but i don't know if that was ever explicit

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 17:01 (eleven years ago) link

naw it was sweet

flopson, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 17:02 (eleven years ago) link

i mean, sweet for hannah haha

flopson, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 17:02 (eleven years ago) link

unethical imo

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 17:02 (eleven years ago) link

also totally rang true; teachers do that kind of thing all the time

horseshoe, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 17:03 (eleven years ago) link

hah, yeah

one of my favorite professors (whom i still keep in touch with) actually does that a lot

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 17:04 (eleven years ago) link

I liked the way Marnie really passive-aggressively put down the "hoarders" story and the ambiguous nature of how much she didn't like or how much she's just pissed off at Hannah.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 17:17 (eleven years ago) link

loved his trite monologue of worthy subjects for writing, culminating in death of course.

particularly loved "what could be more trivial than intimacy?"

ryan, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 18:01 (eleven years ago) link

i feel like one some level that monologue was meant to be a bit boorish, but it also felt *right* on some level and something that Hannah/Lena has probably thought to herself many times.

ryan, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 18:02 (eleven years ago) link

the book publishing thing was def a bit of a "sex in the city" cast off but in a p. bad way.

jed_, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 18:09 (eleven years ago) link

that is really not the way i took it

xp
