good insight from sepinwall:

(*) On the plus side for poor Rebecca Pryce and her son: didn't Pete learn that the company insurance policy indemnifies for suicide after three years? SCDP's been in existence for more than three years now, after all.

would his resignation letter complicate that?

Fellini.Kuti, Monday, 4 June 2012 06:20 (eleven years ago) link

he didn't turn it in. he died as a part of SCDP.

modest mouskouri (get bent), Monday, 4 June 2012 06:23 (eleven years ago) link

but it was addressed "to the partners" and clearly drafted before his death. Was this a spiteful, I'd rather die than resign to you fucks kind of statement? I don't think so

Fellini.Kuti, Monday, 4 June 2012 06:27 (eleven years ago) link

I'm really gutted because I love Jared Harris.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Monday, 4 June 2012 06:44 (eleven years ago) link

Even the way he totally fucked the dog with that last Joan interaction was just heartbreaking.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Monday, 4 June 2012 06:44 (eleven years ago) link

an undelivered resignation letter wouldn't mean much, legally speaking. if no concrete steps had been taken (paperwork filed, etc) to separate lane from the firm, then he died in their employ.

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Monday, 4 June 2012 06:45 (eleven years ago) link

xp yeah

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Monday, 4 June 2012 06:45 (eleven years ago) link

interesting timing: today (june 3) is the anniversary of valerie solanas's attempt on andy warhol's life. jared harris played andy in i shot andy warhol.

that's what i'm thinking. finding a resignation letter is not the same as having received one.

modest mouskouri (get bent), Monday, 4 June 2012 07:03 (eleven years ago) link

though if don comes clean about having fired him...

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Monday, 4 June 2012 07:20 (eleven years ago) link

He won't. I wonder if the insurance stuff was what Lane was going over when Rebecca was trying to get him to go out and drive?

BTW, what was the credits song? I thought it was "A Child's Claim To Fame" by Buffalo Springfield at first (similar guitar lines) but obviously it wasn't.

On a lighter note, Don wants to see A Fistful of Dollars!

Hare Kinsey (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 4 June 2012 09:48 (eleven years ago) link

i'm really not a stickler for anachronisms, but megan's vocal fry really stands out. and she seems out-of-breath a lot for an actress -- someone who would be studying breath control.

modest mouskouri (get bent), Monday, 4 June 2012 10:43 (eleven years ago) link

It was the Lovin' Spoonful.

dan selzer, Monday, 4 June 2012 12:16 (eleven years ago) link

I don't think Glen is creepy anymore. Just awkward. I like him.

dan selzer, Monday, 4 June 2012 12:17 (eleven years ago) link

Me too. I will miss him.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Monday, 4 June 2012 12:24 (eleven years ago) link

Between this and Fringe it's not been a good couple of months for the guy.

pandemic, Monday, 4 June 2012 12:32 (eleven years ago) link

OH FUCK.

Merdeyeux, Monday, 4 June 2012 13:13 (eleven years ago) link

bye Lane :(. (if he's been operating at a loss for three years, I wonder an insurance payout could be troubling for the company finances? Unlikely that they're connected, I guess.)

I didn't think Glen was creepy, he's just a normal boy of 14 or whatever. His interactions with Sally were nice in a slightly awkward adolescent way.

Merdeyeux, Monday, 4 June 2012 13:17 (eleven years ago) link

I wonder an insurance payout could be troubling for the company finances?

Actually, not to get too morbid, Price's death may be better for the company's finances. In addition to any individual or group policies that would pay benefits to his spouse, SCDP likely would have had key man coverage on Price that would have paid the company in the event of his death.

righteousmaelstrom, Monday, 4 June 2012 14:47 (eleven years ago) link

can anyone tell me what Pete meant when he said the note was a "boilerplate"? (did i even hear that right?)

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:11 (eleven years ago) link

Roger said it, I think. And that means it was probably something like "Effective today, I resign my position at SCDP."

Johnny Fever, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:13 (eleven years ago) link

yeah just like 'standard form' or w/e

johnny crunch, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:15 (eleven years ago) link

just a standard "I hereby resign my position at SCDP" letter, ie a boilerplate resignation letter not really a suicide note. xposts

dmr, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:17 (eleven years ago) link

speaking of creepy, way to include a shot of sally's underwear, mad men.

dmr, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:17 (eleven years ago) link

are you guys seriously discussing the finer points of Lane's insurance policy after this episode

dmr, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:18 (eleven years ago) link

yes. better that than Sally's underwear.

Although, one of my friend's has decided to start a band named "Sally Draper's Period".

Johnny Fever, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:22 (eleven years ago) link

lol @ all this insurance talk. Lane's family will get nothing - THEY MOVED THE BODY

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:43 (eleven years ago) link

(my wife did employee practices insurance for 10+ years, suicide isn't covered if the body's been messed with)

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:44 (eleven years ago) link

anyway great episode, love whenever Ray Wise is around, plus the whole jaguar gag (which, while heavily telegraphed, was quite still quite funny)

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:45 (eleven years ago) link

i assumed the car wouldn't start and then he'd have a change of heart.... :s

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:49 (eleven years ago) link

when Don forced him to resign I thought we were going to get the typical Mad Men quiet deflation of the storyline, Lane quietly disappearing back to Britain, never heard from again. Incorrect.

Amidst... everything I had forgotten about Kenny's admirable sass in his meeting with Roger. And his hatred of Pete. I think it had been implied before, but had he ever been explicit about it?

Merdeyeux, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:54 (eleven years ago) link

I think he's really pissed about the Joan thing tbh.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:57 (eleven years ago) link

More like "horrified beyond reckoning" I'd think

"Holy crap," I mutter, as he gently taps my area (silby), Monday, 4 June 2012 15:59 (eleven years ago) link

loved his jab about that.

Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:00 (eleven years ago) link

that was a great scene. whatever that line was, "I'd rather not be a partner, I know what that means now."

dmr, Monday, 4 June 2012 16:12 (eleven years ago) link

(my wife did employee practices insurance for 10+ years, suicide isn't covered if the body's been messed with)

Exactly how common is it for people to just let loved ones' bodies hang there?

Reeling from this ep TBH. What a season it's been.

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:32 (eleven years ago) link

Johnny Fever, Monday, 4 June 2012 16:33 (eleven years ago) link

anyway how about cosgrove snapping it off

Pete's been especially evil this season, and one of the pettiest things he did was out Ken's fiction moonlighting to Roger.

Hare Kinsey (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 4 June 2012 17:13 (eleven years ago) link

Still not convinced that it wasn't Peggy who did this, she looked guilty when Ken mentioned it.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Monday, 4 June 2012 17:20 (eleven years ago) link

? they showed Pete telling Roger.

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 4 June 2012 17:28 (eleven years ago) link

I don't think they did actually, but I still think Pete did it too.
