Which is supremely ironic as I write but don't ever listen to it while writing.

I also liked http://thegluhen.bandcamp.com/ as an instrumental doom sort of thing. And it is name your price. Worth a look.

Matt M., Saturday, 2 June 2012 14:57 (eleven years ago) link

Nice find! That one is weird, but strangely appealing.

The Devil's Panini Machine (J3ff T.), Saturday, 2 June 2012 17:04 (eleven years ago) link

Hey, in all seriousness, is there an "albums for a buck" or somesuch thread? Just found something worth listening to for a buck, in that 80s soundtrack vein. But it's no Perturbator...

Matt M., Saturday, 2 June 2012 17:17 (eleven years ago) link

There's a new UK-based site similar to bandcamp which has mostly pay-what-you-want/free downloads: http://www.aurovine.com/.

It just started recently so there aren't a lot of bands on there yet.

Kent Burt, Saturday, 2 June 2012 17:42 (eleven years ago) link

A new Het Droste Effect EP - Lingerland! I loved last year's self-titled debut, and, listening to the first song off this one as I type, I think this will be just as loved. Spacey fuzz rock of the highest order.

http://hetdrosteeffect.bandcamp.com/

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 2 June 2012 17:48 (eleven years ago) link

Too bad they broke up. I've been working on a long list of stuff, but it won't post. I'll have to remove the Het Droste Effect.

Fastnbulbous, Saturday, 2 June 2012 18:29 (eleven years ago) link

This should keep you all busy. Note that all bands have a limited number of free downloads. So when it's name yr price, it's best to at least chip in $.25 (I usually do at least a dollar) so as to not use up their freebies. Many of these were discovered by the amazing Bill Goodman at The Soda Shop. Sorted roughly in order of my own personal excitement on first listen or three.

http://fellwoods.bandcamp.com/album/wulfram
Originally called The Moss, Portland's Fellwoods play garagey psych with 70s proto-metal/prog influences. New EP Gyromancer also available, just for streaming at the moment. Fans of occult rock (Ghost, Devil's Blood, Uncle Acid) and Witchcraft/Graveyard, be intrigued!

http://colornoise.bandcamp.com/track/time
Costa Rican female duo play post-punk and stoner/garage. Brilliant new track "Time" is one of my favorites this year. 2011 album Fake Apocalypse available for $.99.

http://zeitgeist.bandcamp.com/
Pittsburgh female punk band. First track "Alone" really perked my ears up, melodic like the best Avengers stuff.

http://boyjazz.bandcamp.com/
A more flamboyant take on NOWOTHM focusing on the likes of Def Leppard, with some other hard rock elements. Fans of The Darkness and Rival Sons take note.

http://acidcosmonautrecords.bandcamp.com/album/dust-storm-warning
I don't know much about this band yet, just that there is an EP floating around that I haven't heard, they're from Italy, and this just became available on Bandcamp via Acid Cosmonaut records, which may or may not be their own label. Some nice, bone-dry sounding desert jams.

Yeah, I wound up downloading only Fellwords, Zeitgeist, Lavagoat, Wizard of Stone Mountain, Dodaren, and Dust Storm Warning out of all that, but, you know, it's like a buffet – take what you like, don't take what you don't want, it's all good.
