finished on normal. The story is SO BAD. Stupidly so.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 24 May 2012 17:53 (eleven years ago) link

I remember the funny old days of last week when I'd get annoyed in a public game that someone was skipping dialog or cinematics. Now, I am the one pushing the button.

mh, Thursday, 24 May 2012 18:08 (eleven years ago) link

Does finishing on normal unlock any character classes? Or should I just ditch normal in late Act III and go for Hardcore?

Mad God 40/40 (Z S), Thursday, 24 May 2012 18:36 (eleven years ago) link

a normal finish unlocks a difficulty level (inferno?)

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 24 May 2012 19:00 (eleven years ago) link

oh. well, i suck even at normal level (i died several times last night in one quest), so i doubt i have any need for anything more difficult than hardcore. i was hoping it unlocked another character class or some special class of eq.

I'm having lag issues...

calstars, Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:35 (eleven years ago) link

i finally got this game and now i keep getting error 3007 which i can't seem to fix damn you blizzard :(

Jibe, Saturday, 26 May 2012 16:47 (eleven years ago) link

i'm still kind of in disbelief that the biggest PC developer in the world has messed that up - i mean we're how many years away from Half Life 2? (and I guess all that recent Ubisoft bullshit) - and i am voting with my wallet and not buying the game because of the single player forced login issues, at least until some point when they get fixed

maybe they should've just allowed for SP only characters

Nhex, Saturday, 26 May 2012 16:51 (eleven years ago) link

i don't really see the problem with that article either. if the hardcore gaming press won't complain about this stuff, who will? maybe the "past achievements being looked upon with suspicion" thing is a little too much but generally it should be talked about. if articles like this didn't exist and i wasn't an active forum-goer how i would even know about this?

Ended the starter edition. Nice start.

Seconds later, Slo’ugh grunted in satisfaction and hit one of the demons and he hit five demons at once then he did it again then hit another demon then he hit it again then he hit another demon then he hit it again then he hit it again then he hit a larger demon then he hit it again then he hit it again then he hit it again then he hit again then he hit it in a different way then he drank a red potion then he hit it again then he hit it again then he hit it again.

Then he hit it in a different way then he hit again then it fell over then he picked up some gold from its corpse then he picked up some more gold then he picked up some more gold then he picked up some more gold then he picked up some more gold then he picked some more gold then he picked up a sword then he picked up some boots then he picked up another sword then, muttering in annoyance, he picked up another sword then he picked up an axe then he froze and inspected it then he muttered in annoyance again then he picked up some more gold then he picked up another sword.

aaaahahahahahaha

Game is the same shit over and over.. .also movement is agonizingly slow IMO

again then he hit it again then he hit it again in a different way then he hit it again in a different way then he hit and then it was dead.

"Ham-sized hands trembling, he reached out towards it. Dare he hope that it would be a little bit better to hit demons with than his current weapon was? Destiny surely awaited."

inspired by the love here and elsewhere, my son and I have started playing Diablo II for the first time. as a co-op it's quite a lot of fun innit?

thomasintrouble, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 13:01 (eleven years ago) link

THE FUNNY PART IS THAT MOST GAMES ARE BUILT ON REPETITIVE MECHANICS. GET IT?!?!

Matt M., Tuesday, 29 May 2012 14:05 (eleven years ago) link

the only games i play are ones in which you float everywhere and there are no rules or structures, not even grammatical rules

Mad God 40/40 (Z S), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 14:16 (eleven years ago) link

I kept waiting for that to turn into "HOW'D IT GET BURNED? HOW'D IT GET BURNED? HOW'D IT GET BURNED? HOW'D IT GET BURNED?"

that is a weird thing to bring up over lean cuisine (DJP), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 14:19 (eleven years ago) link

Nhex, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 16:34 (eleven years ago) link

finally beat it on normal difficulty, and rather than go onto nightmare, I decided to start a Hardcore Wizard. She's level 10, now. Everything is way more nerveracking/exciting now, especially since I'm stuck in my monk mentality and I keep rushing into battles and nearly dying.

Mad God 40/40 (Z S), Saturday, 2 June 2012 19:29 (eleven years ago) link

also it's nice to just skip all of the story and cutscenes and go from battle to battle.

Mad God 40/40 (Z S), Saturday, 2 June 2012 19:29 (eleven years ago) link

Holding off on buying this until I beat it on demo with each character, seeing if I still want it then, even tho I bought CK2 and Victoria 2 and Anno 1404 this week. Those games work on my work laptop, not sure if D3 will

theres no way to like gift your diablo code to someone, right? assuming they guard against that.

bnw, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 18:10 (eleven years ago) link

Has anyone had their account hacked? I haven't had time to play all week, but a while ago a friend of mine sent me a frantic email warning about changing my password, hacking, etc, and I've heard rumors about it happening to others.

Mad God 40/40 (Z S), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 18:13 (eleven years ago) link

Blizzard accounts get hacked all the time; in my old WoW guild, four different officers (the guild leader, the raid leader, the main tank and our top healer) all got hacked and our guild bank was emptied. Blizzard was very good about restoring what was taken every time.

Victory Chainsaw! (DJP), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 18:30 (eleven years ago) link

(that was all with virtual stuff, though; DIII's real money auction house adds a whole new level of sinister that I'm never planning to touch)

Victory Chainsaw! (DJP), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 18:31 (eleven years ago) link

They just announced that they were going to require the Blizzard Authenticator for the real money auction house.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 19:52 (eleven years ago) link

makes sense

I still love that one of the first things that happened when they introduced the authenticators was the ppl who got hacked would find themselves locked out of their accounts by an authenticator

Victory Chainsaw! (DJP), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 19:57 (eleven years ago) link

i'm surprised how little motivation i've felt to play this. glitch had longer legs for me.

“Argh!” I cry. But I really don’t care. (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 20:47 (eleven years ago) link

the auction house really makes annoying trade interactions and money probs go away. Need cash? Sell any rares you get at a fair bit below market price, but still 10x what the merchants would give, and someone will buy within hours!

mh, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 02:51 (eleven years ago) link

Show's over, nothing to see here, please drop the price so I can buy it.

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 22 June 2012 09:40 (eleven years ago) link

I started reading that but then got distracted by this:

I am trying to play this game less but it's not working so far

mh, Friday, 22 June 2012 14:33 (eleven years ago) link

Im playing again on nightmare with my witch doctor even though I am completely tired with my skills, etc. Just seeing what pops up with new crafting options and what kind of legendary shit I can track down.. I got a legendary mace 2 days ago which was mediocre as all get out..

I'd start with another character if I didnt have to play all the way through on normal mode which is like playing 3/4ths of the games potential and is annoying.

johnathan lee riche$ (mayor jingleberries), Friday, 22 June 2012 18:45 (eleven years ago) link

that is why playing with others is good -- you've probably collected enough gear, or could, to make a new character pretty good out of the gate so you just have someone at a higher level help you speed run the first act

mh, Friday, 22 June 2012 18:50 (eleven years ago) link

helm with an expensive ruby in it -> get exp a lot faster

mh, Friday, 22 June 2012 18:51 (eleven years ago) link

the internet seems to think this is rubbish, but then the internet's full of knobs. so...worth buying?

thomasintrouble, Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:18 (eleven years ago) link

honestly, it didn't do it so much for me.

Authorities don't know who shot the 50 Cent the goose. (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:25 (eleven years ago) link

I'm about to hit level 60 with my one character :/

mh, Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:46 (eleven years ago) link

i stopped playing after a week. the repetition and inventory shuffle just bores me now.

bnw, Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:55 (eleven years ago) link

I'm interested in how the dynamic works in Inferno difficulty -- basically your character has maxed out its level right before you get to it, so it's all about maintaining your build and not dying so you can get better gear.

mh, Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:57 (eleven years ago) link

As opposed to my current status at the end of Hell difficulty, which appears to be dying constantly

mh, Thursday, 28 June 2012 16:57 (eleven years ago) link

You have to be 60 to enter Inferno, I believe, and the difficulty of Inferno doesn't give you a lot of freedom to mess around with builds. It gets pretty cookie cutter from what I understand.

Basically, from what I can tell, the dynamic is that you get to Inferno and its difficulty functions as a "pay wall", like in a Facebook game (that you paid $60 for).

You have three choices: Buy gear from the Real Money Auction House, grind earlier acts with hopes to get good drops you can sell on the gold auction house so you can afford to buy upgrades, or you can try to completely ignore the auction house and run Hell Act 3/4 over and over again until you either get lucky and get the gear you need, or just get bored of the game and start playing the Civ V expansion pack. Right before I decided on the second part of option #3, I was grinding Act I and II inferno in order to get gear I could use to progress through the rest of Act II, and so on.

Blizzard has sent me 5 emails over the last 2 days saying my chat ability t has been suspended for spamming or possibly repeating the as same phrase over and over or possibly just "pure gibberish."

I haven't logged on in more than a month.

calstars, Friday, 13 July 2012 15:02 (eleven years ago) link

I played it for work and now don't have much desire to play it any more. Which is weird because I played DIABLO 2 to death and beyond.
