back in '91 in our scum landlord underground one room bedsit with my newly wed wife, a little boombox/portable cd player, and our whole lives excitedly ahead of us.

Really feeling this, mark.

@bill a

yeah. it was a headf*ck too far.

given that i thought i didn't like the album, i never expected such an attachment to hit home.

mark e, Thursday, 17 May 2012 22:30 (eleven years ago) link

I will always associate this album with playing Super Metroid on the SNES

Scary Move 4 (dog latin), Thursday, 17 May 2012 23:42 (eleven years ago) link

Haha, I have the same connection between super r-type and computer world.

Mad God 40/40 (Z S), Thursday, 17 May 2012 23:56 (eleven years ago) link

the remaster sounds fantastic. so much attack, and so much space around each instrument

dayo, Friday, 18 May 2012 12:26 (eleven years ago) link

was never a 'big fan' (probably because I never heard it on vinyl amirite) but I am really really digging the remaster!

dayo, Friday, 18 May 2012 12:26 (eleven years ago) link

Orginal vinyl didn't sound very different from the CD in my opinion, and was only 1 disc so a bit of a quiet pressing. I'm hoping the new analog remaster will be spread over two discs.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 18 May 2012 13:31 (eleven years ago) link

From everything Shields has said lately I'd really not thin it's "meant" to be heard on vinyl.

shaane, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 16:30 (eleven years ago) link

were the remasters any good? i'm reluctant to listen to a new version of Loveless despite the quietness of the original master.

spazzmatazz, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 16:52 (eleven years ago) link

I would gladly pay you tuesday out of my loveless wallet for a new MBV album today

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 17:07 (eleven years ago) link

RMDE at "quietness".

The remasters from Analogue tapes sounded like an improvement to me, especially in the bass frequencies.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 17:18 (eleven years ago) link

I'm not really getting what that product is supposed to be. Like for money?

gwenguthrie gwen ross (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 20:52 (eleven years ago) link

for notes! HAHAHAHAHA

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:16 (eleven years ago) link

It's for Oyster travel cards and such.

NWOFHM! Overlord (krakow), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:54 (eleven years ago) link

does the fact it chops the bottom off the m annoy anyone else? it's like the one thing they had to consider and they got it wrong.

yes, is for travelcards, hence the name TravelTunes. that blue wavy design in the back is an oyster card, (virtually) everyone in london has one.

koogs, Thursday, 13 September 2012 08:51 (eleven years ago) link

Yes. Looking at some of the wallets they offer they just seem to be artist's impressions of what the cardholder might look like when they print one off.

Stewart D or Raheem? (useless chamber), Thursday, 13 September 2012 09:26 (eleven years ago) link

It's a sony thing methinks, homing in on the 'fans who'll buy any old shit with their favourite band's likeness attached' market, thus:

Supper's Burnt (PaulTMA), Thursday, 13 September 2012 10:21 (eleven years ago) link

that said, it's £6 and looks like it comes with digital copy of the double cd... (7.49 on amazon.co.uk)

koogs, Thursday, 13 September 2012 11:11 (eleven years ago) link

This is how they'll save the music industry for sure.

Evan, Thursday, 13 September 2012 13:26 (eleven years ago) link

I have never heard of a "travel card" before. They're credit-card sized right?

gwenguthrie gwen ross (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:00 (eleven years ago) link

yes. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/14836.aspx

koogs, Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:06 (eleven years ago) link

It's interesting though that they're marketed as travel wallets and not credit wallets or just card wallets. So I take it their ubiquity extends beyond major metro areas?

gwenguthrie gwen ross (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:21 (eleven years ago) link

Also yes I know exactly what those things are; quite a brainfart to not remember

gwenguthrie gwen ross (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:22 (eleven years ago) link

So I take it their ubiquity extends beyond major metro areas?

London has a lot of ppl in it

┐(´ー`)┌ (sic), Friday, 14 September 2012 00:37 (eleven years ago) link

Well sure but it's like making something that can fit credit cards and marketing it as a MetroCard holder to appeal to New Yorkers

gwenguthrie gwen ross (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 14 September 2012 01:40 (eleven years ago) link

you use an Oyster a lot more times daily than a credit card!

(when I've been in London I just stick it in my actual wallet and wave that at the detectors though; I got given a free Keeping Up With The Kardashians one somewhere last time, which didn't induce me to switch)

┐(´ー`)┌ (sic), Friday, 14 September 2012 01:54 (eleven years ago) link

You do?? That is crazy, I use my debit card like several times a day.

gwenguthrie gwen ross (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 14 September 2012 02:03 (eleven years ago) link

nerds need to step up and invent a single card that does everything so I can start collecting travel wallets.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Friday, 14 September 2012 02:44 (eleven years ago) link

I feel like a srsly corny bastard, but I bought one of the travel pass holders (despite already having the reissues on CD...), and it seems like a perfectly serviceable piece of plastic and the band name is not cut off irl. In my defence, I'd been reduced to taping my original travel pass holder together with tape and it was on its last legs in terms of serviceability. But yeah, some shame here.

that mustardless plate (Bill A), Thursday, 20 September 2012 17:58 (eleven years ago) link

It's OK. I have a Julian Cope belt buckle.

(a Nietzsche quote. yikes.)

koogs, Friday, 21 September 2012 09:16 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, my nation underground was a low point for him. still, it's a nice belt buckle.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Friday, 21 September 2012 14:47 (eleven years ago) link

lol yeah, I am v happy without that in my life

(Charlotte Anne is a good 3/5 of a choon and the Drew Carey theme cover is cute but...)

the crazy farm animal EP was the first sign of what was soon to follow though.

new album by the end of the year. full quote from shields:
"Yes, we should have a new album available by the end of 2012. I just need to record it!"

Shields then asked: "Have you seen me guitar anywhere? Could've sworn it was right around here somewhere..."

absurdly pro-D (schlump), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 17:51 (eleven years ago) link

At this point i don't really care. We have "Loveless", we have "Isn't Anything". If you really want more MBV then you have all those EPs and rare singles and stuff. Unless they've been performing great new material on tours and it has been blowing minds, it seems like a new MBV is pretty much set up to disappoint.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 18:04 (eleven years ago) link

Hopefully there will be enough time passed that it will be different enough to be interesting even if it doesn't stand up to that period.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 7 November 2012 19:41 (eleven years ago) link

ok, i disputed this with someone closer the source, and the word is that it really is going to happen.

i still reserve the right to not believe a word etc ..

but who knows, i mean, didn't i read somewhere that kevin is no longer helping out with the new david holmes produced primal scream album ?

so, after all, what else has he got to do ..
