DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:44 (nineteen years ago) link

I'd guess the remaining 21 are:

Basement Jaxx – Romeo
Beyonce featuring Jay-Z - Crazy In Love
Britney Spears - Toxic
Daft Punk - Digital Love
Daft Punk - One More Time
Dizzee Rascal - I Luv U
Girls Aloud - No Good Advice
Jay-Z - 99 Problems
Kelis - Milkshake
LCD Soundsystem - Losing My Edge
Loretta Lynn – Van Lear Rose
Missy Elliott - Get Ur Freak On
Missy Elliott - Work It
Nas - Made You Look
New Pornographers - Letter From An Occupant
Outkast - B.O.B.
Outkast - Hey Ya!
Outkast - Miss Jackson
R Kelly - Ignition (Remix)
Radiohead - Idioteque
Usher - Yeah

What else could make it? The other Radiohead tracks, "Move Your Body", "Sound of the Underground", "Booo!", "21 Seconds" could be in instead of something (most likely "van lear rose"). (chart-bound ukg circa 2000-01 is really the big loser in this, isn't it? Unless so solid or booo! is in, there won't be a single track in the top 100. I sort of wasted my nomination on "girls like us" - and then didn't even vote for it. Should have nominated "freak like me" instead.)

scott pl. (scott pl.), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:44 (nineteen years ago) link

I'd switch in Radiohed's "Everything in its Right Place" for "Van Lear Rose," but otherwise I think I'm with you, Scott.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:49 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah, VLR is the longshot and probably would only have any chance because 'seven nation army', 'fell in love w/a girl' aren't around to take more jack white votes.

the way this is going, I wouldn't be surprised if all three of the remaining Radiohead songs were in and, say, "made you look" was also out.

scott pl. (scott pl.), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 16:55 (nineteen years ago) link

You're forgetting X-Tina's "Dirrty"!!! Am I out of it in thinking it'll be on there?

Seb (Seb), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 17:51 (nineteen years ago) link

Scott, no way on "Made You Look" or "Van Lear Rose" and I seriously doubt "Letter From an Occupant" made it either.

I say:

Alan Braxe and Fred Falke - Rubicon
Basement Jaxx – Romeo
Beyonce featuring Jay-Z - Crazy In Love
Britney Spears - Toxic
Daft Punk - Digital Love
Daft Punk - One More Time
Dizzee Rascal - I Luv U
Girls Aloud - No Good Advice
Jay-Z - 99 Problems
Kelis - Milkshake
LCD Soundsystem - Losing My Edge
Missy Elliott - Get Ur Freak On
Missy Elliott - Work It
Nina Sky - Move Your Body
Outkast - B.O.B.
Outkast - Hey Ya!
Outkast - Miss Jackson
R Kelly - Ignition (Remix)
Radiohead - Idioteque
Radiohead - There There
Usher - Yeah

My stretch one was "Rubicon," obviously--I'd put that on even odds with "Everything in it's Right Place" and "Letter From an Occupant"

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:24 (nineteen years ago) link

I will be very disappointed if Mu's "Let's Get Sick" doesn't show up, but I'd also be surprised to see it place this high.

frankE (frankE), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 19:58 (nineteen years ago) link

Haha, it looks like I'm going back-on-forth on this Scott P. vs. Good Dr. Bill FITE, but I only skimmed Scott's predictions, and I think Dr. Bill is probably right about Nas and New Pornographers. Gosh, I don't know what replaces them, though. I'm not confident about THREE Radiohead songs in the top 20, nor about "Rubicon" or "Move Ya Body."

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:05 (nineteen years ago) link

forgot about rubicon and I overlooked dirrty - both have a shot. I honestly think letter from an occupant is a lock: that's a corny indie fuxx anthem and new pornographers have already placed two lps.

scott pl. (scott pl.), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:23 (nineteen years ago) link

Notice, people, how Bardo Pond's "Every man" hasn't yet appeared!

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 20:38 (nineteen years ago) link

A lock? Is it really even that well known? I haven't even heard it.

I'm not confident about any of my variables, but I think they have a better chance than Nas or Loretta Lynn. But I'd be even more surprised if "Dirrty" made it--would that many people really consider it top 15 of the decade? I find it hard to believe.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 22:48 (nineteen years ago) link

"Letter from an Occupant" and "Fight Test" got my token corny indie fuxx votes.

Mike Ouderkirk (Mike Ouderkirk), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:25 (nineteen years ago) link

"letter from an occupant" was top five for me i think

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:05 (nineteen years ago) link

"letter from an occupant" was top five for me i think

I think mine as well...

frankE (frankE), Thursday, 26 August 2004 00:31 (nineteen years ago) link

letter from an occupant is worse than i feared

artiste (artiste), Thursday, 26 August 2004 03:56 (nineteen years ago) link

hopefully i d/led the shrieky hellcat karaoke remix by accident but what kind of sick shriveled world could turn a few woowoos into an anthem

artiste (artiste), Thursday, 26 August 2004 04:13 (nineteen years ago) link

Okay, now the problem is: Which of these 11 songs will NOT make the Top 10?

Daft Punk, "Digital Love"
Daft Punk, "One More Time"
Dizzee Rascal, "I Luv U"
Kelis, "Milkshake"
LCD Soundsystem, "Losing My Edge"
Missy Elliott, "Get Ur Freak On"
OutKast, "B.O.B."
OutKast, "Hey Ya!"
OutKast, "Miss Jackson"
R. Kelly, "Ignition (Remix)"
Usher, "Yeah!"

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:49 (nineteen years ago) link

if i had to guess i'd say 'yeah' or 'miss jackson', leaning toward 'miss jackson'.

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:51 (nineteen years ago) link

"Miss Jackson" (or maybe even "Milkshake".)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:53 (nineteen years ago) link

I am, too, Blount. I reckon that people eager to vote for "Hey Ya!" and "B.O.B." just didn't have room for "Miss Jackson." If that's the case, though, I'm a little surprised that it was beat out by "The Whole World."

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:54 (nineteen years ago) link

Ive just checked my ballot and I forgot to vote for B.O.B!! :( I hope it's not the MYSTERY FAILURE.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:57 (nineteen years ago) link

Eight of my top ten left. Pretty good.

I'd say "Ms. Jackson" is the odd one out, except that'd mean "The Whole Word" placed higher, and that just doesn't make much sense, does it? So I'm going with "Yeah!," though I'm by no means confident.

10. "Ms. Jackson" - OutKast
9. "Milkshake" - Kelis
8. "Losing My Edge" - LCD Soundsystem
7. "One More Time" - Daft Punk
6. "Get Ur Freak On" - Missy Elliot
5. "B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)" - OutKast
4. "Digital Love" - Daft Punk
3. "Hey Ya!" - OutKast
2. "Ignition (Remix)" - R. Kelly
1. "I Luv U" - Dizzee Rascal

And how did we all miss the Avalanches?

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:04 (nineteen years ago) link

i didn't! number one album and i think i had 'since i left you' on my track votes too

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:05 (nineteen years ago) link

I think Dr. Bill means, how did we miss predicting "Since I Left You" in the Top 20?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:07 (nineteen years ago) link

That. It was an obvious (well, semi-obvious) one that Scott and I shouldn't have missed.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:09 (nineteen years ago) link

If "Miss Jackson" isn't in the top 100 then that's a total shame.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:11 (nineteen years ago) link

I could live with that. Not having "Yeah!" would be far worse.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:13 (nineteen years ago) link

not having 'Addictive' is worse than that

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:13 (nineteen years ago) link

not having ANYTHING off 'kaleidoscope' is the worst of all

pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:14 (nineteen years ago) link

or indeed 'Mundian Te Bach Ke' (unless you say it was before 2000 anyway blah mumble)

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:14 (nineteen years ago) link

"House of Jealous Lovers" is the big loss here. I'm pretty sure it would've been top 20 if it had been nominated. I'm an idiot for not doing so myself.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:15 (nineteen years ago) link

or jeez maybe even some bootlegs? i mean stevem's running the fucking poll - how did THAT happen?

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:16 (nineteen years ago) link

but oh well, only ourselves to blame, etc., the old poll is nothing more than a punchline anyway and at best this'll rise to that occasion.

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:17 (nineteen years ago) link

haha "they're animals anyway so let them lose their souls"

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:18 (nineteen years ago) link

i should've just nominated 'A Stroke Of Genieus' or 'Freak Like Me' because even I didn't believe 'Rubicon' might make the top ten.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:19 (nineteen years ago) link

'freak like me' is like the number two song i associate with freaky trigger (after 'no good advice') for some reason

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:20 (nineteen years ago) link

to me, "freak like me" is the biggest omission here. I'm surprised only one Kylie song was nominated, and that it did so poorly.

(for lps = as heard on radio soulwax pt. 2, we love life, fever were regrettably left out)

scott pl. (scott pl.), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:21 (nineteen years ago) link

haha big xpost

scott pl. (scott pl.), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:21 (nineteen years ago) link

Kylie was definitely a big loss. "More, More, More," "Love at First Sight" and "Can't Get You Out of My Head" (not to mention the original "Come Into My World") were all top 100 worthy.

"Freak Like Me," eh.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:22 (nineteen years ago) link

i'd say that about the Kylie songs tho. i feel that CGYOOMH should be here more for the relevance that got attached to it rather than it's qualities as a song (pleasant and as hooky as they get but hardly as inspired and exciting as people constantly make out hello Paul Morley and his loyal disciples)

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:33 (nineteen years ago) link

prefer 'In Your Eyes' still

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:33 (nineteen years ago) link

This loyal Morley disciple thinks Kylie is generally a bit rub.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:34 (nineteen years ago) link

even the indie phase?!?!?!

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Thursday, 26 August 2004 15:35 (nineteen years ago) link

apparently i'm the only upset by liz phair's absence.

danh (danh), Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:15 (nineteen years ago) link

I'd have voted for "Love at First Sight." Highly, at that.

Mike Ouderkirk (Mike Ouderkirk), Friday, 27 August 2004 00:16 (nineteen years ago) link

5. "Yeah" - Usher
4. "B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)" - OutKast
3. "I Luv U" - Dizzee Rascal
2. "Get Ur Freak On" - Missy Elliot
1. "Digital Love" - Daft Punk

?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:06 (nineteen years ago) link

No, fuck Usher. 'Hey Ya' will surely be there.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:09 (nineteen years ago) link

Actually, maybe fuck Dizzee.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:11 (nineteen years ago) link

I am massively scared 'Hey Ya!' is going to no.1. Missy will chart above Dizzee and under Daft Punk. Usher for no. 5, I guess.

'Freak...' (and 'Overload') and 'Love At First Sight' are sad omissions and I honestly think the Kiley Dean track I nominated would've made it if more people were familiar with it. Dem's da breaks.

R.I.M.A. (Barima), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:17 (nineteen years ago) link

No, B.O.B then?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:21 (nineteen years ago) link

what's with the Love At First Sight love? A Stardust rip FIVE years later? Come on! IN YOUR EYES people!

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 27 August 2004 13:24 (nineteen years ago) link

No Usher, hopefully. God, Lil Jon and Ludacris do all they can for him and he still ends up sounding like a princess.

danh (danh), Friday, 27 August 2004 14:03 (nineteen years ago) link

or prince. whatever, but very very silly/dumb/weak.

danh (danh), Friday, 27 August 2004 14:14 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm kinda surprised that "I Luv U" got nominated and "Fix Up Look Sharp" didn't.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 27 August 2004 17:30 (nineteen years ago) link

Really? "I Luv U" was just talked about so much on ILM for sooo long before it even had a proper release.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 27 August 2004 17:38 (nineteen years ago) link

I kind of have to say that expecting FULS over ILU is akin to expecting any Nirvana song over "Smells Like Teen Spirit".

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 27 August 2004 17:39 (nineteen years ago) link

If it's 'Hey Ya' I'll eat Andre 3000's velvet hat.

-- Alba (albab...), August 22nd, 2004 3:39 PM. (later)
How's it taste?

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Friday, 27 August 2004 17:58 (nineteen years ago) link

See, I missed a lot of the "I Luv U" talk. I miss a lot of things.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 27 August 2004 17:59 (nineteen years ago) link

It is so not going to be Hey Ya.

-- roxymuzak (emilysu...), August 22nd, 2004. (roxymuzak)

wouldn't shock me there are some corny-ass lurkers or so i hear

-- artiste (theartist...), August 22nd, 2004. (artiste)

but i was still kind of shocked when i opened this thread, i couldn't help it, i think there is something really corny and awful about picking hey ya #1 that there is not about picking kid a
