That "Germoline" tune was alright, as far as antiseptics go.

If they're not "songs", Geir, what do you call them exactly?

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 15 January 2004 10:06 (twenty years ago) link

"If there's a better definition of mid-90s post-grunge mediocrity, I'd like to hear it."
- Dishwalla, Live, Collective Soul, Matchbox 20, Filter, Tracy Bonham, Barenaked Ladies, does Smash Mouth count?

"though I think STP were a little bit better (not much, though)."
- I feel like 90% of those who diss STP have never heard "Tiny Music."

A "song" (as opposed to a song) is something that is really just improvised on top of a guitar riff rather than properly composed. You know, like Pearl Jam...

If I didn't have to watch their videos I'd like them more. Actually I thought Sixteen Stone was pretty good. Though I never saw how they were trying to be grunge. To me they always sounded like a commercialized version of Catherine Wheel.

Anyone else see the strange resemblence between Gavin Rossdale and Jeremy Irons?

This is the point in the thread where I point at Geir and laugh.

I got tricked into seeing the Blue Man Group touring show (which was nothing like their Vegas show), and Tracy Bonham opened. It was kind of sweet, listening to her talk up her new album and about how she'd only play new stuff, and then at the end play "Mother, Mother" just to get someone to listen.

But she wasn't as bad as the other opener Venus Hum - two nerds jerking spastically in front of Powerbooks and a singer.

I'll accept Candlebox and Collective Soul as possible contenders, but Bush were still the biggest lame-os in terms of sheer number of improbable hit singles.

As in "Venus Hum are the Bush of..." One of the worst bands I've heard for a couple of years, Venus Hum. Dire empty toss.

I like both "Machinehead" and "Art School Girl." (was that the name of it?)

Did anyone else know there's a new Bush single? I just found out via flashing banner ad somewhere.

This sort of musical makeover worked three years ago when Silverchair did it with "Straight Lines" (imo, at least), but Bush falls flat on their faces with "Afterlife": http://www.bushofficial.com/reveal.aspx

seven years pass...

I bleach the sky
Every night
Loaded on wrong
And further from right
Spinning around
Two howling moons
'Cause they're always there
Whatever I do

The river is loaded
I've been there today
Took it some questions
She does me again
I'd die in your arms
If you were dead too
Here comes a lie
We will always be true

The bigger you give bigger you get
We're boss at denial
But best at forget
Cupboard is empty we really need food
Summer is winter and you always knew

I touch your mouth my will is food
Addicted to love I'm addicted to bull-shit
I kill you once I kill you again
We're starving and crude
Welcome my friends to

To the little things that kill
Tearing at my brains again
Oh the little things that kill
Tearing at my brains again

I didn't realize neural networks had been around since the mid-'90s but there you go.

New album isn't terrible? Really heavy for these guys, a couple of times the guitars reminded me of latter Hum. Rossdale's lyrics are still pretty awful tho.
