Hi John! I didn't realize that was you. I'll run your metal column as soon as they restart Spin.com! I've been off that beat for well over a year -- they laid everyone off except me. Sorry I never followed up with you about that. It was quite a column. Besides, you've been busy making some pretty stellar records. As to why I'm here -- well, I can't resist a debate over my muse, Dashboard Confessional . . .

ILx, the coffee klatch of the music world. :-)

Oh, you misunderstand. You're free to like or dislike anything at all. I'm just helpfully pointing out that a lot of this frenzied vitriol is pretty much irrelevant. It's far more interesting to hear the opinions of people who DO like Dashboard and why they do -- or at least the opinions of those who have heard more than one song -- than it is to hear all of you bitch and moan about him.

I'll certainly agree with this.

What the singer needs to do is get in a car accident that makes him not-so-pretty, and then listen to Black Flag and Fear for a while, and then write songs about fistfights and guzzling liters of whiskey. And the songs have to be really loud and fast, with a lot of Chuck Berry riffs. Then he'll be ok.

This is awesome.

I already said his idiocy was endearing.

fourteen years pass...

seeing him tuesday. last time i did was one of the best shows i've ever seen. i've been relistening to all the albums for the last few weeks. the themes are so incredibly trite and at the same time lyrically he does so much more than he needs to there's all kinds of amazingly witty lines, clever turns. it's also like a bizarro world of breakups. it's impossible one person could experience all the breakups and different kinds that he claims to, and then some of the claims he makes are insane. one of my favorite lines: "You will be back someday / And this awkward kiss that tells of other people's lips / Will be of service to giving you away," i mean obv all the emo feels but also if u think about it for a few seconds what exactly is he saying? he is tasting other boys' on her lips?? and it's giving away her secret (that she cheated on him)?? this is obv all impossible - it's like epic fantasy heartbreak.

ten months pass...

i had never heard dusk and summer or after the ending before this weekend and i think they figure considerably into taylor swift's songwriting for at least two albums

dusk and summer in particular is a gorgeously-produced and written emo crossover record
