I would give this show kudos if I got any hint from the writing that it is intentionally goofy, and that the writers are aware; but I get none of that

still, it is utterly goofy and not unenjoyable; I wouldn't buy the DVDs or nuthin but I wouldn't step out if it were on

also: it is the x-files

I know ppl have said it above but it bears restating and restating: this show is the x-files

cozen (cozwn), Thursday, 18 September 2008 15:40 (fifteen years ago) link

It is the x-files in content but not in form.

The X-Files was good.

good job outing the browncoats, Kerm

some dude, Thursday, 18 September 2008 15:43 (fifteen years ago) link

i saw the second episode of this. it's not the worst thing i've ever seen but i was happy to not get hooked on it at all (who has time to watch tv etc.).

Jordan, Thursday, 18 September 2008 15:44 (fifteen years ago) link

The X-Files didn't assume that putting something in the script made it believable.

Kerm, Thursday, 18 September 2008 15:45 (fifteen years ago) link

c'mon, dudes, first couple of x-files episodes aren't what the show is famous for...

these guys could pull it out! i mean, they blew everything in their pilot but maybe...

REIGN IN FUDGE (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 18 September 2008 15:55 (fifteen years ago) link

This show is so boring that I want Pacey to steal Joey from the tiny Tom Cruise.

aimurchie, Thursday, 18 September 2008 18:11 (fifteen years ago) link

Tom Cruise is no Dawson!

aimurchie, Thursday, 18 September 2008 18:12 (fifteen years ago) link

More entertaining than one minute of Fringe.

Nicole, Thursday, 18 September 2008 18:13 (fifteen years ago) link

Or the entirety of Fringe. Whatever, it's been a long day.

Nicole, Thursday, 18 September 2008 18:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Anywhoo, there are too many holes. it's not believable - at all - that the lab at Harvard was just sitting there for decades. And then, suddenly it's up and running.
And the whole thing with her going into the tank? I was like, tetanus shot.

I like the idea of monsters who need pituitary glands to live.

Always confused why the guy who needs this only goes for beautiful women. Men don't work? it's just so typical - he's a serial killer of women! But it doesn't make sense. He could get the gland from a whole range of folks.

I JUST really want Pacey to break up Joey's marriage to fake, short Dawson.

aimurchie, Thursday, 18 September 2008 18:30 (fifteen years ago) link

The biggest problem I have with the show is the same problem I have with every show/movie set at Harvard; film crews are not allowed in Harvard Yard, so the school they're using in the show looks nothing like the actual Harvard.

i am the small cat (HI DERE), Thursday, 18 September 2008 18:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Hahah, Dan, do you know where Michael Cimino filmed the Harvard prologue of Heaven's Gate?

Oxford.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 18 September 2008 18:34 (fifteen years ago) link

And the whole thing with her going into the tank? I was like, tetanus shot.

You get tetanus from deep puncture wounds that allow anaerobic bacteria to grow. I think the tank was a smooth surface, but the urban legend linking rust and tetanus persists.

mh, Thursday, 18 September 2008 18:55 (fifteen years ago) link

YOU try picking up guys at strip clubs!

David R., Thursday, 18 September 2008 18:57 (fifteen years ago) link

Well, that would be easy for me, I guess. maybe not. who knows.
But, whatever, lots of people have pituitary glands - the simple solution would be to work with the elderly.

Ok, on the tetanus thing - I don't care how deep the gash has to be. Wires in water? It's all pretty silly.

Dan, it's really good that you didn't go to Columbia. For many reasons.
They shoot L&O episodes there.
(Although it would be cool if you appeared in an episode of L&O.)

Harvard should get over itself.

aimurchie, Thursday, 18 September 2008 20:46 (fifteen years ago) link

Are you all complaining about strained/fanciful logic on a JJ Abrams joint? For shame!

Leee, Thursday, 18 September 2008 21:37 (fifteen years ago) link

i like pacey from dawson's creek in this.

his dad in the show is awesome.

the dude from the wire is badass.

can't really dig the lead actress though. she bothers me.

decent show...i'll keep watching for awhile.

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 18 September 2008 21:45 (fifteen years ago) link

I've missed the last two weeks but seeing as this hasn't bumped, it's like I haven't missed anything at all.

Leee, Thursday, 2 October 2008 21:21 (fifteen years ago) link

I started watching the second episode, got vaguely bored, did something else, never came back.

polyphonic, Thursday, 2 October 2008 21:29 (fifteen years ago) link

This show is just okay. Bits of it are genuinely creepy but there's a lot of "who cares" flying around as well.

i am the small cat (HI DERE), Thursday, 2 October 2008 21:57 (fifteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...

this one was alright, in a generic middle-of-season x-files kinda way. what are they going to do for GAME CHANGING, though, like the blonde girl is actually president of massive dynamics (lol) or something?

also, filling in her backstory didn't make me like her much more.

REIGN IN FUDGE (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 07:21 (fifteen years ago) link

it's not good yet. still not giving up on it.

abanana, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 08:15 (fifteen years ago) link

if it's still running with the identikit episodes of 'freaky new bioterrorist weapon actually invented by the one crazy dude 40 years ago and fortunately he pulls a bullshit solution out of his ass' then fuckit i'm going back to sarah connor.

allez, allons-y, on y va (ledge), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 08:22 (fifteen years ago) link

ass arse, c'mon stick with yer own slang.

allez, allons-y, on y va (ledge), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 08:23 (fifteen years ago) link

i got about halfway through the third episode before giving up. not even daniels or puffball pacey can save this show for me.

GAWD, NO! this time it was a competing company to the usual one AND the old guy actually did like SCIENCE to figure out what the weapon was. TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

REIGN IN FUDGE (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 09:30 (fifteen years ago) link

there is a bit of a formula to the show. a...scientific formula, you might say AHAHAHAHA.

i like it. i want it to succeed. the bad parts are mostly endearingly bad, save for blonde woman who is just terrible, but works as the straight man of the set up. mad scientist dude is awesome. he gets some first class one liners. in fact, combining obvious formula with well-scripted oddball main dude is treading the House path somewhat, albeit in a low rent way, and i like House a lot too.

Alien Mindbender (Roberto Spiralli), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 10:51 (fifteen years ago) link

I wish this show could somehow be just Wire dude and the steward to the throne of Gondor and homemade acid and a cow in the laboratory without all the boring other characters. Also the perky FBI babe Astrid whatever would die in every episode.

BODY PROP (nickalicious), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 13:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Astrid FARNSWORTH. Does anyone else think this is an homage to Prof Farnsworth of Futurama? No? I don't really think so either but my mind wanders a lot when I watch this shit.

BODY PROP (nickalicious), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 13:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Both character names are probably an homage to this guy, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if secretly the writers just wanted to have the mad old scientist be a live action version of the Futurama professor. Still waiting for him to inevitably say "Good news, everyone!"

Nhex, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 13:52 (fifteen years ago) link

astrid is v v pretty.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 13:58 (fifteen years ago) link

she looks like every black girl in commercials looks. kinda huxtable.

i guess she does look a little like a noxema ad. maybe it i secret product placement!

ppl thinking that this isn't a straight x-files rip are CRAZY

should i be watching this show? i'm sort of in love with Pacey. :-/

horseshoe, Thursday, 23 October 2008 03:01 (fifteen years ago) link

he is the most annoying character on the show. he's like a koala bear with badass attitude who doesn't play by the rules. a marsupial david caruso.

REIGN IN FUDGE (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 23 October 2008 07:58 (fifteen years ago) link

this show is the My Humps of television. i stopped watching after the third episode and i'm the IDEAL viewer for a sci-fi conspiracy show.

Mordy, Thursday, 23 October 2008 08:19 (fifteen years ago) link

i'm kinda feeling the same way, but i'm huluing up the third episode right now

my other son is a zamboni (gbx), Friday, 24 October 2008 02:34 (fifteen years ago) link

I would watch a show with an actual marsupial David Caruso. Maybe the technology that created that talking/rapping kangaroo hallucination in Kangaroo Jack could be used. Sitcom?

mh, Friday, 24 October 2008 04:31 (fifteen years ago) link

YYYAAAOOOOOW!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Friday, 24 October 2008 05:22 (fifteen years ago) link

this show is just fine. x-files was corny more than half the time...
but the science almost makes sense in this show and I love the scientist and his son characters. lydia is ok

CaptainLorax, Friday, 24 October 2008 05:27 (fifteen years ago) link

is lydia the blond chick?
it is a bad sign to not know the main character's name several episodes into a season.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Friday, 24 October 2008 05:30 (fifteen years ago) link

yep

CaptainLorax, Friday, 24 October 2008 05:35 (fifteen years ago) link
