I still don't understand why Kenan walked out while ordering a Jimmy John's sandwich. Because they were going to put it on... bread?

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:34 (eleven years ago) link

A whole loaf of bread?

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:34 (eleven years ago) link

Aw goddamnit. Don't make me explain a joke. There's nothing more tedious, for everyone involved. Just let it go.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:41 (eleven years ago) link

I didn't know there was a joke.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:51 (eleven years ago) link

Alright, you guys love bread and I don't. I see how it is.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:59 (eleven years ago) link

brag brag

caro's johnson (Eazy), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 01:04 (eleven years ago) link

Only beef I have with Jimmy Johns is that I get the Slim 2 (roast beef, bread, that's it) and it's priced a bit high for just that.

caro's johnson (Eazy), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 01:06 (eleven years ago) link

Nice write up, E!

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 01:31 (eleven years ago) link

I hate sandwich shops altogether. They push giant cheap loaves of bread wrapped sloppily around shitty pieces of meat and TONS AND TONS OF MAYONNAISE if you don't say say out loud, "STOP putting mayonnaise on that!" It's crazy. It's like they can skimp on every other ingredient as long as they put a whole ass-crack load of oily mayonnaise on every sandwich. It's truly disgusting. It's the worst food yet invented by someone other than the evil Queen in Snow White.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 01:53 (eleven years ago) link

Wow, nice, EZ!

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:00 (eleven years ago) link

FYI Potbelly doesn't put anything on your sandwich without asking 1st. I always get mustard and not mayo.

Also, that article is awesome Eazy. Congrats!

Did anyone else see tHe sunset tonight? I've never seen another like it. I took this shitty iPhone pic, which is not worth more than a vague description

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:02 (eleven years ago) link

Whoa. Well done.

cue "White Rabbit" (kenan), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:04 (eleven years ago) link

Gah, that picture is shit.

The western sky was black except at the horizon where the sun was blazing as seen in the pic, but sheets of rain obscured the glow, and big white lightning arced amid the black and red clouds. Just amazing.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:07 (eleven years ago) link

jesse that picture is amazing. it looks like an a-bomb is going off.

deploying a sewer otter unit (askance johnson), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:09 (eleven years ago) link

thanks. i'm happy with it as a snapshot, but there was actually blue-white lighting in the shot. and the contrast between the black, black clouds and the terrifying sunset isn't there. at least you can see a little bit of the sheets of rain.

i have a point and shoot Canon camera, but for the life o' me that would have been way better, i can't find the damn charger.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:13 (eleven years ago) link

I never eat at subway/jimmy johns downtown because I'm always close to a Hannah's, which is infinitely better.

Jeff, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:14 (eleven years ago) link

oops - see if you can spot the mistake in that last sentence

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:17 (eleven years ago) link

everyone should go to Z&H in hyde park for a sandwich sometime, I'm sure I've evangelized for them before

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:20 (eleven years ago) link

also I saw that sunset while leaving the laundromat and grocery store, and with the added lightning it was awesome indeed

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 02:21 (eleven years ago) link

i feel like we have the sandwich chain every week or two. for the record, i find jimmy john's more palatable than most of the sandwich chains because i like their thick sandwich bread and their fake guacamole. however, their sandwiches always give me heartburn for some reason.

we ate at big bricks last night. it was good (had pizza with pureed artichoke sauce instead of tomato sauce), seems like it would be a chill hang-out place. wasn't that busy (at 6:30ish) and they were playing old reggae at a reasonable volume. they have some tvs but the one in the back room wasn't even on. looks like they'll have a back patio set up soon too.

we also went to black dog gelato. i had cinnamon brown sugar gelato and salted peanut gelato.

sorry that should have been "i feel like we have the sandwich chain DISCUSSION every YEAR or two." i'm having serious serious allergy problems and it's messing with my brain.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 15:21 (eleven years ago) link

maybe you need a sandwich on a loaf of bread

game of crones (La Lechera), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 15:24 (eleven years ago) link

I love JJ's sub roll bread. I've said it a million times before, but it's delicious with just butter or butter and cheddar cheese.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 15:30 (eleven years ago) link

And they sell it for 50 cents when it's "expired," a few hours after it's baked.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 15:32 (eleven years ago) link

going out for lunch today if anyone wants to meet up (not at jimmy johns). flexible as to time and location. but if no one wants to meet up, i'll just go to chipotle.

I'm going home early because I feel decidedly unwell.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:01 (eleven years ago) link

pobrecita -- get well soon carl!
having an earache is the pits.

game of crones (La Lechera), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:02 (eleven years ago) link

I'm so pitiful right now! It's really sad. I keep pawing at my ear and whining like a dog.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:09 (eleven years ago) link

go home! take a cab. i firmly believe in taking a cab home when sick after i barfed in the clark/lake station.

game of crones (La Lechera), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:10 (eleven years ago) link

that was the judy baar-topinka brochure incident

game of crones (La Lechera), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:10 (eleven years ago) link

I have to do something at 1 pm (which is why I didn't call in altogether) and then I am definitely cabbing it home. I am sort of afraid I'll fall down the El steps or something because I'm a dizzy rascal. I should be on the couch and snoozing to episodes of Arrested Development by 2.

game of crones (La Lechera), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:27 (eleven years ago) link

Ugh, your stupid ears! Why won't they just work right?

Pita Malört (Je55e), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:27 (eleven years ago) link

A doctor wanted to put tubes in my ears when I was a kid and my mom said no so I blame her.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:29 (eleven years ago) link

unfortunately i read that as pubes and am STILL LAUGHING
this is not appropriate final exam behavior

game of crones (La Lechera), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:29 (eleven years ago) link

I am ready to try putting pubes in my ears if I thought it would work.

pube-based ear hair extensions --> no more ear infections
you read it here first, folks

game of crones (La Lechera), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:31 (eleven years ago) link

Definitely trying it after work.

game of crones (La Lechera), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:33 (eleven years ago) link

If Q continues to have ear infections at the rate he's had them so far, we may have to consider tubes in his ears (not ready for the highly experimental pubes approach just yet). I'll take carl's situation into account if and when we need to consider that option.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:35 (eleven years ago) link

tbf to my mom, I don't know if tubes would have mattered. I think I basically have the eustachean tubes of a three year old.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:37 (eleven years ago) link

Like, it would probably be useful for me to have tubes in my ears now, but I don't know if it would have mattered if I'd had them as a kid.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:38 (eleven years ago) link

What do the tubes do? Are they permanent?
