Happy birthday, n/a.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 13:49 (eleven years ago) link

I had to go on FB to confirm that it was really your birthday bc I couldn't remember and I feared Carl was laying a trap.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 13:50 (eleven years ago) link

Happy birthday n/a! Hope you get to do something fun.

Ear infections are awful carl, hang in there.

Oh hey Nick, I had a dream about you last night. You had somehow experienced The Afterlife (without dying) but were annoyed that it was basically just like Life On Earth. Happy birthday.

Did you know the Map Room opens at 6:30 AM every weekday?

I knew that they were a coffee bar in the A.M., but do they serve beer, too? I don't know if y'all have been to K's Dugout (at Foster and ... Winchester, maybe?), but they used to open around that time as well since they catered to a lot of third-shift workers who wanted a drink when they got off work.

Carrie Antwoord (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 14:28 (eleven years ago) link

Why does K's Dugout sound so familiar?? Did we go there for your b-day drinks one time, John?

Rossi's on State St. opens at 7:00, or did years ago when I went there at 8:00 a.m. to pick up a jacket I left there the night before. There were 2 or 3 crusty looking men in there drinking beer at that time.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 14:30 (eleven years ago) link

Quite possibly, Jesse. I haven't been there in years, but I drank there occasionally when I lived in the area. Kr still gives me shit b/c one time when we were there, I cavalierly told a middle-aged working-class dude that he should take a job he'd been offered on an oil rig in the Persian Gulf. I was all "You'll regret it if you don't!" -- which is the kind of thing 20-something college grads use as justifications for their decisions, but I obv. didn't know shit about his life.

Carrie Antwoord (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 14:37 (eleven years ago) link

We had someone's birthday afterparty there years ago, maybe that's it? K_lsey was there.

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 14:46 (eleven years ago) link

If the circumstances were right I think I could drink beer @ 6:30 am.

K's Dugout was a New Years Eve site in '05, if you were there then with me and Jaymc, Je55e.

Kay's Nappy Dugout

^^^was considering posting something like this but decided it was in poor taste

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 16:25 (eleven years ago) link

Now I'm trying to keep from posting another joke about Kay's Nappy Dugout being a poor taste, but that would also be in poor taste.

JVC, I was trying to make a joke. It was a dumb joke. I hope you didn't think I was being rude to you.

I like the idea of the mayor riding his bike around behind John's apartment, pausing to stare up at his kitchen windows.

WORST Jimmy John's experience ever (still better than most Subway visits):

- They no longer serve alfalfa sprouts - HALF THE POINT OF JIMMY JOHN'S IMO is ALFALFA SPROUTS!!
- The cashier was uncharacteristically sullen. When I changed my mind and decided to add a cookie, she jabbed the register and muttered the new total
- The roast beef on my sandwich was simply horrible :( It was riddled with unchewable fat and connective tissue and dripping w/ mayo

Also, it took an unusually long time to get my order. Can't complain b/c it was still only like 3 or 4 minutes, but normally it's done before I've even put my wallet back in my pocket.

I wonder if this "Mayor" is the dude who owns the lot and with whom I once had a minor skirmish after he blocked the alley with his car.

Carrie Antwoord (jaymc), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 19:15 (eleven years ago) link

It was my one sure place to get sprouts in this cruel city.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 19:16 (eleven years ago) link

In that empty lot.

Jimmy Johns actually came by the library today and dropped off like 15 free mini-sandwiches for some strange reason. As a thank you for being awesome I guess. Anyway, so yay Jimmy Johns.

I actually told them "if any of your jimmy johns comrades serve a man named Jesse K*** today, make sure to give him horrible service and food"

deploying a sewer otter unit (askance johnson), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 19:25 (eleven years ago) link

See, that's the kind of personalized service I expect from them.

I really liked Jimmy John's for a long time. Okay, "really liked" is an overstatement, but I would sometimes buy sandwiches from there on purpose when I had other options, because I specifically wanted a sandwich from Jimmy John's. But it's like there's a Jimmy John's punchcard in my heart, and they used up all their punches, because about three months ago I was just like... nope. I no longer like Jimmy John's.
