I'm trying to figure out if I really like Jessa or not. ie Britisher.

I kind of like the way she goes about things. Except for showing up late to everything bcz that makes me IA. Feel like it's going to be awkward city once she starts fucking Weed-Dad.

I have the biggest crush on her, her hippyish ways notwithstanding. I kind of think that Weed-Dad's wife is cottoning on to her husband's attraction.

she's the only one of the central four that i really dislike so far. then again, she's the only one outside hannah who's at all interesting.

I like that she does what she wants but I cannot conceive of this as a practical lifestyle in any way shape or form, lol

I think that's the comedy of her character though. She's just walking around like some 3rd Rock From The Sun alien and everyone just totally buys it

Suspect they will keep sincere carpenter bf in the show even if they stay broken up, what with how much character he's acquired recently.

Dreading what might happen when we exhaust the auteur scripts, hope show does not go to hell.

It's kind of emblematic of a pretty blithe girl used to getting what she wants. Didin't the wife basically say, 'don't worry I get those sent to me in the mail', i.e., 'keep it, I don't know where your lips have been'?

oh yeah, forgot about that! shoshanna's dialogue during that scene was 100% great.

Carpenter Charlie suddenly turned into a great character with that whole diary thing.

I feel like the Diary Song was my turning point in liking the show...it was a good way to give a group of characters something to DO finally

and otm re shoshanna, I loved that whole exchange with the boy from camp, all of it felt very real and sweet and funny and she was way less annoying to me after that

hannah: exasperation and occasionally the same kind of really unpleasant identification i had with mark in peep show (i had to stop watching peep show for this reason)

shoshanna: pity (i mean there's not a lot to hold on to in this characterization so far but i haven't seen the last episode)

jessa: amused attraction

marnie: total hatred, not partic proud of it but there it is

Yeah, I didn't make too much of it except that they both kind of used each other.

Also, ex bf's style was intolerable so eff him.

I kinda liked it (esp on the windowsill through the fire escape, that was a nice touch). and that guy's motivations were pretty douchey so no love lost there, really.

I just find her 'principles' very interesting and I kind of enjoy her because she's just so different to the other girls. I like that she just acts on her urges and isn't caught up with the social explanations for things...but I wonder if she knows how to be anything but fuckable, because of that.

she's funny to me because she reminds me of spectacularly bad relationships i've been in with sexy, "free spirited" women prone to wrapped skirts

I also like her because she doesn't wear giant heels and mid-thigh skirts LIKE EVERYONE ELSE IN THIS SHOW

Marnie just leaves me cold. I can see why she might be thought attractive but I just don't see a lot of there there and what I do seems insipid. Shoshanna is funny but that kind of desperation makes me squirm. Hannah is exasperating but if you can avoid getting her hackles up, she seems like she'd be fun to hang with. They all would make me rather exhausted to have to deal with for any great length of time.

Marnie is probably my least favorite; she's just so, I dunno, emotionally dishonest with herself? And with her boyfriend. Her whole relationship with him was horrid.

But now we get to see her go on the rebound w/arty types!

well they're all that! idk i know plenty of twentysomethings capable of a reasonable level of thoughtfulness.

I think part of the show's shtick is how immature they all are. I'm not accusing all 23-year-olds of being like this but they sure seem to be.

yeah, she was jerky and he got hurt, but then again, he asked for it and should have known better. nothing that happened there inclined me to take sides with either of them. plus they were both ridiculous and horrible to hannah about the not-a-journal, enough so that i figured they deserved whatever they got.

some more than others for sure. there's just sort of an emotional finding-your-way about your early 20's that does ring kinda true with some of their situations, for sure. at least for me, anyway.
