M@tt wasn't Bubble Up's big hit "Drawin' Blood"? Abt excessive jerking off?

― chr1sb3singer, Monday, May 14, 2012 11:52 AM (13 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

oh god yeah haha that was the shock rap one....bubble up enters a jerking off competition and pushes themselves past the uh limit:

"drawin' blood
no pain, no gain
takin' one for the team
goin' waaaay paaast cream"

Bandersnatch Cumberbund (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 14 May 2012 17:06 (eleven years ago) link

that reminds me of a thread i've been meaning to start

(uh not about beating off)

goole, Monday, 14 May 2012 17:08 (eleven years ago) link

"Goin' way past cream" is a top ten song lyric ever

they did a whole "album" (cassette)

Please mediafire this cassette album. Thanks.

im pretty enthusiastic about challops but it`s easier & more fun to challop irl than on ilx

flopson, Monday, 14 May 2012 17:11 (eleven years ago) link

sadly i think it's a lost album at this point

Bandersnatch Cumberbund (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 14 May 2012 17:11 (eleven years ago) link

also it's probably better to read about than listen to - just like kitty pryde!

Bandersnatch Cumberbund (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 14 May 2012 17:11 (eleven years ago) link

well, except that it's actually fun to read about

raps that you composed for school or while young

not sure i agree with that

the late great, Monday, 14 May 2012 17:35 (eleven years ago) link

you can definitely present CHALLENGING OPINIONS as an entertaining and possibly edifying conversation-starter irl, whereas if you do it on ilx you just get shouted down or zinged from all sides, whether deservingly or not

kitty shayme (some dude), Monday, 14 May 2012 17:38 (eleven years ago) link

you can definitely present CHALLENGING OPINIONS as an entertaining and possibly edifying conversation-starter irl

i think you can do that on ilx too, like especially if your name is dave q or whatever

the late great, Monday, 14 May 2012 17:42 (eleven years ago) link

i admire & probably try to emulate the way characters in whit stillman movies challop, sort of fabulist or whimsical, but seductive. "you don't have to read a book to have an opinion" or the thing about clichés in the newest one. otoh i've probably done more than my share of, like, drunkenly defending early nickelback singles or something equally heinous

flopson, Monday, 14 May 2012 17:46 (eleven years ago) link

i prefer literary criticism because then you get the author's point and the critic's point

Mordy, Monday, 14 May 2012 17:49 (eleven years ago) link

well i'm talking about ilx in 2012. a dave q era thread probably resembles a small casual converstaion more than it resembles 'tumblr rapper kitty pryde.'

I actually went "ok, scarlet letter that dude, he reps for the Paris Hilton album" to the Lex in my mind back when but then one day I was getting my hair cut and there was some pretty chill dance stuff playing & I was getting into it & I asked Paul, Paul, what is this music, and he says "this is the Paris Hilton album, I love it," and my mind was forever blown so I called up PH and said "I am sorry for judging you" and we cried. True story

loathe my life for having nothing better to do on a monday night than read this whole thread

i didnt hate those kp choons, quite liked them in fact. ur lying to yourself if 'kathryn obvious' isnt some prime mf doom

idk sorry to be glib but a lot of this frowny rap fan rancour seems pretty uselessly antiquated, seems to me the cultural vocabulary has long bled past the point where if someone does a vaguely transverse move you can point at paul barman and case closed. and yeah that even does go as far as covering max b

i'm the same gen as most of you lot i imagine and all this makes me think of is like, arab strap and sofia coppolla film soundtracks and bleary sentimental whatever whatever. like haha remember that shitty french band the teenagers? death to indiedrome long live the new flesh

Okay, late to the thread, but that Juicee Kouture track is lols a billion. Catchy, but so laughably bad at the same time.

okay, i'm glad i'm not alone in thinking this isn't the worst shit that ever happened to music

it's not the worst thing that ever happened to music, and i don't think anyone itt has been that hyperbolic about it, but it's not good.

man down (D-40), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 00:19 (eleven years ago) link

i think that's a really revealing thing to say tbh and maybe says a lot about how you are listening to this music

Mordy, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 00:28 (eleven years ago) link

otm

to me, at least, it sounds like a precocious teenager talking about her experiences in an occasionally witty way. i don't find it offensive and it doesn't make me angry, which is why a lot of this thread is incomprehensible to me.

Mordy, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 00:33 (eleven years ago) link

you guys sound like dumb stoners imploring people to be open-minded

flopson, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 00:34 (eleven years ago) link

well, i'm definitely at least one of those things

Mordy, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 00:34 (eleven years ago) link

sort of strawmanning to claim anybody is getting angry about her music

the late great, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 00:35 (eleven years ago) link

you guys sound like dumb stoners imploring people to be open-minded

that, in turn, sounds like dumb attempt to silence people who disagree with you

really? no one? i know u can scroll up as easily as i can and find a quick example. i'm pretty sure i c/p'ed one like ten posts or so up xp

Mordy, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 00:36 (eleven years ago) link

'dumb' was cruel coming from flopson but when you're right etc

Mordy, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 00:38 (eleven years ago) link

let's not hide between passive aggressive bullshit tho

like, i feel like we all ~know~ that the appeal is manic pixie dream girl already

what is being said here? that vice magazine gave coverage to this artist bc the editorial staff fantasized about being in a relationship with her?

Mordy, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 00:41 (eleven years ago) link

not actually, think it's more like that they like her persona, which i don't think is a particularly novel criticism of vice, i mean that's pretty much what people say about a lot of the celebrities that vice promotes (thinking terry richardson and dash snow for two)

anyway i scrolled up and the only thing you c/p'ed is whiney and its pretty clear whiney isn't so much complaining about kitty pryde as he is vice and complex

the late great, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 00:43 (eleven years ago) link

sort of strawmanning to claim anybody is getting angry about her music

i think there's a kind of blunt insistence to some of the "this sucks" posting that reads not as angry, perhaps, but as weirdly and even belligerently intolerant. people are posting as though the complete suckyness of this music is a settled issue, as though it's flat-out impossible that any sensible person might disagree. no substantial critique of the music has been offered, and certainly none that engages with it on its own terms, just some swipes at the hype machine.

idk why i'd stand up for vice tbh, except that i'm sleepy. it's pretty much the worst magazine in the world
