I'm thinking about taking over the music video poll idea from gr80 - would you guys mind this being a stand-alone set of polls, or would you prefer if they were queued with the artist polls? I don't really take part in single artist ones so I don't suffer from music poll fatigue, but I don't want anyone else to feel too burdened by pollage...

(Also, if anyone wants to offer to help me out, as I've never run a poll before...)

emil.y, Sunday, 13 May 2012 15:32 (eleven years ago) link

I think that one would be fine, preferable even, outside the list of artist polls and could be started anytime. It's a bigger, broader category, like postwar jazz albums or the entire decade of the 1950s. Just my 2 cents.

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Sunday, 13 May 2012 15:41 (eleven years ago) link

No one's proposed a Black Sabbath poll? It'll be interesting to see their playlist at their Birmingham show on May 19th. Anyone going? Does someone have to die in order for the Sabbath poll to be slotted after Beastie Boys? Hopefully Iommi will pull through, though Bill Ward's health is often touch and go. For the record I would like for none of them to die.

I am currently reading aero's book (bought because i'm a mountain goats stan) and have been listening to Sabbath for the first time. Really enjoying them and would like to be a n00b lurker for such a poll.

CHAMP1-6NS (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 13 May 2012 16:36 (eleven years ago) link

really curious to see if pre-buckingham/nicks lineups get any love on the fleetwood mac poll

buzza, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 06:42 (eleven years ago) link

I seem to recall Peter Green getting some love on at least one of the FM threads.

Leslie Mann: Boner Machine (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 07:08 (eleven years ago) link

Beasties/Abba/Mac is such a fascinating run because I genuinely don't have a clue what the winners will be.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 07:15 (eleven years ago) link

Time to start thinking ABBA thoughts -- Donna Rouge, is this still a go?

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 13:48 (eleven years ago) link

bump for D.R.

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 15:51 (eleven years ago) link

lol this is the first time I've ever opened this thread and GD that's a long list. So I was going to offer to do one for Erasure but I don't know if there'd be enough interest or if it would wind up just me and Abbott voting tbh. Hmmmmm.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:41 (eleven years ago) link

Not too interested in an Erasure poll but would be in a Vince Clarke poll.

fun loving and xtremely tolrant (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 18:54 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, I'd thought of that as an option too.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 18:58 (eleven years ago) link

sorry i haven't been paying this much attention but i can still do ABBA once i figure out how to actually start and run one of these polls

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 19:09 (eleven years ago) link

it's been the same template for each one more or less, right?

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 19:10 (eleven years ago) link

More or less, because it works well, but it's your call really.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 19:11 (eleven years ago) link

I liked that once the voting opened, I had a few days to sit and ponder Finefinemusic's spreadsheet template and figure out how to shot data. I used it for the tracks voting but did albums and Most Hated by pencil/paper.

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 19:19 (eleven years ago) link

i can start the voting thread today wmc?

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 19:21 (eleven years ago) link

OK by me! I think Johnny Fever is going to get all the way to #1 on Beastie Boys tracks today, and I think he's doing a countdown of BB videos tomorrow, but no reason not to start ABBA today. I try not to be Lord High Boss of all this stuff other than just maintaining the list, so however you want to do it is the right way to do it.

improvised explosive advice (WmC), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 19:24 (eleven years ago) link

ok, i might not start it til later today or tomorrow possibly

yorba linda carlisle (donna rouge), Wednesday, 16 May 2012 19:25 (eleven years ago) link

ABBA voting is open!

Don't go wasting all your ballots/Lay all your votes on me -- ILM Artist Poll #20 -- ABBA (voting thread)

It occurred to me a little while ago that Devo might be a fun poll.

Trey Imaginary Songz (WmC), Saturday, 19 May 2012 13:56 (eleven years ago) link

Naive Teen Idol has requested that we do a memorial Bee Gees poll and I volunteered to do it (altho I am skeptical of high voter turnout) what say ye

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 21 May 2012 17:01 (eleven years ago) link

Bee Gees + Gibb brothers as producers/songwriters, I'd suggest. Would vote.

Jeff W, Monday, 21 May 2012 17:06 (eleven years ago) link

yeah would definitely include non-Bee Gees material, I would think there is some consensus that their chief strength is as songwriters

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 21 May 2012 17:10 (eleven years ago) link

Coming in at No. 1, ISLANDS IN THE STREAM

pplains, Monday, 21 May 2012 17:12 (eleven years ago) link

that song is great

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 21 May 2012 17:14 (eleven years ago) link

We could call it "POLLman Milk Your POLL"!

Naive Teen Idol, Monday, 21 May 2012 17:15 (eleven years ago) link

Imagine Al Green's "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" would do well.

clemenza, Monday, 21 May 2012 17:15 (eleven years ago) link

I would love a Bee Gees poll

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 21 May 2012 17:17 (eleven years ago) link

do I need to wait for the okay from WmC...?

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 21 May 2012 17:19 (eleven years ago) link

Whatever y'all wanna do.

Trey Imaginary Songz (WmC), Monday, 21 May 2012 17:20 (eleven years ago) link

okay I'll do it

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 21 May 2012 17:22 (eleven years ago) link

I just need to make sure I can finish Neil Young by late August--so should be fine. But no more major pop stars are allowed to die between now and then.

clemenza, Monday, 21 May 2012 17:24 (eleven years ago) link

uh where is that voting tabulation spreadsheet template...

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 21 May 2012 17:25 (eleven years ago) link

You hear that, docherty?

Ismael Klata, Monday, 21 May 2012 17:26 (eleven years ago) link

Awesome!

Naive Teen Idol, Monday, 21 May 2012 17:29 (eleven years ago) link

Shakey, you rock, btw.

Naive Teen Idol, Monday, 21 May 2012 17:29 (eleven years ago) link

Anybody mind if I just call this one #20B (B for Bee Gees, fnarr) rather than redo the numbering again?

Trey Imaginary Songz (WmC), Monday, 21 May 2012 17:59 (eleven years ago) link

you disgusting savage

Johnny Fever, Monday, 21 May 2012 18:15 (eleven years ago) link

Man, listening to Gibb songs and ABBA songs back and forth over the next couple weeks is gonna do me in with AWESOMENESS. (And then Fleetwood Mac after these.)

Johnny Fever, Monday, 21 May 2012 18:17 (eleven years ago) link

otm

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 21 May 2012 18:17 (eleven years ago) link

a disco poll would honour both Summer and Gibb

gospodin simmel, Monday, 21 May 2012 18:19 (eleven years ago) link

oh too late, never mind

gospodin simmel, Monday, 21 May 2012 18:19 (eleven years ago) link

concluding today with videos iirc

naw, I still haven't tabulated those. Dead cat, weekend work, sleepiness, y'know.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 21 May 2012 18:56 (eleven years ago) link

Abba and Bee Gees are definitely #1A when it comes to fashion sense.

Naive Teen Idol, Monday, 21 May 2012 19:01 (eleven years ago) link

I'm going to run a Brian Eno poll at #59. Excluding his work as a producer for hire, but including collabs with Cale, Fripp, Cluster, etc

Trey Imaginary Songz (WmC), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 21:20 (eleven years ago) link

I'd like to do a Wire poll, I suppose at #60.

Mad God 40/40 (Z S), Friday, 25 May 2012 20:12 (eleven years ago) link

Eno poll w/ productions would be so much more fun!
