i pretty much saw everything in my top ten (save two) before i was emotionally ready for them.

the first movie to ever truly scare the bejeezus out of me was pinocchio at age 3 or 4 though. apparently i was howling so bad by the monstro scene my mom dragged me out and then i started complaining that she had dragged me out.

Are we allowed to talk about things we're still catching up on because of the poll? Because I just watched The Sentinel on netflix insta and loved it. It was a LOT more bent than I was expecting, with a ridiculous cast (very young C Walken and J Goldblum and C Sarandon PLUS william dickey and eli wallach and Jerry Orbach are you fkin kiddin' me?) and a really superbly protean score from Gil Melle.

same here but mine was fantasia... night on bald mountain!

I also begged to go see grizzly when I was 5 and the first kill scene freaked me out so much we ended up in the next theater watching the bad news bears

yeah this movie rules. v underrated. "woman finds out her apt is a portal to hell" is a great premise too.

also, i don't scare particularly easy when watching movies but i thought it had some genuinely creepy moments.

Ha... I just added The Sentinel on netflix just to find this note at the top of my queue:

"Birdemic: Shock and Terror has been removed from your Queue. We no longer offer this movie for rental. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you find many other movies to enjoy at Netflix."

Do they do this with all movies? Kind of cracked me up that they singled it out and made a to do about it.

I kinda dug what The Sentinel was trying to achieve more than I dug the results. Plus, I always dig Cristina Raines.

Is today the day? I was looking for a good tagline to set the mood, and found these three lists:

"There's only one thing wrong with the Davis baby: it's alive." - this one is the creepiest, I think. So evocative.

Also like: "Man is the warmest place to hide."

This one, however, is a horror in its own right, so tortured and mangled is its grammar: "Please do not disturb Evelyn. She already is."

Did I already mention my favourite tagline-searching-for-a-film on this thread? Will offer it up for the Ilx Horror Movie:

Was on a train Saturday next to typical Park Slope couple and their 9-year-old who were discussing the merits and appropriateness of assorted horror movies. Dad advocated Hellraiser, Mom tentatively The Exorcist, kid wanted to know the diff btwn Alien and Predator. Boy's takeaway quote: "Ghostbusters isn't even scary!"

I think Alien is pretty much all-time unbeatable on taglines. I saw it on the posters years before I was allowed to see the movie, and it stuck with me. (Though I think Alien is kinda all-time unbeatable in lots of ways.)

My #1 would be the Texas Chainsaw tagline I quoted earlier in the thread: "Who will survive and what will be left of them?" Even though I'm not sure it makes sense--the one girl who survives technically survives intact (physically, anyway).

Yeah, it's a question, so the answer could be 'everyone and all of them'. Which it isn't, obviously, but it could be. Would be something of an anti-climax, I guess.
