Maron's Twitter exchange with Oswalt yesterday was pretty funny.

Yeah, I kind of enjoyed that exchange, particularly Oswalt's tweet about Jerry from Parks & Rec.

I am interested but hate Twitter and can't figure out how to see both of their posts at the same time.

Killer Beas is one of my favorite recent interviews. His unguarde attitudes about the south and racism were kind of unexpected. And the ambulance/funeral home stuff was A+

that grantland article is pretty bad, even as a parody of WTF. also ignores that it's a great interview tactic to drop a vulnerable admission about yourself in order to get the interviewee to open up.

I've been listening to the podcast too long; all I could think when I read it is 'oh man how much is it going to suck when Maron reads all this' because I could just see him underlining the phrases and criticisms and rewriting an angry email 20 times

Tho the Lorne Michaels obsession thing is pretty indisputable. I think Maron gets too much of a rep as the purity comic, see all of those Oswalt tweets. He's more like the 40 something ex-punk rocker dudes I work with who are kind of wondering where to go now that their youthful integrity codes have been defaced or made irrelevant.

he's mellowed SO much over the course of the podcast - if anything more should be made of how beneficial the podcast has been for him, more than anyone lol

Killer Beaz sort of surprised me by getting all Christiany toward the end...not preachy or anything, and I definitely understand why what happened in his life would steer him that direction...but that was an unusual turn on a Maron podcast. I love his whole vibe, though.

I really loved the Danny McBride one - he's just such a likable guy. The stories about fighting the abusive boyfriend of his ex, and his fantasy spec script about The Draven (half-dragon, half-man) - so much funny shit in that one.

Yeah, McBride was really enjoyable. I think Maron's going to want to be his buddy. Shit, I kind of want to.

Maron does seem to have gotten some real friendships out of the WTF project -- Scharpling for one -- which might be one of his motivators in doing it, and is a sort of deliberate reversal of the first half of his career.

I like the photo atop the Grantland article, because I imagine the interviews looking more like that than upright across a kitchen table.

i think i'm realizing that some of my problems with maron aren't problems with maron but with people i've known who aspire to have that kind of personality

I usually find this podcast a little too professional bro talk for my taste, but she was amazing! What a smarty. She really knows how to tell a story.

I remember that one being pretty good. I'm still catching up on this years and listened to the Mary Mack episode the other day. Her voice was cracking me up because I have relatives from far north Wisconsin and my female cousin sounds EXACTLY like her.

Does he always sort of recap what the guest has said so far every 5 min or so, or was he just doing that because her story was so totally ott?

If the story seems to him particularly "out there" or unusual, he will...I think it's more for him than us, lol

Anyone listen to Bo Burnham yet? I find that guy's act painfully unfunny, so I was wondering if his interview is worth sitting through.

Wow, I don't really follow Chelsea Handler at all, but I was shocked to see that she was only a year older than me. She has the wrecked voice of a 47 year-old that smokes constantly.

i thought the chelsea handler convo was great! she basically turned the tables on him.

haha yeah i kinda had the same reaction (she's a year older than me, too). tbf i figured she was a 42 year old who takes pretty dece care of herself.

I'm only ten minutes into her interview and she sounds like an awful person so far. Her dismissive, "is this your main source of income" to Marc re: the podcast was pretty awful.

Like I said, I'm just getting into it, but it doesn't read that way at all so far.

very small doses with that one, for me. four minutes of her monologue once a week or so and i'm like ok igi.

okay, I guess you can start to figure out her being mean to Marc is her "thing" when she says, "you do understand what sex is, right?". but she still sounds pretty awful to me.

the rick shapiro interview was old school WTF. some stand up i've never heard of being semi-pissed at Maron and talking about a bodybuilder mouth-raping him.

I love the WTF episodes with truly big-time comedians (Russell Peters, Patton Oswalt, Handler) and Maron's combination of envy and judgment. The Handler one made for such an enjoyably tense interview because it was clear that she hadn't heard the podcast and didn't know how it worked.

Did anyone here listen to that new Marc and Tom ep? I was wondering what maron said about his phone call with Jon stewart

Stewart basically told Maron that Maron had really been a dick to Stewart back in the day & he'd rather not go on the show. But he's welcome to grab a coffee anytime.

ie you don't get to work this out on your show. talk to me in person, like a grownup & we'll see what happens.

can't blame him. maron has that "well if I'm sorry that makes it okay" thing that only goes so far.

...there was also the conclusion drawn that just because you are ready to apologize doesn't mean the other person is ready to forgive. Scharpling made noises of complete understanding and didn't mention PF Tompkins by name, but it was pretty clear that he knew what Maron was talking about.
