I think yours and emil.y's are going to have the most "things I not seen and need to see ASAP" value for me.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 14:13 (eleven years ago) link

things I HAVE not seen, OBVIOUSLY. GOD.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 14:13 (eleven years ago) link

How have I never known of the existence of "Miracle Mile" before this minute? Looks really fun.

Advanced Uncle Meat recovery system (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 14:31 (eleven years ago) link

not a big fan of miracle mile but it does have rabid supporters out there. ending is kinda like whoa.

ballot sent...

fuuuuuuuuu i woulda totally voted for angst

jesus christ (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 15:14 (eleven years ago) link

ha, I did vote for angst. I think it was my one and only non-nommed vote, not sure how it slipped by.

it's at least 15 years ahead of its time in style and technique. wish the director would let the original cut be screened but he's gone all lucas on us.

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 15:36 (eleven years ago) link

OK, I am now sitting at 49 ballots. I know I said I would close the polls about one half-hour from now, but I know there's got to be at least one more ballot sitting out there somewhere, right?

jungleous butterflies strange birds (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 15:39 (eleven years ago) link

hey look, that page the good doctor linked to offers a free download of the angst soundtrack!

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 15:43 (eleven years ago) link

I think you should hold out for the magic number, Eric. To have accumulated one short of your stated goal & have to stop at that point.. you'd think morbs could at least eke out a quick top-20, right?

fishermen are coveted by whores & stoners (Pillbox), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 15:45 (eleven years ago) link

can I just make up a ballot of every whale, tourner, and silent horror movie and submit it on morbs' behalf

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 15:46 (eleven years ago) link

Can't get mine done for 36 hrs at least.

I happen to love Cronenberg's The Fly, smartypants

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 15:47 (eleven years ago) link

I will wait for Morbs' ballot.

jungleous butterflies strange birds (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 15:49 (eleven years ago) link

If anyone wants an extension beyond, oh, say the next couple hours, they need to state it explicitly in this thread.

jungleous butterflies strange birds (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 15:49 (eleven years ago) link

i could vote twice if that would help, got all these sockpuppets lying around doing nothing.

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 15:52 (eleven years ago) link

I am sending mine RIGHT NOW.

i love the large auns pictures! (Phil D.), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 15:53 (eleven years ago) link

Miracle Mile unnerved the shit outta me when I was 10.

Can't wait for Walter Chaw's upcoming book on the film.

Look at how funky he is! (jer.fairall), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 16:10 (eleven years ago) link

I will send you mine in abt 30 minutes!

Hierophantiasis (Jon Lewis), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 16:47 (eleven years ago) link

When do you think the rollout will begin, Eric?

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 16:50 (eleven years ago) link

You should be receiving a ballot from "Mustachioed Ponies" soon.

He will have a deep voice and will probably be wearing sunglasses and a trenchcoat.

I can do another ballot where I remember Vampyr and Night of the Hunter.

Kevin John Bozelka, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 17:12 (eleven years ago) link

I was originally aiming to rollout starting next Monday, but I think I'll need an extra day or two to gather some quotes. Haven't even started that yet.

jungleous butterflies strange birds (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 17:22 (eleven years ago) link

I figure groups of 15 over seven days (last day = 10) should be grand.

jungleous butterflies strange birds (Eric H.), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 17:23 (eleven years ago) link

I would very much like Morbs to get in a ballot, as I'm hoping he might bump up some of the older stuff (not an age joke). Although I'd like oddities to make it in, and I don't really give a shit about established canon, I'll definitely be annoyed if there's barely anything pre-50s...

emil.y, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 17:30 (eleven years ago) link

Just sent mine. I hope I listed them correctly-- 50. is my favorite, 49. is my second favorite, 1. is my least fave out of these 50, etc.

Hierophantiasis (Jon Lewis), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 17:38 (eleven years ago) link

It's crazy how many of my all-time favorite movies on the list I had to disallow for not being horror by my compass.

Ha yeah. My top three aren't just my favorite horror movies; they're my favorite movies.

I think I forgot Night of the Hunter! After all that talk. Sheesh.

^^^^ otm!!!! i hadn't realized that before i made this list, but yes.
life is horrifying, people are terrible, and horror movies are the best.

agree w/ all this. tho there are over 10 canon films from the 60s/70s I dropped from my ballot to make room for other stuff, my breakdown by decade still looks like:

20s - 2
30s - 2
40s - 1
50s - 3
60s - 7
70s - 18
80s - 8
90s - 5
00s - 4

apparently 1973 was the most horrifying year on record, and, with one off-the-wall exception, all my post 80s picks ended up being non-US.

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 18:46 (eleven years ago) link

kino's blu-ray of ganja and hess came out yesterday. one of my last ballot cuts.

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 19:23 (eleven years ago) link

Burton's Dark Shadows is set in 1972, which explains why it's not horrifying I guess.

lol, yeah, there isn't much difference between my "favorite horror movies" list and my "favorite movies" list, thought the former doesn't include like the philadelphia story and repo man.

i did not forget to vote for night of the hunter

10. “Pour Some Sugar On Me” – Tom Cruise (contenderizer), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 21:20 (eleven years ago) link

Man. Listening to Mancini's score to Lifeforce right now and it's so damn good. Meant to see the movie in time for this poll, but a long visit from the mother-in-law prevented that. Maybe I'd have ended up with three Tobe Hooper joints on my ballot instead of two...

Hierophantiasis (Jon Lewis), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 22:28 (eleven years ago) link

Sweet. I wondered if anyone else voted for Spontaneous Combustion and The Mangler.

OK, I'm calling it. Balloting is officially closed ...

UNLESS you can provide me a compelling excuse for your tardy ballot while I await Morbs' ballot, which I granted an extension. If I like your story enough and you're reasonably hasty, I'll let it slide.

jungleous butterflies strange birds (Eric H.), Thursday, 10 May 2012 04:35 (eleven years ago) link

I'm just waiting to see which Rest Stop movie will place higher.
