I've received 37 ballots total, counting my own as well.

make that 38.

come on, two more, people! nice round 40 would be a good voter base to work from. not that it makes much difference, really...

If people don't have the time to put together a ballot I would gladly email mine to them and they can submit it as their own

I'm excited for these results. I'm going to use them as inspiration for my 2012 It Came from Behind the Couch horror movie marathon.

Although the turnout is a little disappointing, it should hopefully give some of the more oddball picks a chance to shine.

Mine is available as well, with as much (or little) room as you want for adjustments and changes. Drag and drop! It's easy!

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Monday, 7 May 2012 23:09 (eleven years ago) link

My votes are in now. Not that I've been able to give as much time and watching to this as I'd have liked.

Cragenham Craig (Craigo Boingo), Monday, 7 May 2012 23:37 (eleven years ago) link

sent! god it feels good to finally remember to vote in one of these damn things.

jesus christ (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 00:28 (eleven years ago) link

will probably hate my ballot in 20 minutes or less but at least it's off my desktop.

jesus christ (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 00:29 (eleven years ago) link

I'm going to finally send in my ballot. I never noticed if there is a preferred format - I was going to do a numbered Google text doc, but could also do a Google spreadsheet.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 00:37 (eleven years ago) link

That seems like a dumb question now. I'm going to send a spreadsheet.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 00:38 (eleven years ago) link

Just finishing up, and I notice nobody nominated The Fall of the House of Usher. Bah. Perfectly happy to give its points to the Pit and the Pendulum, mind.

emil.y, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 00:39 (eleven years ago) link

This is difficult.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 00:54 (eleven years ago) link

my list turned out like 33 percent canon, 33 percent childhood faves, 33 percent indefensible nonsense.

unlike ed3, i was surprised how many 21st century flicks showed.

jesus christ (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 00:57 (eleven years ago) link

I think my list is relatively canon - I'm expecting the majority of my top ten to place, and place high.

Seeing as I did a decade breakdown of my ballot for the comedy poll, I figured it wouldn't be too spoilery to do one for this:

1920s - 2
1930s - 2
1940s - 1
1950s - 0
1960s - 16
1970s - 18
1980s - 9
1990s - 2
2000s - 0
2010s - 0

emil.y, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 01:09 (eleven years ago) link

I submitted my ballot.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 01:23 (eleven years ago) link

My decade-by-decade breakdown:

50s - 2
60s - 2
70s - 10
80s - 22
90s - 7
00s - 7

Nothing from this decade, and the two most recent films in my top 15 are six and seventeen years old, respectively.

You Don't Throw Oranges On An Escalator (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 01:52 (eleven years ago) link

The old bell curve:

30s – 2
40s – 2
50s – 2
60s – 8
70s – 9
80s – 8
90s – 3
00s – 1

clemenza, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 02:03 (eleven years ago) link

I guess I should submit a ballot for this

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 02:04 (eleven years ago) link

lol

jesus christ (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 02:04 (eleven years ago) link

OK, I'm not quite finished tabulating the ballots I have. It's still short of 50, but even if it weren't, I'm making this announcement official:

Balloting will be held open for at least another 36 hours and possibly longer if I feel lazy or generous.

Hence, I will still accept ballots provided they reach my inbox until 11 a.m. EST on Wednesday. Possibly a little longer, but I need to get st3v3 working on images so I can unveil the results starting next week.

jungleous butterflies strange birds (Eric H.), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 03:04 (eleven years ago) link

This is like that slacker sculpture class I was in, where I felt accomplished for finishing at the last minute rather than (like half of the rest of the class) two weeks beyond deadline.

You Don't Throw Oranges On An Escalator (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 03:21 (eleven years ago) link

jeez, if we got another couple days, i wanna pull and rejigger my ballot. not a want in need of actualization though...

10. “Pour Some Sugar On Me” – Tom Cruise (contenderizer), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 03:27 (eleven years ago) link

So as if to sanctify the end of the horror poll, I went into a pawn shop tonight and they had an unopened copy of the 4 disc ultimate edition of dawn of the dead that was unpriced, and when I brought it up to the counter the kid just looked up "dawn of the dead" and charged me 99 cents.

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 03:47 (eleven years ago) link

wow, nice!

my favorites represent a pretty narrow window in time. what can i say, i like what i like...

1920s: 1
1930s: 1
1940s: 0
1950s: 2
1960s: 5
1970s: 14

i will disclose my decade by decade thing once all the votes are in so as not to tip my hand

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:00 (eleven years ago) link

That's awesome, jjjusten. That set is a must.

You Don't Throw Oranges On An Escalator (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:01 (eleven years ago) link

i was pretty much ready and willing up to $25.

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:04 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, that set is cool.

ballot sent! I hate it already.

original bgm, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:05 (eleven years ago) link

Ballot sent, obvious omissions already piling up in my head, but whatever. Don't want to bother with decade count right now for all 50, but in my top 10, four are from the '70s, two each from the '60s and '80s, and one each from the '20s and '90s.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:07 (eleven years ago) link

I had no guiding principle that I could articulate, but I was surprised how some movies I like and would have guessed were easy contenders for top 20 didn't make it onto my list of 50.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:07 (eleven years ago) link

It is no coincidence that a good chunk of my top 10 came out while I was between 8 and 14.

any thoughts on whther to start w/the extended or the european cut? pretty sure the one that i have seen is the american theatrical

also buying that set was another moment of horrible ballot facepalming for me because dawn of the dead didnt make it, although i love it

was surprised by how lamestream my list turned out. i dig lots of the classics what can i say.

btw the director's cut of dawn of the dead is the one i usually go for but tbh that's mostly just bc it was the cut i played all the damn time on (double!) vhs in high school.

47 ballots in as of (almost) midnight. Very close to my own personal goal of 50!

I don't want to call any holdouts on this thread, and I won't. But there are a couple big holdouts I'll be disappointed to not see a ballot from, is all I'm saying.

jungleous butterflies strange birds (Eric H.), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:46 (eleven years ago) link

(Though I draw the line at emailing them directly.)

jungleous butterflies strange birds (Eric H.), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 04:48 (eleven years ago) link

honestly, i think the best version of DotD is the unrated american theatrical original that you probably grew up with. moves, contains all the essential business, became a classic for a reason. extended version is a nice companion piece, but the movie was hardly a model of efficiency to begin with (unlike NotLD), so the extension does it no real favors. european version is cool too, but substantially different, reedited and rescored by argento, a curiosity.

One argument for watching Argento's cut is that it lays the emotional and philosophical groundwork that gives one a richer appreciation of watching a zombie wrestle a shark.

You Don't Throw Oranges On An Escalator (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 05:19 (eleven years ago) link

(I would never in a million years claim that Zombi 2 is an even remotely good movie, but that particular scene is in the top 100 of film history.)

and "they are going to eat you" is one of the better tag lines for a film
