Halo has always seemed like one of the minor tracks on Violator to me, but Violator is so good that even its minor tracks are better than a lot of the rest of DM's catalogue.

Disagree -- they're masters of their game on this track. Rarely have their histrionics been used to such moving affect. Beautiful strings!

Everything about Behind the Wheel is perfect imo. It builds through the first verse, picks up steam in the second with the addition of the snare, and so on and so forth.

gonna roll my eyes at you guys so hard if you voted Enjoy the Silence #1, it's not even the best Violator single ("Policy of Truth", which still missed my ballot)

Only four of my twenty have placed so far, looks like I'm way off consensus on this one. And you might've picked a more appealing image for I Feel You - the girl in the video was very important to me once upon a time.

Glad to see I Feel You, I ended up placing that much higher than I thought I would once I'd relistened to it.

My first reaction on seeing these results is "OMG 'SEE YOU' IS ON SINGSTAR?!?!"

Can't wait until "What's Your Name?" shows up.

I know various members of Depeche Mode consider this to be one of their worst songs, but I can think of Depeche Mode songs that I dislike more.

It's not even close to being their worst song, even among singles, "It's Called a Heart", "It's Only When I Lose Myself" and maybe "See You" (sorry to the eleven people who voted for it) are worse.

Pleasantly surprised here ... it's not that Ultra isn't great, but that I don't think there's much consensus on what the best songs are (a big disadvantage in polls).

I do love It's No Good, even if I was influenced a bit by Alfred's takedown on the voting thread. The video is something else though - loads of laughs (including said smarmy face). Sometimes I'd say it's my favourite clip ever, but there're a lot of other Depeche clips pushing it hard.

Oh man, I love But Not Tonight so much - should have been top 10.

Me too. And I expect at least 5 of the remaining ones to show in the top 10. (Though I am a little amazed that all of the big Some Great Reward singles have already placed. Just my age, I guess, but those are so foundational to my idea of Depeche Mode.)

So happy to see Home make it. I gave it my number one vote. As I said in the other thread, the combination of those beautiful strings and the incredible vocal gets me everytime. Really happy to see Lie to me place so high too, great song.

See You is the only song in the list so far that I really just don't like at all. I've always hated how lazy the chorus sounds, it's the same problem I have with The Meaning of Love.

Walking In My Shoes is a classic piece of songwriting, terrific to bellow out passionately. I really like the long ebowed coda too. It reminds me of another tune from the era, Suede's 'Europe Is Our Playground', which ends on a similar guitar figure. Any other songs like this, structurally?

probably not (ask me again when i see what's to come) though i am surprised at zero #1 votes, it is a perfect little thing. clarke did better things later but (despite many attempts) he never quite managed another bauble that equaled this one.
