yeah, sry for the delay on mine, Eric. I should have it submitted tomorrow, though.

I just sent mine in. Sorry it took so long. I was hoping to rewatch more

Been super busy with end-of-semester stuff. I have a 48-item ballot ready to go but I've been putting off finding two more films and sending it for about two weeks... argh.

i'm posting one last minute. sorry but i'm really taking my time over this, care about it even more than the psb poll tbh.

aggggghhh. sent. nothing i can do about it now stop looking at it.

I do want to mention/pimp 2 that I cut at the last moment because they were just not quite horror enough (more revenge story really) that would have been in my top 20, RED by lucky mckee (well kinda) and the The Horseman (not the horsemen with dennis quaid), which are both completely amazing.

Just remembered something that I left off my ballot fuuuuuuuuuck

Thinking about a ballot, I remembered Mute Witness. Too late for evangelizing but it can at least get onto the lower end of my 50.

aaaaaallright, it's sent. horrible process. so much stuff i wanted to include but couldn't: living dead girl, ginger snaps, uzumaki, freaking dawn of the dead. sorry it's so last minute, eric, but at least i got it done. yay, me! now i'm looking forward to the results...

DONE

I'm sure I forgot something of vital importance, but I ended up with a solid list of 50 movies I really like, so I'm okay with it. I don't know if it's super MOR (probably) but I don't think anything on there will come as a surprise to anybody who knows me. Ultimately, I picked based almost entirely on gut - if I thought, "Holy shit I LOVE that movie!" about a movie, it went on the list. Top ten definitely in order, next ten or 15 sort of in order, everything after that was just free for all.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Sunday, 6 May 2012 22:14 (eleven years ago) link

Ultimately I never got around to watching most of the movies recommended here that looked great, but two I watched in preparation for this poll made it on the ballot so... success?

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Sunday, 6 May 2012 22:14 (eleven years ago) link

i think i'm done! holy crap that was arduous.

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Sunday, 6 May 2012 22:34 (eleven years ago) link

it's like a list of my 50 favorite movies (and i had to slash and burn about 20 after the initial whittling)
i didn't watch any extras because choosing from my existing favorites was plenty hard enough, i'll watch new ones later.

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Sunday, 6 May 2012 22:35 (eleven years ago) link

Between seeing people rep for it in this thread (some who just saw it for the first time thanks to the poll) and my first-place vote, I'm looking forward to seeing a movie that I hadn't even heard of a year ago get a decent position in the results.

You Don't Throw Oranges On An Escalator (Deric W. Haircare), Sunday, 6 May 2012 22:46 (eleven years ago) link

sent! finally..

fishermen are coveted by whores & stoners (Pillbox), Sunday, 6 May 2012 23:12 (eleven years ago) link

and i had to slash and burn about 20 after the initial whittling - oh man, whittling mine down from like the 75 point or so was just goddam EXCRUCIATING. Hardest list I've had to make for an ilx poll by a fair margin.

fishermen are coveted by whores & stoners (Pillbox), Sunday, 6 May 2012 23:24 (eleven years ago) link

Mine is going to be a last second entry. I'm finishing watching "Haxan" on Hulu tonight, and I want to rewatch a couple of other things too.

i love the large auns pictures! (Phil D.), Sunday, 6 May 2012 23:54 (eleven years ago) link

just sent mine in! wound up voting for 40 films, somehow forgetting Dawn Of The Dead until I was searching for 1 or 2 more to fill it out. goofy mix of old and new I'm not sure I'll be able to defend the order of in a month, but unlike the comedy list, I won't think i was foolish to leave anything out. weirdly wound up with at least three from 1978 in my top 10.

About a dozen new ballots came in over the weekend. Still a good distance away from my own personal goal 50-ballot benchmark.

#1 could still go to any one of about four or five different movies.

That aside ... a hearty thank you to everyone who has turned in a ballot so far!

jungleous butterflies strange birds (Eric H.), Monday, 7 May 2012 12:39 (eleven years ago) link

As long as the fringe horror nerds have made enough of an appearance to throw some monkeywrenches into the results with their weird and obscure horror movie choices, I'll be happy. The less these poll results look like boilerplate AFI lists, the better, imo.

You Don't Throw Oranges On An Escalator (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 7 May 2012 12:48 (eleven years ago) link

I can tell you there are some movies whose placements (so far) are surprisingly high; others even more surprisingly low. One or two movies in the current top 10 are somewhat surprising to me too. Didn't realize Jack Frost was so highly regarded.

jungleous butterflies strange birds (Eric H.), Monday, 7 May 2012 12:51 (eleven years ago) link

Well, despite Michael Keaton's voicework, it was a pretty horrifying creation.

i wish i'd had the time to get involved in the nominations process, putting together my ballot now and finding it hard to fill all 50 spot, will probably just have 30 or so

i thought maybe eric was referring to this timeless classic:

howdy doo

i realized that my ballot was totally stuffed with movies about women. i hope that let's scare jessica to death gets the respect it deserves. not that it's all that OBSCURE these days but it's not Halloween.

Speaking of ringtones, I half-saw an unfortunate amount of One Missed Call last night. Can anyone here confirm that it is, in fact, the worst mainstream horror movie of the last ten years?

Horror on Sorority Hill (or whatever it was called) was pretty bad. Also my personal worst is FEAR DOT COM. I can't believe I sat through that.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Monday, 7 May 2012 14:05 (eleven years ago) link

The cutoff is try to get it in by the time you go to bed tonight, whenever that is. I'll be closing polls officially tomorrow or Wednesday.

LL otm re: let's scare jessica

also wish I had done more pregame repping for lemora, a child's tale of the supernatural. reminiscent of valerie and her week of wonders, except replace the hippie-dippie surrealism with bava-does-southern-grotesque.

i'm sorry to report that lemora was among the last 5 i cut -- but it is SO GREAT
if you have an extra vote to give, consider donating it to jessica, valerie, or lemora. they all deserve it.

Also it's really a shame that more people haven't seen Demon Lover Diary (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0206681/) -- it's not technically horror (although it's about making a horror movie), but there's a real menacing vibe to it that would make it a horror movie if it weren't a documentary.

Sorority Row? i thought it was aight, in the way that shitty new mainstream horror flicks often carry on the spirit of old B-movie slasher flicks better than deliberate 'grindhouse' homages or whatever.

some dude, Monday, 7 May 2012 14:27 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, I just remember thinking it was lazy and uninspiring.

I am also bummed that I missed the chance to vote for Insidious, which I really liked in spite of the stupid ghostbusters comedy thread. I also forgot what it was called.

former personal denim advisor to the mayor, (La Lechera), Monday, 7 May 2012 14:33 (eleven years ago) link

pretty sure it was called insidious
