Norse Bar, eh? Is there a Norwegian aspect to it?

Not at all. I read an interview with the dudes who own it, and they admitted the name was basically arbitrary.

I'm interested in it b/c it's supposed to be a low-key neighborhoodie place that a) has moderately priced good beer and b) games of both the board and video variety.

Come on, Dan, let's get 'em

I'm genetically Orcadian/Norwegian so I feel comfortable joining R's pitchfork brigade.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Thursday, 3 May 2012 22:20 (eleven years ago) link

But I'd like to stop in for a few beers before we burn it down.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Thursday, 3 May 2012 22:20 (eleven years ago) link

I'm American, I will try all the bars.

Jeff, Thursday, 3 May 2012 22:24 (eleven years ago) link

I'll go anywhere within walking distance.

At dinner tonight I told R about Norse Bar and my assessment and she was more amiable to the concept than I had imagined. She liked the idea of little Norwegian flags put up everywhere ahead of time, though.

btw we went to Little Bucharest which was very good, if slightly slow/awkward service

It's hailing.

Courtney and I went there w/ a Groupon and it was good, but yeh, the service was odd. I can't remember all the details at the moment, but one thing that stood out was that the manager was manically attentive and amidst his words of thanks and goodwill, he said "I love you."

Pita Malört (Je55e), Friday, 4 May 2012 02:05 (eleven years ago) link

it was intense! super loud on the roof of the school.

argh it was hailing right against my west windows. yeah, intense.

JuliaA, Friday, 4 May 2012 02:12 (eleven years ago) link

It's too hot.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Friday, 4 May 2012 02:49 (eleven years ago) link

It was hailing so hard we couldn't hear the TV.

In case you missed it on FB, there was an incident tonight. While Courtney she was walking by the Walgreen's by her house, someone threw a travel coffee mug at her and hit her in the leg.

Pita Malört (Je55e), Friday, 4 May 2012 02:55 (eleven years ago) link

It hurt!

I have another youswoop for little Bucharest - I loved the food there but it was very slow. I want the owner to pour a shout in my mouth, like I read about on yelp, and then happened to k8e.

courtnoodle, Friday, 4 May 2012 03:16 (eleven years ago) link

Weird, Kr and I drove by Little Bucharest last night and she was like, "What do you know about that place?" And I said, "I know that it was apparently one of the worst Restaurant Clubs ever, but that was when it was a different location" -- I think it used to be on Ashland, by Art of Pizza -- "and from what I've heard, it's gotten better. But I also know they operate one of the summertime riverfront lunch spots, and I've been there, and it's not that great."

sockless in moccasins (jaymc), Friday, 4 May 2012 04:42 (eleven years ago) link

Why did someone throw a travel mug of coffee at you? Did you look sleepy?

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Friday, 4 May 2012 12:22 (eleven years ago) link

The Iceman Cometh at the Goodman got a rave in the NYT today, but I guess it's ending mid-June? Chance of extension?

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Friday, 4 May 2012 13:55 (eleven years ago) link

It's extended once already, might extend more. Also, Tracy Letts's translation of Three Sisters, with a zillion Steppenwolf ensemble members, will be up and running then.

And hey, I'm bringing An Interrogation Primer to the NY Fringe Festival in August.

caro's johnson (Eazy), Friday, 4 May 2012 14:14 (eleven years ago) link

Eazy, I will go, esp if you get an air-conditioned venue.

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Friday, 4 May 2012 14:21 (eleven years ago) link

Here's hoping it'll have a/c and not require climbing more than three flights of stairs.

caro's johnson (Eazy), Friday, 4 May 2012 14:28 (eleven years ago) link

congrats eazy!

anyone want to get lunch in the loop today? as incentive, here's a hilarious picture of chicago bears quarterback jay cutler:

I sent it to my coworker who is an avid Bears fan and her immediate response was, "Ha. Ass."

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Friday, 4 May 2012 14:50 (eleven years ago) link

i normally go at 1:30, but can probably go at 1 if that will work better. i don't have a location in mind.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 4 May 2012 14:50 (eleven years ago) link

tortoise was pretty fun the other night. they were very tortoise-y. dan bitney (who is apparently from madison) looks a lot like chris elliot, right?

40oz of tears (Jordan), Friday, 4 May 2012 14:51 (eleven years ago) link

I'll go if we go at 1 and you pick a place (because three different people are asking me to select three different places for a drink tonight, dinner Monday, and lunch in like two weeks and I feel burdened).

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Friday, 4 May 2012 14:51 (eleven years ago) link

ok i'll make sure i can go at 1 and think of a location. falafel sounds kinda good right this second but also it's only 10 a.m.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 4 May 2012 14:52 (eleven years ago) link

Thank you for lifting some of the burden from me, n/a. You are a true friend.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Friday, 4 May 2012 14:57 (eleven years ago) link

You guys go to lunch too early. I usually go at 11 or 11:30.

Jeff, Friday, 4 May 2012 14:58 (eleven years ago) link

I never go to lunch until like 1:15 or so because I like to be able to sit and read, so I want the lunch rush to die down a little.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 4 May 2012 15:00 (eleven years ago) link

i was originally forced into a 1:30 lunch but now i like it because i'm more productive before lunch and it makes the afternoon is nice and short

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 4 May 2012 15:02 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, me, too.

Speaking of my burdens, can anybody think of an interesting place to eat lunch that's Red Line accessible between Fullerton and Thorndale? That seems like it should be easy, but of course I'm blanking.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Friday, 4 May 2012 15:03 (eleven years ago) link

Wait that me too was to jvc. I am not more productive before lunch, as evidenced by my participation on ILX.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Friday, 4 May 2012 15:04 (eleven years ago) link

Aw, that's 77 so it didn't work. Still. You're weird, dude. Have lunch with me and nick and I'll pour borscht down your chest so it will make a nice contrast with the cool air.

Polly biscuit face (carl agatha), Friday, 4 May 2012 15:08 (eleven years ago) link

yes everyone should come have lunch with us at the place i haven't chosen yet

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 4 May 2012 15:10 (eleven years ago) link

let's all go and apply more pressure on n/a's unmade decision

anyone wants to come to The Nile in HP w/ me, I'll buy

Silky Slim (dan m), Friday, 4 May 2012 15:40 (eleven years ago) link

I eat lunch pretty late. Usually around 2. But I often have a piece of fruit around noon to tide me over.

sockless in moccasins (jaymc), Friday, 4 May 2012 15:43 (eleven years ago) link

Oh, and I probably can't join you guys today, but I'll go some other time for sure.

sockless in moccasins (jaymc), Friday, 4 May 2012 15:44 (eleven years ago) link

i love the mango/sticky rice dessert from thai pastry.
